Bane, Tempus, Tyr, and Torm have the War domain Auril, Talos, and Valkur have the Tempest domain Malar, Mielekki, Auril, and Silvanus, all have the Nature domain. All these are pretty important deities, and are worshiped in the Sword Coast region. Even though some gods are worshiped more than others In Baldur's Gate, it's still a major city, and rather cosmopolitan. I doubt there would be a problem in allowing clerics access to whatever domains they want. What I'm curious about is whether they will open it up so far as to bring in nonhuman deities. That's what I meant. If the devs go with only the main gods worshiped in Baldur's Gate (to have some story integration I guess), you can't cover all the core options and alignments with them. They need to open it up and that means having ~20 gods and at that point, might as well add the cultural deities and lesser ones. In fact, the original BG games didn't even bother asking players who they worshiped outside BG2 cleric kits covering Helm, Lathander and Talos. and I forgot the Death domain isn't covered either...but death is easy: Bhaal. My guess is they won't bother to ask.

I'm so hyped for BG3 that I bought Divinity: Origin Sin 2 as a proxy and am playing it totally blind. Absolutely no clue how the rule set works and know nothing about the lore and setting, but I'm having great fun discovering as I go! Amazingly well done, so far.

I have to say I am not at all impressed with Larian's level and quality of writing. The gameplay is fun, sure, but I'm looking for something more than that, nowadays. I don't particularly trust Larian to deliver on that front. So I'm not particularly excited right now. Maybe something will influence my disposition more positively in the future. Though I don't know what that would be.

Can't say I really care. The Bhaalspwan's story is done. What's the point of a BG3 after so long?

Can't say I really care. The Bhaalspwan's story is done. What's the point of a BG3 after so long? Forgotten Realms and D&D are back as being popular things and BG is their most popular brand outside pen&paper circles beside Neverwinter which has a MMO running. BG stand for Baldur's Gate, it's a city, not a specific character. The city continue on and has other stories to tell even after characters are dead.

True enough I suppose but I can't get enthusiastic about the game. Maybe DnD don't have the pull it used to for me.

I, for one, I'm looking forward to how Larian adapts the newer D&D rules. On that note, IGN is making a miniseries about the upcoming tabletop adventure module, Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus, the alleged semi-prequel to Baldur's Gate 3. I thought it might be of interest to those following the game.

Episode the third and, as I understand it, the penultimate one. The adventure module releases next week. My hope if that afterwards Larian will say something substantial about BG3, and we won't longer have to grasp at straws.

Well, I've already got my first character planned! I know I should technically wait until we find out which classes and races are available, but I put it to you that 'dwarf cleric' is a concept so basic to D&D that no game that cannot manage it has any business using the license. (I am not yet committed to a domain. I'd prefer Tempest, but if we don't get that then War will be fine. The important thing about my dwarf is that she has heavy armor, a big warhammer and the power of the gods.) I'm really interested to see what kind of starting background we'll have. Like with the original BG and then the NWN expansion Shadows of Undrentide, you were someone's ward or student, in NWN you were a rando who answered the call to arms, in NWN2 you're an adopted kid from a swamp.... Backgrounds like this have an, uh, interesting effect on racial selection as well, since it's hard to justify being a 150 year old elf when you were supposedly born 20 years ago. BUT ANYWAY. I'm hoping to play a half-orc ranger or tiefling warlock. 👌

True, I just don't know if it'll affect where we start out in the game. Or if they just throw us in a tavern after we choose one of however many backgrounds.

Yeah - I cheerfully ignore this with a lot of my BG characters (maybe Bhaalspawn grow up faster than other elves/dwarves/gnomes???) but there's a reason my NWN2 characters have been a halfling, an orc and a human. I'm hoping for something with enough flexibility to cover all the standard races.

Though my NWN2 characters were mostly tieflings and half-orcs, I also had a drow character and that... definitely didn't work with the given timeline, lol, though it was fun befriending a giant spider. I'm hoping for flexibility this time around, too.

I'm very excited about BG 3. That is the second great game sequel announcement for me after Bloodlines 2.
I tend to ignore the fact, that your elven or gnomish character has to be much more older than 20 in the first game too. I head cannon, Gorion found them, when they were nearly grown up, that they had indeed a life before Candlekeep, despite some dialigues that suggest otherwise.

At long last. I think this is the only RPG I'm looking forward to at the moment. I had given up hope that it would release this year, but if they're starting to talk about it this early there is a small chance. The stuff in that teaser looks like mocap and voiceover recordings, which gives me hope.
