I'm gonna be honest, I would have preferred if the sequel to DAO was something like this game, more in line with traditional RPGs. I love Mass Effect, ME2 is my favorite game ever but I never liked that DA got Mass Effectified. The traditional RPG formula works better for medieval fantasy IMHO. Last but not least, Shadowheart is a total smokeshow. My main interest in this game, apart from the aforementioned more traditional RPG style, is... her. Yeah Shadowheart is a cutie I am currently romancing her in my current playthrough. Gonna take her down the path of light.

That's one thing I've never done--had her become a Dark Justiciar. I don't ever plan on it either. I think her storyline isn't too dissimilar to DUrge's so I think they make a good pair. I did one run with her where I did an experiment. I killed her on the beach, stored her body and planned on reviving her after the Shar Gauntlet to see what would happen, but she revived herself in a cutscene. I guess it was to see what would happen if our character had no knowledge of her Shar worship or the trials being important to her. She actually joined the party and went on as normal for a while. The game acted as if she had done the trials and made the "good" decision. I had a conversation with her about the artefact, offered to give it back to her, etc. Then at one point the reality kicked in and she left because we didn't do the gauntlet with her. I played a little bit last night. I had Minsc throw some of the remaining Bhaal cultists into the chasm. I figured that's something he'd enjoy doing. Or I certainly enjoyed it at least. Some of the cultists were happy Orin was gone and that's all they said, but others called DUrge a traitor and all that stuff, so those ones got yeeted into the chasm. Astarion's clown paint hadn't washed off so I figured it'd be a good time to head to Cazador's. That, and I also had Hero's Feast active from Orin's duel and having it active is pretty much a given for Cazador's fight. I did the cheesy thing and left Astarion at the top of the stairs when I started the fight. I had Shadowheart cast daylight on DUrge's bow and Minsc's weapon, which was the Hamarhraft. I didn't really have another decent weapon to give him at the time I recruited him. I'll get one later. But I activated the thunder effect and had him jump into the fray with his Daylighted Hamarhraft and he smacked the crap out of Cazador. Shadowheart has the Blood of Lathander, so I had her run in with that and her Spirit Guardians. DUrge used some undead arrows on Cazador and some flourishes. Cazador had a very sad time. After he was down, I sent Astarion in. I focused on getting rid of the skeleton mage because he's a pain in the ass then got rid of the werewolves and ghouls. Astarion had his very dramatic moment with his clown paint on. I felt a little bad for that but it was pretty funny. I had him stay as a spawn. I think I might have him ascend if I play him as an origin some day, but as of now, that's also one thing I haven't done. But I figure if I'm playing as him, then there won't be anyone to "nudge" him in the right direction. Rhapsody is a great weapon for DUrge so I swapped that out for her offhand weapon. I had something else for the offhand until I killed Orin, then equipped that for the offhand, but Rhapsody is better. Or I think it is. I think I need to put someone in Orin's meat dress, who will it be? Maybe I'll put it on Halsin because it's for Shapeshifters isn't it?

This time I really found the Creche in the Monastery. it took a long while to figure out how to get into the building. I had to kill my two new eagle bff's to get one of the ceremonial weapons to complete a puzzle. Finally made it to the basement had Lae'zel convince one of the guards to let us pass. Saw a portrait of Vlaakith I think I remember reading somewhere she was a lich queen. Anyway she looks kind of undead. I'm eager to find out more about why the Githyanki are so hostile I know they were enslaved by the Ilithid's. but sheesh they need to work on some people skills. Now I have to find their healer.

I love Mass Effect, ME2 is my favorite game ever but I never liked that DA got Mass Effectified. The traditional RPG formula works better for medieval fantasy IMHO. First ME2 is my favorite as well in terms of squadmates and their stories. 2nd I don't think Larian had ever anticipated how big BG3 would become. I mean I've watched 1 minute clips of attractive women playing and enjoying BG3. I bring up the attractive women because historically these type of games have been niche with a small fan base compared to bigger mainstream titles, and traditionally those who have played those niche games are nerdy guys. Not saying there weren't any nerdy girl players just at the time there weren't the focus. I think this is the same thinking BioWare had after Dragon Age 2. Even in DA2 the action was more more fast paced than DAO. I too prefer the more traditional rpg style, and agree it suits the classic medieval fantasy rpgs than modern/scifi. But anyway we live in interesting times and gaming is far more mainstream now than it was in 80's, 90's, and early 2000's.

Looks like Halsin doesn't like the meat dress. Well, that's too bad--it's staying on! I hadn't gone to Devil's Fee yet so I went over to talk to Helsik. I managed to pickpocket the bag and book from her without aggroing her and all the gold demons, or whatever they are. I know I can just promise to get the gloves for her and just never give them to her but I hate things being left open in my quest log, ha ha. You used to be able to buy the gloves back from her, which was what I always did before but now you can only get them if you steal them back from her which is kind of silly. If you try to keep your word and give them to her, you miss out on a useful item. Seemed fair to give them to her and buy them back before. I'm not sure why it's changed. So now I just don't make any promises and steal the bag of ritual items from her. I did some other stuff here and there and took a long rest so I don't get a backlog of camp scenes. I was waiting on Wyll's, so I could start doing his questline. I had him break his contract, but I plan on saving the Duke. A big middle finger to Mizora. After I long rested, I went back to Rivington to turn in all the clown parts and stock up on face paint. The mummy only sells 4 at a time so I guess this will be the last time I get clown paint, as the circus leaves once the Dribbles quest is completed. I decided to fight Sarevok after. I got him down to something like 29 health (between the party) on the first round. Astarion dealt a massive amount of damage to him. I countered the healing ghost, but he still got hasted by the other ghost. But he only had 29 HP left and he'd be dead before he got to take his next turn anyway. Now Minsc has a better sword and helmet than what he had. The armor isn't as good as Ketheric's and that's what he's wearing. It will be useful to Minthara or Lae'zel, now that I have her back. I started some of the Steel Foundry stuff, just basically went in and spoke to the Gondians and got the ball rolling. And assembled the Hellfire Crossbow. I still have Shadowheart's quest to wrap up but I think I'll pick a fight in the Waterqueen's house first. I'm in that neck of the woods anyway.

Absolutely do it. Evil durge and dark SH are amazing in a really fucked up way! Highly recommend! Seriously, you gotta see both paths for her, so different and so worth it. Astarion was a letdown in this respect. But man, SH is night and day, literally. Most interesting companion.

I find Shadowheart intriguing as a good but conflicted person. But I am the type of person that wants to see everything. I was planning if I do an evil run to romance Minthara cause I love a bad girl lol. I have played evil characters before like in the original KOTOR. I had no problem being darkside until my character had to deal with Mission. What happened to Mission completely killed my darkside run. Then again there are other games I have played like The legacy of Kain series where I have no problem being evil.

I was planning if I do an evil run to romance Minthara cause I love a bad girl lol. I think Minthara is better if you play a good character but I haven't done that yet so I cannot really tell. Just going by her background I think it would be really sweet. Regular cunning evil sort of person would work too, I suppose. I can tell you that she's not too happy with unhinged durge. How approval and romance is handled though can be a bit immersion breaking. Once they adore you it doesn't matter if you piss them off a lot they'll still love you. And Minthara has an especially strong case of protagonist worship. So even though she disliked a lot of the things my durge did she was still awe struck.

I've never recruited Minthara although I intend to in my next playthrough using the knockout method. I never thought about romancing her as a good character but like they say opposites attract. I have seen enough of her clips on youtube to gauge she does not like Gale that much. So I was thinking of playing as Gale in my next playthrough and romancing just to see how it goes.

Ran into a moral dilemma yesterday I had to choose to accept Vlaakith's will or commit Githyanki genocide. To see how things would progress I accepted to enter the prism and kill the guardian. I did not actually kill her I wanted to just find out why Vlaakith feared the guardian. So we spoke for awhile and then I left the guardian alive and convinced Lae'zel that no matter what action I took. The result would be the same. Our party beheaded on return. Back in the Material Plane we killed almost everyone in the Creche and recovered an abandoned Gityanki egg. Oh and yeah that whole thing about the Gith purification process proved to be a bust. Though I did like how quirky the Gith doc looked. Later tonight I will return to the Cursed Shadowlands and wrap up the main quest there.

I forgot to mention don't know if anyone here remembers but about 1 or 2 weeks ago I mentioned my Paladin broke his Oath, but did not accept the dark powers offered by the demon and chose to regain his vow? I have not regained my vow so far but I am disappointed that according to the demon since I did not accept the dark powers and am no longer the Paladin I was that I would be in a state of limbo, but disappointingly there are no gameplay repercussions. I can continue to divinely smite my way through hordes, and still remain as a beacon of light even if I have broken my vow.

The Water Queen's temple washed my clown paint off! I started a fight there and cleared that out, then went back to the Counting House to finish that off, then I went down into the basement of the Elfsong and fought the Gith. I picked some random fights with guards (stole a half a melon and a cabbage) Even though I didn't need to long rest I took one anyway so I didn't have a backlog of camp scenes. I got Vlaakith, then the Emperor's (Yuck) that night. I know I can avoid that scene altogether just by not going into his old hideout but I'm running out of random things to fight now. I'm getting closer to the end of the game. We headed to the House of Grief the next day. I remembered when I was in the Steel Watch Foundry there was a Steel Watcher helmet that gives immunity to blindness and thought that would be pretty handy to have for this fight. There's also that ring you find in Act 2 that says you can't be blinded. Minsc wore the helmet because he'd be the one going in to smack some Sharrans around. I put the ring on DUrge. Shadowheart and Gale brought the stormy weather. This was a very good place to use the Arrows Of Many Targets. This fight took a little less time than usual thanks to those arrows. I usually hoard those like a dragon for some reason. I will be needing them again for Raphael's cambions, but I've still got plenty. I think Viconia fell on her ass every round. She bugged out after the fight was over. She was dead, not knocked out. When the fight was over she was "alive" and started talking to Minsc as if Shadowheart wasn't there. It said something like she was trying to probe his thoughts as to why they were there. I guess he was the nearest one to her carcass. When I chose "attack" she just dropped dead again. There was no fight. I went over to loot her and the cutscene with Shadowheart played like it does when she has 1HP left. I'm like "How many times do I have to kill her before she stays dead?" But that conversation didn't go like it normally does either. Instead of asking Viconia where her parents were, she told DUrge to deal with it because she was going to find them. So I chose to kill her once again. Usually there is some back and forth between the player and Shadowheart as to what to do with Viconia and this time she was like "Nah, I'm done with her, do what you want". She chose to save her parents and then we went to the Mirror Of Loss. Or The Mirror Of Losing All Your Inspiration Points. I came prepared for this too. I had the Mage's Friend ring and the Warped Headband. I managed to get a boost. I chose Charisma for DUrge, but I probably should have went with more Dex. I didn't get an extra memory option. Next was Gale's turn. He did actually get the bonus +1 to Charisma from the Stelmane memory, which was useless to him. But a +1 would have been useless to DUrge too. Her stats are even. But Gale got the +1 to Charisma and he got a +2 to INT. That check was a breeze for him. I put the Mage's Friend ring on him but he also had the advantage of Bardic Inspiration. He didn't fail any rolls. But my luck ran out after that because everyone else is a thicko and has low intelligence. But I was happy with that. Getting any sort of a boon from that mirror is good. Unless it's a +1 to an even stat. All I really have left now is Raphael, Ansur, Iron Throne, and Gortash. I don't have any side quests or anything else left to do but the big things. It's going to be tough from here on out. I always get a bit sad when I'm near the end of the game. It feels like you have tons and tons of stuff to do and then suddenly it's all over. Another character to retire. I must say this one has been pretty fun. It will still be some days before I finish up but I only have a handful of things left I can do now. It's not like launching the game and thinking, "What trouble can I cause today?"

So I convinced Shadowheart not to kill Aylin the Nightsong. She looked so magnificent in her armors and with her wings stretched. She flew over to Moonrise and killed everyone ion the front, but not conveniently Z'rell and her guards on the main floor. I killed them all and stopped playing at that moment. I will continue tonight and hopefully finally move on to act 3. Kappa Neko I found this clip of Gale giving Minthara a hug and she let him without killing him. Now I am definitely going to romance her as Gale.

Aww, that was kind of sweet!
I agree, the Nightsong scene is great. It really gets you when you see it for the first time.
I just killed Ansur and it went well. I brought Wyll this time. I know it's part of his questline but I've never actually brought him to this battle before and I really liked the extra dialog at the end. I started the fight a little unsure how I was going to do it, beyond making sure I had special arrows, some form of lightning resistance, and Globe of Invulnerability scrolls. I didn't bother with the puzzles, you can cheat and skip right to the main event. Just mess up the lanceboard puzzle and run down the stairs when the undead spawn. Your party comments about cheating to get there. Gale has a little rhyme, even.
I can either do the Iron Throne or Raphael next. I suppose I should do Raphael next so I can get a bit of use out of his gear before the end of the game. I think I should have fought him earlier on for the gear, but I was working my way up from easier bosses to the tougher ones.

I never thought about romancing her as a good character but like they say opposites attract. IMvHO, Minthara is leaning towards lawful evil after the redemption rescue, which is most certainly less evil than, for example, Aatarion who is a vampire no matter how the game would like to twist and turn that. Moreover, Minthara seems to be the closest to true lawful of all companions. So, technically speaking, this does not clearly classify her as a complete opposite of "good character", which I bet has no issues battling alongside Astarion through the whole ordeal. In Act 1 she is not herself being directly controlled through the tadpole, so she cannot be assigned any alignment of her own IMO. Even her evil is very flavorful more directed into the Menzobarranzan house infighting customs and power grabbing, and she seems certainly less blood- and torture-hungry than Lae'zel or Shadow Heart. It is my own subjective impression of course, and quite possible that BG3 authors had a different view on the subject while writing and acting her.

No, you're right she is lawful evil and not some mindless killer like from what my understanding of what the Dark Urge character is. I know she did not choose to be born into Drow society and I know she was being controlled by the Absolute. I have not recruited her but I've seen enough short clips to understand her character. From the small clips I've seen of some of her interactions she seems intelligent and insightful. She has some funny moments and not the kick the puppy type. I know she is not a young woman and has been around for 1-200 years. I know she lusts after power and prefers to take over the cult of the Absolute than destroy it. I know she encourages the player to take advantage of any power they come across. She is a victim of to evil gods that like she says rewards their followers with death. Now she wants to be the master of her fate. Astarion is a vampire whether he is just a spawn or ascended he is still a vampire. A predator. I am playing a paladin but I choose not to kill him when he attempted to bite me. I told him he could not bite me and we left at that. He has not brought it up since.

Aww, that was kind of sweet! I agree, the Nightsong scene is great. It really gets you when you see it for the first time. Yeah I enjoyed that whole part of Shadowheart's story as well. Takes me back to my KOTOR days and being a Jedi. I tried to save as many as I can even Darth Malak.

I found this clip of Gale giving Minthara a hug and she let him without killing him. Now I am definitely going to romance her as Gale. Awww that is adorable!

I can cross Raphael off the list now. I always get anxious before this fight. I think his cambions were bugged out. I've only done this fight once on HM before and I don't recall seeing this happen in that fight, nor do I recall seeing it in any video. Some of the cambions went invisible and stayed that way even after Raphael was dead. It was a little annoying and frustrating. I could target them, but couldn't see them. I casted See Invisibility and it did nothing. There were about 3 or 4 like that. Yurgir rooted some out for me, so he was useful for once. I do wish he'd stop blasting us out of the Globe Of Invulnerability though. I persuaded him to join our side but I find sometimes he's more of a hindrance than a help but he did help (for the most part) this time. I will have him as an ally for the final battle.
I just have no idea if the cambions are meant to do that or if it was a bug. I had the Globe of Invulnerability up and these ones were in/around it so maybe something glitched out?

Another day, another fight! I thought I had some other kind of a weird glitch. I didn't need to long rest after Raphael because I had used Hope's Divine Intervention towards the end of the battle. Nobody was downed or badly injured but it restored abilities and spell slots. Because of that, I went to the Iron Throne after leaving the House Of Hope. I thought I only lost two Gondians but it turned out I only saved 7. I did save the "important" NPCs, like Toobin's daughter, Omellum, and the Duke. But I did open all the cells, but I saw at least two Gondians get ensared and shot, so I'm guessing that's what happened to the others. One of these days I'll save them all. I get nervous for that quest too because it's timed. I can get the party where they need to go easily enough but it's wrangling those Gondians back in one piece that gets me. After finishing that I went to camp to speak to Wyll and his father. My next stop was going to be the Foundry and I wanted to pick up my Flashblinders. Minthara was holding those and the bomb but there was no way to access the party members' inventories. I mean you could do it the old way by asking them to join and then swapping them out, but the traveler's chest was the only thing I could access. I also couldn't access the traveler's chest if I was on another party member other than DUrge. I thought "Well this is weird" I thought maybe it would sort itself out by traveling regions or long resting and thought maybe the Duke being at it somehow made the camp inventories inaccessible. I put that on hold for a bit and checked my old save files, like before this feature was even introduced and it showed up on those. Then I decided I might as well use one of these old saves and kill the dominated dragon and get my achievement. I went to my very first save file (Evil Bard DUrge). I can't believe how horribly equipped my party was but that was my first game and it was on Explorer. The builds, the equipment, or lack thereof, the spells I picked, it was awful! I had no clue what I was doing. I will go back to that save when patch 9 comes out and if I can fix whatever hot mess of a party I had, I will. I did go back to it when we got the epilogue scenes but I only fought the brain. I didn't go to the save before that until tonight, which was climbing the brain stem and starting the final battle. I just wanted to fight the dragon and pop the achievement but I don't think I could have worked with what I had. I was like the anti-hoarder or something. I had like, no arrows, no scrolls. What was I doing? So I went to the save I played after that where I was a wizard and got the achievement, yay! But yeah, I checked old saves and none of them had any problems with camp inventories, even the older ones. So either it was a temporary bug or my save was bugging out. I proceeded to the Foundry. The Titan isn't so bad if you bring some Flashblinders to the party. I had 5 flashblinders and a bunch of construct arrows. I did need a long rest after that and my party members' inventories showed up once again. So it might have had something to do with the Duke arriving at camp. I took a break after that and went for Gortash he was knocked prone for a lot of it. Poor guy. The Hand of Bane is no use when you're on your back. I don't go into the room for that fight. Well, I do, but just to start the fight and lure them all outside. With nothing left to do, I headed for the Morphic Pool. When it came time for the big roll, I rolled two nat 1s and I was like "Yeah I feel like my entire life is a Nat 1, so stop reminding me, ok?" But the third roll was a nat 20. I couldn't believe it! She's finishing the game in her underwear. This started in House Of Hope, when you wear the disguise. Once the fighting starts, you put your armor back on but your camp outfits have been removed. I've been keeping her armor hidden because I think it's ugly. I figured I'd just let her stay in her underwear for the remainder of the game. They'll never hear her sneaking up on them now! She might get a nasty wedgie while hiding in the shadows, however. I got as far as the courtyard battle because it took forever. I will finish this save next time I play. I might start a Gale save when this is over for a change of pace.

Haven't played for the past two days, but I did get to fight Ketheric before he ran away. Went underneath Moonrise and fought some enemies on the Nautiloid. Now my party is close to being killed off and I hope to find one of those healing station things. Lastly I almost entered the point of no return but I was reminded of the devil that Mizora said was imprisoned I have to find it.

There is a restoration pod in the area. It's next to the lift you take down to fight Ketheric. I finished my Bhaard save. I was a bit scared at first because I couldn't interact with the brain stem to enter the final battle. I kept hearing that it wasn't working and I thought I was stuck. Turns out a couple of stray gobbos jumped Orpheus at some point and he was stuck in battle back in the courtyard. I didn't notice it because I had all those summons and his portrait was squished up alongside the others. Once that was dealt with, we were able to proceed. I think that the Nat 20 I rolled only took 60 HP off the the final boss. I thought it was 100? Oh well. The fight went fine. Now Murder Bhaallad gets to live in retirement. A little while later I started my Gale save. It's a nice change of pace not failing INT rolls for once. I Tara. I picked Shadowheart up on the beach and did a partial rest and Tara appeared at camp. Shadowheart asked what happened to the magical item he had and it felt nice to be vague right back at her. I did the same to Astarion. I picked him up and I saw there was the option to just say your name, without offering anything extra. Two can play that game, mate. I am sort of role playing as Gale, trying to make the choices he would be ok with. I tried to peacefully rescue Lae'zel but I'm so used to passing charisma checks and Gale isn't so gifted in that department. I failed the persuasion check and then I ended up being forced to fight the tieflings. He tried though. Do those tieflings count for the achievement? I am going to make an effort to get that one this time, the one for saving all the tiefling refugees. If they count, then I've already failed but I did try to resolve it without a fight. We went into the crypt and yet again, Gale failed any sort of persuasion checks and I had to fight them all, inside and out. I think I'm just unlucky this time. Well, not entirely, I did get the Everburn sword from the Nautiloid. The Command:Drop actually worked! That's something that almost never happens for me. But as far as being to BS my way in and out of situations as Gale, not so good. I got pretty beat up fighting the looters. I had to retreat. Because I wasn't able to trick the one at the door to let me in, they were all waiting for me inside. I could still sneak in but they were all in position to attack, closer to the door. I took a long rest and Astarion sneaked off into the night already. I finished up the crypt, got Withers and took another long rest before heading over to the Grove. Astarion tried to bite Gale on only the second long rest after being recruited. Before we saw an evidence, like the drained boar. But maybe there's a reason that scene comes faster when you're Gale, because Astarion can't drink Gale's blood. It was pretty damn funny, I'll admit. Speaking of achievements, I've never saved Sazza before and I was going to attempt to do this too because I read that if you encourage the tiefling to kill Sazza, she ends up dead and she's one of the ones that has to be saved. So I stepped in and talked her out of killing Sazza but it looks like rescuing Sazza will result in the Grove being raided? So if that's the case, she can stay in her cell. I'm still in the Grove, picking up all the quests and all that stuff. That's where I left off.

There is a restoration pod in the area. It's next to the lift you take down to fight Ketheric. Is that the door that gives the warning about freeing the devil Mizora wanted freed before moving on? Did you find the "brain puzzle"? It requires you to connect pathways in three dimensions. If I recall correctly, that puzzle is in the back of the room with the healing station. Likewise, the device that allows you to converse with the collected minds (brains in jars) is in another corner of the same room. You can use that station as often as you wish, too. I go nova on everything and refresh after every fight. It's very unfair to the opposition, no doubt. Finvola, I've read that those two tieflings do not count toward the trophy. Sazza will definitely run her mouth and trigger the Grove assault if she's saved. It's the main reason I've yet to get that trophy. Plus, she reminds me of a friend's ex-wife whom I don't much like. Little gremlin. 😆 My health has been poor, so it's been over a week since I last played. Gale and crew are at Last Light, preparing to begin a thorough exploration of the shadow curse. I might steal that +2 short sword from Dammon before fast-traveling closer to the river crossing. I don't know if I'll get to play tomorrow, but I hope to resume soon. I'm really enjoying Gale's run already, and huge story beats lie ahead. It's extra motivation that I'd probably lack if playing a Tav. As Finvola says, it's great to crush every Intelligence check that arises. My Gale only has Charisma 10, but he's trained in Persuasion and has rolled well to this point during social encounters. I know that luck will eventually run dry. I always have Wyll around, though, and can sometimes choose to let him be our voice.
