IMO, having a Bhaal spawn, however rehabilitated and turned to the heroic good side (Abdel Adrian), as a Grand Duke turned out to be not exactly the best idea. So, maybe it makes sense from this angle.
According to Word of Greenwood, this was actually Bhaal's plan all along. He wanted his return to be on a prominent stage, so he influenced Adrian to become a Grand Duke. Showmanship, I guess. Yes, this means that Adrian was not really in control of his own actions in the decades preceding Murder in Baldur's Gate. Whatever. It has no implications for any of our BG1-2 PCs, who had to have come from some parallel universe.

Might be in the grove? I know which book you're talking about, there's volume 1, 2, 3, etc. I think there is one near Withers but it's a book of Gods from A-Z, so I think Bhaal's in volume 2. I know those books are scattered around the Grove. Ha, my Gale is mostly good but sometimes he has a momentary lapse of judgement. Being told off by Tara was enough to set him back on the right path. I wasn't sure if I'd have Minthara this time or not because I screwed it up in the Goblin camp. She wasn't temporarily hostile when I knocked her out. The goblins had turned hostile on me but I knocked her out anyway. I think it she was temporarily hostile at the time I started the fight but the camp had turned hostile on me at some point during it so I wasn't sure if she'd be at Moonrise or not and she was. I made her a Sorcadin this time, something I've never tried. I haven't spent much time with her because I wanted to go back to Moonrise to uh, take out the trash. I think I killed everything I could. Ketheric's going to be there all on his lonesome. I had her in the party for the second part of Halsin's questline with Oliver, but I swapped her out when I returned to Moonrise to clear it out, then went on to Shar's Gauntlet. I think I will bring Minthara to fight Ketheric. Act 2 really went by quick somehow. I didn't skip anything either. I finished Shar's Gauntlet and freed the Nightsong. I don't know what I did differently this time but I have always had good approval with Shadowheart in my playthroughs and always choose not to interfere and let her decide for herself. Well, this time she asked ME what she should do. She made a few comments earlier on that seemed like she was starting to have doubts about Shar before we got there and that was new to me. That's where I left off. All that's left to do now is fight Ketheric.

I just remembered in one of past failed playthroughs I found a book that had the names of gods and goddesses who had passed and were resurrected. I guess Bhaal's name was in that book. I never found the book again and I don't know where it was located. I thought it was in the same area where we meet Withers but I never found it there either. There is a book in Withers' Place called Book of Dead Gods in a side room from the main chamber where you fight the skeletons. There are like three coffins in the room and the book is in a nook on the wall. It has a cutscene where you can make a religion check that it's names of gods that have passed and been restored but the last three are unreadable. Bhaal is never mentioned but always felt like it was hinting at the dynamic trio. Could that be the book?

I had passed the skill check and remember it mentioning gods that were dead and had been restored. Thank you for reminding me where it was. I had a feeling it was near Withers.

There is some hidden counter for SH Nightsong points that changes the dialog options. These are different from the general approval counter. The points are based on reminder encounters and some actions. It is not complex or anything of a sort and should normally come naturally. However, if some things are missed, it may have an effect.

Hmm, I must have done things differently or accidentally this time? I can't remember which order things happened in this save, but that video was pretty interesting. Hopefully she will be fixed in patch 9 so more people can see the dialog if it is meant to trigger and just doesn't due to the code bugging out.

I've been wondering does Jaheira have the same VA from the original games? I remember they didn't have as much voiced dialogue as the third game, but I do remember when we first meet her at The Friendly Arm Inn in BG1, and could swear she has the same voice now as back then. I know I know it's 2024 I can just do a quick google search, but I want to participate in the thread by posting a question in the thread and receiving an answer some time later like in the old days during the internet's beginnings.

Hopefully she will be fixed in patch 9 so more people can see the dialog if it is meant to trigger and just doesn't due to the code bugging out. I am not sure it needs fixing. It seems rather working as intended IMO. Larian likes to hide things fairly deep underneath, probably for replayability. Apparently, judging by the result, I maxed the score without knowing it exists on the very first try with no effort and playing completely unspoiled. I think romancing SH, paying attention at least occasionally, and exploring every nook and cranny helped.
IIRC, I had to replay Pathfinder Kingmaker three times to eventually be able to follow a guide (!) for a secret ending for romancing Nyrissa. The instructions were quite convoluted written for earlier patches, and the quest and hidden score paths have been patched twice since that guide was posted before the very final version that I actually played. Thus, there were considerable differences. Moreover, the secret ending is available only for a specific alignment, which had to be maintained consistently through the whole game starting from the very beginning up to the very end. No way I would be able to do it on my own, although on a hindsight it seems logical and is actually pretty satisfying. In this department, looks like Owlcat guys have been able to surpass Larian.
I think, Larian had to somehow at least try to limit the number of perturbations, which are already so many that nobody even tries to count, while maintaining the focus on getting the final result of a quest/plot arc independently of the path of getting there, which in this case is achieved by this hidden score. Otherwise, we talking about several hundred ramifications for this little but important episode.
I would rather they fix the second camp chest, which I was consistently getting in act 3 in two runs, and I got the third camp chest in one of these runs as well.

I've been wondering does Jaheira have the same VA from the original games? Nope original games was Heidi Shannon and 3 is Tracy Wiles. They do sound pretty close though. Don't think any of the voice actors from the older games redid their roles in 3. Did like the new ones though. Bunch of them did for Baldurs Gate: Siege of Dragonspear including Grey Griffin (Viconia), Jim Cummings (Minsc), Kevin Michael Richardson (As the narrator, but he did also play Sarevok). Seems like Cissy Jones also had a role but don't know what it was, but she is the Absolute in the 3rd. Did mostly just google these so validity may be debatable, but had fun going into that rabbit hole. And an unrelated fact that Youtube bestowed upon me. You can talk to the corpses in Yurgir's bed. Which is neat. Still can't sleep on it

But I remember Jaheira's voice in those games and it did sound similar to her voice in BG3. Okay I was going to replay the Dragon Age games after I was done with BG3. But this conversation has made me want to replay the first two Baldur's Gate games. Maybe I can work up the nerve and romance Viconia.

What if you kept stealing near her and then recruited her? Would her approval be so low that she'd immediately leave?
I didn't play at all the other day because I was too tired. I played for a bit tonight though. I was surprised to see Tara is still on the roof at the temple. And I just learned now that Tara is found on two more rooftops when you get to the city and you can trade for a couple of magic items. I had no idea!

What if you kept stealing near her and then recruited her? Would her approval be so low that she'd immediately leave? IDK if there is anything unique with SH. Usually, the NPCs, which don't get aggressive when they spot a stealing attempt, refuse to talk after the attitude drop below a certain point which then opens a dialog to give them some gold or items to increase the attitude to smooth it over. It happened to me with the gnomes from the Underdark who refused to talk in the Rivington hideout after killing and looting the myconids. Killing might still be OK but they did not like the looting way more probably due to multiple instances of throwing around and picking up the myconid corpses in plain sight.

I was surprised to see Tara is still on the roof at the temple. And I just learned now that Tara is found on two more rooftops when you get to the city and you can trade for a couple of magic items. I had no idea! You can also beat her up in revenge for her banditry toward the pigeons to incapacitate her and loot a nice amulet. It seems this is not a big deal since she will revive herself after a long rest and will behave like nothing happened. The items she tries to trade in other locations can be pickpocketed. Some people claim she will take only fish or other magical items in trade but in my case, she did not take fish but took the gold instead quite happily. These interactions requires Gale to talk to her on the temple roof. If there is no Gale in the party or if he's dead, she's still on the Temple roof, but I could not find her in other two or three locations in the Lower City.

Well, yeah I thought I was going to have to attack her and I panicked a bit. I'm playing as Gale on HM. I had Astarion sneak up onto the roof to steal the letters, except Gale was the one who got confronted by her for the "theft". My options were to try to talk my way out of it or attack. I was like "Please don't force me to attack Tara". I didn't have the option to ask her about the letters because I hadn't visited the courier office yet/picked up the missing letters quest. I wonder if she would have self revived if I had to attack her? I'm just glad I didn't have to.
I had no idea she was on rooftops in other locations. Since I've only fought Orin in duels as DUrge, I didn't know what to expect when fighting her as a non-DUrge on HM, so I looked up a video and saw the guy was using this hat on Gale for the magic missiles. I had never heard of this hat before so I looked it up and then discovered that it's one of the items you can buy off Tara. So I'll definitely be getting that from her.
All these playthroughs I've done and there's still stuff I haven't discovered yet!

Another thing I noticed. When I went to the circus, I was able to walk right in without being sniffed by Benji. I thought you always got sniffed and he will just say something different depending? I've seen him tell Paladins that they smell boring (or something like that) and you still have to use a check to get in. Not this time. The guy at the gate welcomed me to the circus and said not to piss off the Djinni. (That was precisely what I was going to do, he must have read my mind, ha ha). I'm in the city now and did some Gale stuff. I went to Sorcerous Sundries, looted all the goodies from the tower and the vault, then to the temple to talk to Mystra. Then I went back to the tower to deal with Lorroakan. He folded like a cheap suit. Aylin actually got some good hits in too. If only she hit that hard when we were fighting Ketheric. I went in search of Tara and in doing so, I ended up aggroing Helsik. There was no option for me to ask her about opening up the portal. I don't know what I'm supposed to find and where in order to have the option? It automatically does for DUrge, so there must be some other way to bring it up for everyone else? Well, I couldn't be bothered so I sent Astarion to pickpocket the tome and bag from her and he got caught. But it ended up being not a bad fight. I found Tara up on the roof and traded magic items for the hat. I kind of wish Gale had the option to talk to her about his goings on but she was all business. I haven't seen her at camp.

I don't know what I'm supposed to find and where in order to have the option? Did you talk to Raphael in his parlour? Would figure he'd be the trigger since unless you know about the hammer/ showed him your gorgeous calligraphy, visiting his house is kinda stupid. Like no shame and I know the lure of loot and blood but why the heck would you do that.

There was no option for me to ask her about opening up the portal. I don't know what I'm supposed to find and where in order to have the option? It automatically does for DUrge, so there must be some other way to bring it up for everyone else? There are two books with hints. One is in Gortash parents house and another is somewhere in Helsink's house (basement or second floor, not sure). Also, if you helped Yurgir, he will come to the camp during rest to point toward Helsik. In addition to that, passing multiple checks (mostly low level perception and medium level arcana with a persuasion option at some point) is needed to open up the full inventory. Some background into Gortash's dealing with Helsik might help as well but mileage may vary there. All duplicates of the ingredients are scattered around the second floor of Devil's Fee. I think (not sure how it is in the latest patch), the instructions can be read from her inventory without stealing. There is also a hilarious fireball imp head trap on the second floor, which is not auto disabled if access is not allowed by Helsik. The head complains that it is too hot, and placing water on it will disable the trap. However, the head then will complain that it is too cold.

I did talk to Raphael at Sharess' Caress and exhausted the dialog tree with him, before telling him no. I went to Sorcerous Sundries and got the Karsite book and all that. When I saw there was no way to ask Helsik about the portal, I tried to pickpocket the items from her. I knew about the Thirsty Ward upstairs. I guess I could have just gone upstairs and disabled the ward without taking the items from Helsik if I wanted to. I really just wanted to see Tara but I had to go upstairs to Helsik's room to be able to jump up to her from the balcony. I could have just went back later to ask her about the portal when I found the other clues. I don't like killing vendors.

Finvola Just want to be clear that I was trying to make a stupid joke at going to a big demons lair and how it should be a very bad idea but I'm still doing it because adventurers. Because reading it again it looks mean and that was not the intention and tone carries bad through text. Know how annoying it is to aggro someone on Honor because peace decided it was not going to be an option. Specially if they have nice items they don't drop when dying. In a tip way late to be helpful, I like to reach Tara from the path to Cazadors lair, just before you enter the house. Should be able to make it with a regular jump (but take some damage) or if you have fly/misty step/someone strong enough to throw you.

Now that I am officially in Baldur's Gate I will be taking my previously mentioned short break. I did go to Sharess Caress and met the infamous Drow twins. That's where I stopped playing. In the meantime I reinstalled Cyberpunk 2077 and thanks to the Cloud I was able to continue where I left off months ago. Since I am close to finishing that game I will do just that before returning to BG3.

I finally had enough energy to return to BG3, today. It was only for a couple of hours, but it was great to resume. I hope to play more tomorrow.
We picked up in Act 2 with Gale. We'd saved just after encountering, and talking to death, both Gerringothe and Thisobald Thorme. Today, we backtracked and explored the mason's shop, catching Korilla spying on us. We encountered Arabella and sent her to our camp. We found her dead parents and talked Malus Thorme to death. Through 4 playthroughs, I've yet to fight any of the Thormes in Reithwin.
We found the Thorme Mausoleum and spoke with Raphael outside. He's such an entertaining character. He promised to translate Astarion's scars if we kill the Orthon within the vaults. We didn't yet enter the Mausoleum, as we will probably visit Moonrise first.
I didn't fight the undead Sahuagin on the shore/outside the House of Healing morgue. I'll probably go back and do so for the XP.
The Gith'yanki ambushers near the House of Healing were either invisible or in a slightly different area. I've always previously counter-ambushed them and killed them pretty easily. I wondered if the invisibility is part of Honour Mode or more recent patches? If they're invisible, that's nothing a 2nd-level spell (or potion) can't handle, and I'll get the drop on them as usual.
We fast-traveled back to Last Light and awoke Art Cullagh with his old lute. He gave us intel on how to locate Thaniel, and Halsin headed for the shoreline. I saved just before triggering that fun battle.
I think Gale and crew will prioritize helping Halsin with Thaniel, and then maybe destroy those undead Sahuagin, before heading to Moonrise for the first time. We still have plenty of spell slots, two short rests, etc... and Gale has Mystra's temporary boon. We'll try to push as far as possible before taking a long rest.

I took a break for a few days too. I've been playing something else in between. I had a delayed cutscene during a long rest. Gale had already spoken to Mystra, but when I long rested, the Narrator spoke as if he hadn't yet had this meeting. I was like "Yes yes I've already spoken to her and we've moved past this".
I wanted to get Minsc as soon as I could because I like respeccing him and having him in my party. Minthara had been the one to get kidnapped, but that was a deliberate choice. I like using Halsin sometimes to shapeshift into a Water Myrmidon because he can attack 3 times as opposed to the one time a summoned one can. And he makes a good heal bot as a myrmidon.
So I got Minsc, respecced him and off we went to do the Bhaal stuff. I saved the would be murder victims and went to the Murder Tribunal. I wasn't planning on becoming an unholy assassin and I purposely brought Minsc and Jaheira along. Of course a fight ensued, but the party was a little too far back when the fight started so I had to waste actions and abilities to get closer. But it wasn't too bad. Valeria lived to see another day. Lucky her!
I be-bopped around town for a bit and then went to face Orin. I wasn't sure what to expect because I've never done this as a non-DUrge on HM. I have done the fight with Orin and the Bhaalists before (if you start the duel and step out of the arena, it turns into a full battle) but not on Tactician or HM. It turned out I really overprepared and didn't need the ton of summons I brought. I hasted Gale to unload upcasted magic missiles twice, then Minsc and Astarion went to town. The end. The cultists had broken sanctuary and Astarion had See Invisibility active so they couldn't pull their shenanigans. I was bracing myself for something really scary and it wasn't.
Unfortunately Minthara didn't survive. I failed the persuasion check and I didn't bother to go into Orin's room before the fight so I could pick the dialog choice that doesn't need persuasion. I just wanted to get the fight started because I had been psyching myself up for it all day, lol.

Couple of friends and I are starting a MP BG3 game. I'm running a dragon-blooded halfling sorcerer (and the talky one). We also have a white dragonborn druid (Circle of the Moon) and a dwarf barbarian. We're bringing Shadowheart along for heals.
