Steam page has been updated and system reqs So....the same recommended specs as RDR2...? I know, early access, but...wow. They haven't optimized anything yet, Swen mentioned it. It's probably full of debugging codes and things that gather analytics as well.

Apparently while the custom characters have dialogue relating to race and class, the backgrounds might just have system/mechanical effects rather dialogue effects because they ran into problems giving them dialogue eg. It's hard to give you folk hero dialogue if they can't specify/don't know why the character is a folk hero.
I imagine that that might be tricky with the Noble background too, it's hard to demand entry to a place due to your nobility if you can't say what Noble family to you belong to. Might be easier with some of the others though, like sailor.

I don't know. I feel DOS2 is a good game - but in the end it was too long. I made it into the library or wossname on the third map and at that point I had the feeling of not getting anywhere. The story went very slowly on and I went from fight to fight which take really long and often I had to redo large sections.
It didnt help neither that I probably restarted a dozen times over until I was confident with my character choice. Bloating up the combat further doesn't really make it appeal more. I did like the combat - it was just a bit too much.
Maybe it was not the combat alone, I mean overall I just couldnt do it anymore. The huge inventory. The myriad of crafting items. Recipes. The frequent gear updating because the scaling affords it.
The combat in fact was fun - the constant busywork not so much.

Well, the restarting thing shouldn't happen in a D&D game, right?
Anyone else find it weird that all of the announced characters rightfully ought to be medium to high level based on their pasts? OTOH, we do have to put up with this sort of thing a lot in CRPGs.

Anyone else find it weird that all of the announced characters rightfully ought to be medium to high level based on their pasts? OTOH, we do have to put up with this sort of thing a lot in CRPGs. They sound like normal 5e PCs to me. In 5e, your character is already established in some way before taking up adventuring via the background selection. Despite their past, they will start as level 1 adventurer like everyone else. You're supposed to talk with your DM about it so they can include related content for your character as well. It's not just rolling a level 1 fighter and making up a story as you go. For example, Wyll is a folk hero Warlock with a Fiend pact. That's all character creation stuff. It was also decided at character creation that Wyll was going to try to get free from his pact so the DM will have to include content that will lead to that over the sessions.

The Player's Handbook does stress that even a Level 1 adventurer is among the best of the best. It's the only way your character having any kind of past makes sense, even if the idea of a Lvl 1 Folk Hero sounds rather absurd.

I'm here to ask the big questions: Are Druids still going to suck? O.o With how broken Insect Plague/Creeping Doom is, the last thing I would say that druids suck. Also, Totemic Druid is probably the easiest class to play on Legacy of Bhaal until ToB.

Also, Totemic Druid is probably the easiest class to play on Legacy of Bhaal until ToB. I've never heard of a Totemic Druid. I suspect you might be referring to a later edition than I played (in the original, several of the Druid's skills were bugged and didn't work properly.)

My only experience with this company so far has been with divinity original sin 1. Which so far feels slower and less story driven that Baldurs gate. Is Baldurs gate in good hands with this company or should I be worried?

Although, I find it strange that you say Divinity Original Sin is less story driven then Baldur's Gate when both BG games let you roam around doing "hundred" of side quests to the point you basically stumble on the main quests while the Original Sin games are quite linear going from zone to zone along with the story.

Maybe thats the case for the vanilla BG1 but siege of dragon spear and from what I have played of BG2 the game is far more focused on the primary story. I like DOS and I hear the sequel is even better but I've found the main story to be a bit weak.

New Swenterview
Big take from it: - The companions in the EA are the Evil/Neutral ones as they want testers to try something else than the goody-two-shoes path as people normally do. - Level cap will be somewhere between 10 and 20 (exclusive on both side), most probably still lower teens (because it gets OP in the later teens) - CRs is being tweaked as to have more enemies variety (not sure how I feel about it, as the pnp CR has year of playtesting) - The Narrator (Amelia Tyler) is written as the Dungeon Master - Respeccing not in when Early Access start, will be in later - Some Reactions when EA release, more add over time - You can stack Inspiration Points - $59.99 - Everyone speak Common

I like DOS and I hear the sequel is even better but I've found the main story to be a bit weak. I would have to say that I'm far happier that BG3 is in the hands of Larian than Beamdog though. SoD had obnoxious characters (seriously, fck Corwin), IIRC they made Edwin a moron, the interesting twist with the antagonist got chucked out of the window near the end and nothing came of it, the decision to cram Irenicus in there felt forced, the all around tone is inconsistent and the challange boils down to shoving hundreds of enemies at the same time at the player. It felt like a badly written fan fiction. I wouldn't want them to get anywhere close to BG3.

I'm cautiously optimistic - I trust Larian well enough from having played Divinity I and II to not worry about gameplay or graphics and the like. My main questions are more storyline based. Since this is being touted as a direct continuation of the Bhaalspawn story, I'm curious how in the Nine Hells are they going to tie this to the original two games? I realize that such answers can't be given currently, but if the game is decent enough from a story perspective (which, again, I've seen enough from Larian to not worry about that) I'm sure it'll be fine.

The trailer and what I have seen of the game look great. I probably won't get early access because I prefer to play the game when it is complete, but I am looking forward to getting it when it comes out! If you do end up getting early access, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on it.

I'm definitely participating on the early access. It's just too close to the heart to pass. I'd rather find out now that the game sucks than to wait another 6-12 months building anticipation

I'm going to get it too, not sure how much I'm going to play it as I don't want to burn out before the game released. That has happened to me with previous early access games. I'm impressed enough with what Larian's shown and what they say their plans are to be willing to give Early Access a shot. How are the rest of you feeling? I'm cautiously optimistic - I trust Larian well enough from having played Divinity I and II to not worry about gameplay or graphics and the like. My main questions are more storyline based. The plot is related to the Dead Three (Bhaal, Myrkul and Bane) set around Baldur's Gate. And it's not like BG1 and BG2 plot are tied together that much outside the PC's heritage...which is being one of Bhaal's children. The whole Bhaal's prophecy thing came to conclusion in a pnp module, so don't expect any of the playable character to be one too. I see BG3 as the start of something new tied to Bhaal and his friends around Baldur's Gate city. Also, it might deal with the Great BG2 Conspiracy.

Baldur's Gate III: the horror game. I learned how intellect devourers are made and it's gross... The owlbear looks amazing. --- Early access content - up to level 4 - there is a Bulette in the ea (aka the hardest enemy). - 5 companions (the ones we already know) - at the start of ea, we will only be able to play custom characters if I understood Swen correctly. - Act 1 of the game: 80 possible combat encounters, 586 NPCs, 146 spells/abilities and 45k lines of dialogues*. *You won't see all of them as some are skill/spell specific like animal handling and speak with the dead. Coming September 30th. Bulette is Berlin slang word for meatballs.

Game's looking good, my most anticipated RPG at the moment in light of Larian's track record, but I'm extremely averse to playing "unfinished" games and so I'll wait for the full release. Probably will have more room in my budget for it next year as well. Still, I'm looking forward to y'all sharing what you think.
