That's a problem also in DOS2, thats one of the reason why tank builds are bad there, because you don't have any real option to force the enemy to target the tank instead of your squishies. You keep yourself from getting hit either by evasion/dodge skills, using CC with all your party members, or just outputting very large amounts of DPS (Fire-based strats or exploits such as the neutron star chest). I didn't play yet BG3, but I guess it's similar there. If I go by the BG1-ToB and the stuff I saw from videos, CC is still very effective, especially sleep. It also didn't help that the gnoll hunters are bugged and make 3 longbow shots per round instead of 2. If they win initiative, they just drop weaker characters in the opening round. But yeah, strategies usually involve igniting the flammable barrels before they do, dropping stalactites, chandeliers, etc. on them. Depending on where you are, there can be useful things in the environment. Best strategy I've found is to scout, use stealth, and pick them off. And sometimes, depending on where you are, you can use ranged attacks and kite enemies. Stealth is overpowered, along with invisibility (see Imp familiar). As is shove (should require an Athletic DC for success), jump/disengage (should be a full action) and surfaces (should have a DEX DC with half damage on success and shouldn't be on cantrip of all things). Players are just cheesing encounters right now. Speaking of dropping stuff on enemies. The 3 foodies Ogre encounter have a setup to have a big rock fall on them. I tried it. The rock did 3 points of damage to one of them. Went form 49 HP to 46. Amazing! Then the nearest one walked all the way to my character and almost one-shot with a none-critical attack.

Ohh, I want to play this so bad, but I'll have to wait at least untill next month when I'll finally have enough money to buy myself a usable gaming laptop. But the nostalgia is so strong, and the EA looks right up my alley with how they're encouraging us to play evil... my favorite way to play BG! I'm turning my avatar back to my neutral evil Priest of Talos Bhaalspawn for the occasion.
Meanwhile I'm finally playing through DOS2 while I wait. Great game, but I hope there will be less moments when NPC actions make little sense due to your PC race... Malady just figured out I'm undead by biting my ear. What ear?! I haven't had ears for centuries, Mal!
Anyway, really excited for BG3, although I already dread the feeling of unfulfillment once I exhaust the EA content. Hope we won't have to wait terribly long to experience the whole story.
Oh, and the vampire spawn elf is burning hot...

Wyll once used his upgraded blast to knock the cambion(?) boss into the spider pit (goblin den). That was a good day.

Here, it allow you to throw enemies far, far away sometimes...and it's annoying because it takes many, many turns to rejoin the battle if they don't die from the fall. But not as annoying as my character deciding to jump off a roof falling prone instead of using the ladder that was right there.

Things I learned today both in-game and online. Darkvision > torches. My future BGIII party will be filled exclusively by races with darkvisions or warlocks who take the invocation. Maybe taking light as the starting cantrip for High Elf/Half-Elf High Elf might be a workaround for the none-darkness approved races. I feel like I'm kind stuck in the game, moving toward quest objectives, but kinda failing at everything unless I'm mega-cheesing. Maybe Ranger, Cleric, Fighter, Warlock is just a sucky party. You can return to camp using the map button and interact with people. If you click the bed it return you where you were without sleeping (no day passed unlike when clicking the long rest button). This will be abused so much once the camp gets more services. You can free the goblin at the Grove and she will help you get inside the goblin camp. Spider Matriarch is a cheater. 4d6 ranged at-will AOE cannot be obtained until level 17th by players, yet this level 4 spider has one + 14 adds. Scratch is totally DAO Dog, he will get you things...if they were not bugged and just printed out weird strings. Boots that protect against emwebbed are awesome, except not when there is only one pair and you have a party of 4 and there are webs everywhere. Web burn super well, too well...don't let anything throw webs at you when there is a candle burning on the ground. Gale doesn't like it when you refuse to have blind faith in him. Why would I put my faith in a dude who let me for dead not that long ago? I still think he's the less trustable party member. He's a level 15-20 Wizard pretending to be level 1!!!! At least, Shadowheart is clear she's doesn't want you to know things. Her lies are adorable, especially when they come with sarcasm.

Wyll once used his upgraded blast to knock the cambion(?) boss into the spider pit (goblin den). That was a good day. I split the party and positioned each next to a goblin. Lae'zel started the action by going invisible and pushing the archer off the catwalk into the pit with the spiders. Once battle started, the rest just shoved their opponents into the pit. Here, spiders, food!!!

I started off in the different direction from the first PT from the Druid Grove and ran into the Paladins of Tyr who gave me a better exchange rate than the grove trader. It's still not great but it's an improvement. I grabbed a lot of loot, got the Sword of Justice, scooped up a nice greataxe for Lae'zel, lots of food (yummy!) that I distributed among the party, a lot of jewellery and sent a caboodle of armour and weapons to camp chest. Also found a secret chamber. I'm pretty sure I missed something in there because there were a lot of vents but they were not triggered. Then I ran into jackals and it kind of went a bit wacko after the battle was over because I couldn't end Shadowheart's turn. No matter what I did, I couldn't get out of it so I had to reload and did the battle again but this time, the narrator bit wasn't triggered. Invisible wall. I can't go through the doorway even though there's no door. I can't grab the water barrel to try to put out the fire. Having Shadowheart cast water did nothing either. The flames went out briefly and pop right up and two of the party remained stuck near that ladder when I moved the MC through the other passage.

I learned something new about Shadowheart, she approve of trolling people. Also, I don't get how the dev managed the illusion over the swamp when right next to the place there is a cellar with major rendering errors all over the place.

I resolved the invisible wall. I used jump to get into the building. Also heads up, there's a NPC trapped in the upper floor. His rescue is timed so don't do anything else than try to get him out once the broken door is knocked down.

The one trapped under the beam, and the woman behind the door the guards are trying to break through. You can jump through the gap in that door though to get to her, then open/bash the door to the right to let fresh air in. It's easier if you use two party member to split up and rescue them both.

I guess I'm taking my sweet time with this game because it feels I have so much more to do and I've almost played for 30 hours lol....money well spent imo. I haven't had this much fun in a game in a looonng time. I've only just cleared out the goblin castle and saved Halsin, but now the entire outside of the camp is after me too XD That's my four person party vs. ~20 including a ogre >.< Literally the quarter of my screen was just popping up with new enemies as I stood in a corner near the waypoint.
The weird thing is, after you defeat all three bosses inside the castle, Halsin immediately goes to a cutscene and says something along the lines of 'wow you did it! I'm going to the grove now, cya' and leaves you to the goblins outside...LOL.
You can also rest at camp and if you've just spoken to Halsin you'll be magically transported to the grove after you rest. makes sense...
I can totally see this quest being changed...a lot.
It also seems weird that you can rest at camp while you're in a dungeon.
TBH I think they should have a limited rest inside dungeons like these. It would up the challenge and make it more interesting.
Having the ability to have a full party rest in the goblin castle doesn't make sense even though I did use it in between the ringleader battles lol.
I'm now trying to kill Ethel but still trying to figure out her maze of poison. That illusion over her house was pretty awesome I gotta say. I wasn't expecting it at all and when the scenery changed I was like wow...bring back the flowers.

Investigating does pay off... You can speak with one of the dead paladins in the toll house to learn they are in fact, devil cultists. Talking with animals is always fun/helpful. You can un-petrify the dwarf in the hag's lair with potion found much earlier in the game. Though... The swamp illusion was a nice touch. It broke the moment I entered though, so I didn't get see the gingerbread house version.

I couldn't resist and played further into the story (so much for waiting for more animation fixes...) I ruined the mood to an ogre couple... (Shrek and Fiona?), i wasn't expecting that, and sure as hell they weren't either Btw, i'm liking the development of the companions between them, and the PC. (I really think Gale and & the Edgy elf, i mean, Shadowheart are developing something together)

Every encounters in the game are basically deadly boss fights. It's ridiculous. And not as fun as Larian might be thinking. I do sometimes feel underpowered, like I got to the spider cave pretty early and realised I had to backtrack because there was just no way I could take the queen on. But at the same time I've had the same battles go in so many different, wild directions. I reloaded a few times in the goblin castle and sometimes the battle went my way and sometimes the majority of my party had their health wiped in the first round. Sometimes my party was also shoved to death and it's just so hard to come back from that especially if they land somewhere inaccessible or a few levels down. That is what makes it so fun and interesting for me though, no battle feels the same and every character you encounter and fight feels so unique and challenging. No fight has felt like a 100% assured win unless you've reloaded a few times to gauge a sound strategy. I think Larian have vastly improved the combat from DOS2 and it is just *so* much more fun and enjoyable and replayable. The extra actions make it more interesting imo and the spells are also way better. Once you get a balance in your party every character feels like they add their own unique abilities that was way harder to balance in DOS...in short. I am loving the combat xD

I'm talking about... ... the upstairs door. If you help them break down the outside door, the guards will rush to break down another door upstairs where the woman is. They can't get through that door, but there's enough of a gap that you can jump over them, through the cracked door, and into the room where she is.

Also found a secret chamber. I'm pretty sure I missed something in there because there were a lot of vents but they were not triggered. Was it a secret place that had a couple of rooms with lots of shelves, and one room having 2 large throne-like chairs in it? If so, that's your hint.

Yes, I dumped things on the two chairs to get the door open but I was expecting a trap to go off when I went in. Nothing.

I'm going to stop the ranger PT. Shadowheart keeps glitching her turn. It's irritating when the fight is going good and then she glitches out, her turn becomes permanent and the combat is stuck there.

Astarion's a naughty boy. If he had been honest, I'd probably let him have a taste. However, since there's no discussion of the consequences after, I'm going to say no.
I reloaded the stupid fight and tried one more time. It went off and well, I had to tell someone to end themselves.

Yes, I dumped things on the two chairs to get the door open but I was expecting a trap to go off when I went in. Nothing. There is... ... a pressure plate past the door with the two chairs, but it's small so even if you don't detect it, you could miss it.
