Anthem has text to speech and speech to text, but not an actual in game chat. Ooh really? I can chit-chat all to my hearts desire. Good to know you represent the entire gaming community … oh right, you don't.

Puzzles require co-operation, and that requires a universal and reliable communication system. Like a chat. The game has chat, though I've never seen anyone actually use it on console. You can see people going to different parts of the puzzle, it's fine. Good to know you represent the entire gaming community … oh right, you don't. And when the game goes crossplay, how would PC 'chat' function across the entire community of players - oh right, it can't.

Good to know you represent the entire gaming community … oh right, you don't. At least I represent part of the actual player base though. And you are dismissing concerns from other parts of the playerbase in your desperate attempt to handwave away any and all criticisms. Over 50% of female gamers are harassed online after revealing their gender. What's a good way of revealing your gender online? Voice chat. If you have spent any time within the gaming community at all, there's a good chance you would notice anecdotally that female gamers a) voice chat less and b ) don't reveal their gender as much. Which is one of the many reasons voice chat only is shit.

That said the playerbase will learn the puzzles after a few trials and can most likely do it without chat in the end. Apart from that I don't see any group doing raid level content without voice chat. And getting into leaderboard territory will most likely demand that you coordinate with your team over voice chat.

Yep, desperate. And while voice chat is more efficient at solving puzzles, it is not the only way to solve puzzles and nor should it be. Also voice chat is often necessary for hard core content, of which maybe 1% of the game's population participates in, and they do so with static groups which are preformed and filled with people everybody trusts. Casual content, often pugged, has never required voice chat to complete and locking participation of puzzles behind that locks participation of those puzzles to a portion of the gaming community. Also blocking and reporting is often not enough, which you would know if you actually engaged with gamers outside of your buddies.

Quite a hilarious situation from an outside perspective. Did they test new stuff in TOR like this too with separate test servers and dummy characters?? Sounds dumb. Looks like they're still drowning in the mess... I would recommend people stop beta testing this game for Bioware! Beta testing or PTR has been around for years. Overwatch does these constantly with new maps and tweaks to characters.

I remember test servers on mmos, and many games on steam have beta patches you can install and help try out new content with. It’s not unusual to me.

Looks like they're still drowning in the mess... I would recommend people stop beta testing this game for Bioware! Beta testing or PTR has been around for years. Overwatch does these constantly with new maps and tweaks to characters. OK. I wouldn't know because I've never played such games. It just seems stupid to me to waste my time on buggy test servers instead of waiting for the release version that might actually be fun and where the time invested means progress in the actual game. I also don't get the appeal of Early Access. By the time the release version comes around I'd already be sick of the game. Playing a less good version of something seems pointless. Maybe I have less patience for beta testing stuff in my free time because I have to put up with broken unfinished games on a daily basis as part of my job thanks to global releases. The last thing I'm interested in is more of this annoying shit in my free time. So my comment was directed at people who aren't enjoying this buggy test server experience with dummy characters. Just don't play it. Wait for the final version.

Good to know you represent the entire gaming community … oh right, you don't. At least I represent part of the actual player base though.
Then, perhaps you can tell us if texting in a tense combat situation can be done. I cannot. Chatting is an answer, as long as the everyone speaks the same language. In ME3MP, I had the experience of entering co-op games where the others where speaking a foreign language. ... chat feature was of no use in this case.
This is where matchmaking can help provided there is a critical mass of players speaking the same lingo.
Oh, well ....

Lingua franca a language that is adopted as a common language between speakers whose native languages are different. HISTORICAL a mixture of Italian with French, Greek, Arabic, and Spanish, formerly used in the Levant. But what the hell is a "Levant"?????

At least I represent part of the actual player base though. Yea, at this point, probably about 50% of it.
... I'm just kidding, don't get mad at me.
Actually, I just wanted to come in and say that I skimmed this thread and while I find all the bickering rather hilarious, I couldn't find anyone actually answering the OP. Is anyone here actually on the test servers and if so, what's the current impression? I'd actually be interested to hear about it.

Like i've said before It's me and that other player that seems to have thousands of different pilots and call signs. The other one manages at most times play three different pilots all at the same time! Impressive!

There are some Youtube videos from people that have played and commented on the cataclysm stuff. Might give you some better impressions as you have audio and video to go along with the opinion of the player. Personally I haven't played it, the actual game is still beta enough for my liking
