So shortly after I threatened to expose Governor Burham's dirty little secrets and he in turn threatened to have De Sardet killed, a messenger came requesting aid in Hikmet. I guess he couldn't stay mad for very long... LOL. I initially intended to leave him to fend for himself, but I guess I just couldn't leave those poor villagers to suffer as well. So De Sardet went to visit Governor Burham, and just to lighten the mood De Sardet decided to cosplay as Doctor Asili since the Governor seemed to love the guy so much. I think he really appreciated it. Good news, the conversation between the two was very professional and respectful. At least that's how I interpreted these events... Uh oh, we're back to wanting to kill each other again. I think its because I keep calling him Burham. Not Burhan.

They just frigging eat oranges. By the boat load. Vitamin C will protect us from the Malacor! So yeah more Greedfall. Did poke some more at the character generator because shut up I like pretty faces. Except I couldn't make one. I had a candidate and he looks good when I think back to him, but in game he looks so...meek. And the voice (extremely pleasant as it is) isn't helping. So decided to load the lady with the fancy hats. Spoilers ahoy. The whole "U need to stealth past the Nauts" always cracks me up, since she can just strut past the guards into the secret warehouses and NOBODY bats an eye. Like srsly, she aint even got a face tattoo! (I do want it tho, but did Vasco's quest to early and can't convince him to scribble on her while she sleeps. ) While being sour like a lemon I'm not going to reload like 4 hours into the game for smooches. Still. So. Very. Sour. Was also going to make fun of the Order Lumus security then the feckers almost killed me. Literally. Got so startled when they suddenly popped up I nearly choked on my spit. They are evil I tell you! EVIL. But they are all daddies as well so, much conflict. Found some juicy background on DeSardet's birth place and enjoyed seeing her still being shocked over the fact she might be adopted. Then go on to meet Constantin to spill the tea to him, but he had DRAMA of his own. That whole sequence was just amazing. So much excitement I literally went and got some real popcorn for it. Which was a great mistake since greasy fingers + combat = dirty keyboard. Still made it through it. Head honcho got arrested, VIP's are still breathing and only one Liutenant got away since I didn't want to risk him getting away. Then even more drama and the resignation that my most precious is probably going to die since I am rubbish during my first runs of game. But at least managed to drag Dorian over to him to ease some of his pain, before calling it a day for now. But it was a grand session.

So got to the point of returning to Constantin after completing everything else and have had enough, I am just not enjoying the game enough to keep playing it. It's OK but the story and characters never engaged me from the beginning and too many of the game mechanics just frustrate me or I find tedious. Just don't have the motivation to get to the end.

I'm kinda jealous that you managed to make a faction hostile, Frost. I lost 10 points with the Alliance at once but that just knocked them down from Nice back to Suspicious. I'm thinking of reloading a save 10 hours back from the end to play the game out a bit different, but also I kinda just want a break at the moment.

!!!Lady McFancyHatDeSardet will be getting smooches! Kurt has offered to be the sacrifice. Nice. And all it took was making some fanatics lynch a fellow. Huh... Then SourFace McGee can take Vasco since I kinda want a run with her and Mustachio will take Siora and maybe try to bag the achivo for Aphra as well since I'm having trouble with the fourth face and looking it up it seems she isn't bi. Which is a pity since I felt kinda vibes between her and the lady from her group. I also should probably give them some proper names... Either way, todays session. Much spoilers, little sense. Be safe down there. Snerk. Decided to do the quest for Petrus since I was in the area (see how poor baby Constantin is quickly forgotten? I'm a monster ) and strutted up to the Bookmaker to challenge the Champion. And he was like "no rich bich, you need to rank up like everyone else". And then Petrus went "I can't be bothered to follow you while you rank up" And like do you have anything better to do? But at least he didn't leave the party automatically. On the other hand, Vasco was just there by the fire. Hanging out. Having a good time and all. Still kept Petrus in the team as we braved and tamed the arena. Luckily we only needed to go past rank 3, since rank 4 pretty much whacked me on the first round so...took what I got. Then she got to fight with the Champion and I'm pretty sure it's the easiest fight I had in this game yet. Since I brought a gun to a sword fight'n'all. Then some more story drama and I'm feeling a bit confused on everything. Still holding onto hope that Petrus is the real father, but the chances are looking bleak. Decided to do Aphra's quest as well since she'd been waiting patiently. Nothing much interesting happened there, but the natives were cute. And then the hunt for Panacea. Which was a bust. Bummer. Regretted my decision but going to live with it. But thinking back on it, I'm guessing sending her to the alliance wasn't an option. Which is sad if it's true. Because how DARE she bruise my fragile ego?! Then went to complete the religious plot. And you fecking native idiots. Stop throwing your family members at me! I have reload, they don't! And now they're dead and I'm not. Told Constantin about how things were progressing and he told me to offer EVERYTHING to save him. Kinky. But so far, yes. Everything for my sweetest boy. But first, side quests. Also really want to know how far I am in the main quest, as in am I close to the end or is there going to be huge new chapter or what, but looking it up is just begging for spoilers. BAH. Either way took Kurt up on his smooches and holy guacamole he has hair. I mean of course he's got hair. Or well like. His hat comes off! I didn't know it came off! Also wonder if DeSardet snogged him or just ate his soul. Because that music was pretty sinister for some tongue wrestlin'. Just sayin'... Either way now she's Sweet Excellency, while His Excellency would still have worked as well I guess. And yes, a lot of the game characters refer to her as him. But always as Lady, never a Lord. So not sure what they're playing at. Ended the session on sleuthing for some Nauts and joining hands with Religion to clean up their filthy mess. Because I'm quite done with the natives for now, not gonna lie. But it was a fun enough session. So good times.

Some fun explosions, basically I like guns in Spiders games. ^Image with Naut tattoo. Mostly obscured by facial hair. Also, this photo makes me think of a letter to home. Dear Mother, I write you from the island of Tir Fradi. Things are going well, I have made many new friends. The Natives are not at all what I expected. Your son, De Sardet. PS Why do I not have a first name?

So I bought the game on a whim last night. I did terribly want a cinematic RPG with a customizable character, decent dialogue, plot, companions, and choices.
...And I'm kind of loving it. This is what I've been looking for while I wait for Dragon Age 4. Or SWTOR to give me new shiny things.
I did have this problem where I've never played a game with parry/dodge combat, but I solved the problem with guns. So now De Sardet is a nice young lady with a pistol, which has worked out well for me so far. It's weird NOT to be a tank on the first go-round, but it's probably better for everyone that way. I have also immediately decided I will protect every character I've been introduced to so far... Which I am SURE will go fabulously with absolutely no hitches along the way. I'm getting a kick out of being my cousin's bodyguard/thinking brain/enabler, and I also managed to cheese a level death fight with my guns over the merchant/native incident. Knowing nothing about the setting, WHAT IS ACTUALLY WRONG WITH THE GUARDS HERE

but I solved the problem with guns. Ah, the American way of life.
Also, I think your first sentence is a good example of a point I noticed about this game. I think Spiders had a nice feel (or just got lucky) with the timing of Greedfall. There hasn't really been a game like this in a long time if you think about it (the last dialogue heavy 3rd person RPG I can think of was AC: Odyssey and that's a year old by now and it is much more exploration/open world focused than Greedfall and had no companions). So people were starving for a game like this and Spiders hit right into hat empty void. I think it's a big part of why people seem to be very fond of this game.
I know I have my complaints about a lot of details about this game but I still love playing it and probably largely because I didn't have anything like it in quite a while.
Anyway, in other news, I am now a whopping 45 hours into the game and still no end in sight. I didn't expect it to be so content heavy. The side quest lines especially are longer and more intricate than I expected (though I think I cleared up most of them by now. At least I sorted out the coin guard (and yes, there is A LOT wrong with the guard), went all paradigm shift on Theleme, protected some Naut secrets and sorted out a lot of atrocities against the natives. As a result, I am friendly now with everyone (nations and companions) except the Bridge Alliance, who are still suspicious of me. What is it with these guys. They were supposed to be my closest allies (at least that's what I was going for in the beginning, really wanted to work mostly with the science guys). But they just won't give me any quests. Ah well, onward with the main quest for now and getting to see that god of the natives, what's his name? Emanuel Friggingdemon?
Oh, but one more thing that also really struck me yesterday while playing is that I think I figured out why this game - despite having really great stories and characters and all - doesn't quite suck me in to the extent that even the lesser BioWare games did (yes, I was even more invested in ME: Andromeda's Ryder, Vetra and Drack than I am in Greedfall's DeSardet, Vasco and Siora), not to mention Gems like the ME trilogy or the Witcher series. The game lacks any kind of humor. Everyone is pouring their problems onto me in this game (as is usual for RPGs) but no one ever seems to make light of a situation, crack a joke or even be snarky or sarcastic. I don't think I have ever smiled or chuckled while playing. I think this is why I don't feel like I have bonded with any of my companions despite doing all their quests, learning about their pasts and stuff. If you look through these very forums, what are the most quoted and remembered character moments? It's the card game with everyone in DA:I, it's bottle shooting with Garrus, it's funny lines of banter while traveling, it's Jolee Bindo's witty comments, it's when Geralt gets drunk with his fellow witchers. In short, it's the lighter moments, when all the doom and gloom from the main stories gets broken up by these characters. Greedfall doesn't really have these and at least subconsciously, I noticed all along that something was missing.
And even though I hate the concept of dedicated comic relief characters, here, there isn't even that. At first I thought Constantin might be it but that REALLY took a turn for the worse. I hope it's something Spiders will realize and that they will give their characters some lighter moments in future games.

It's very unusual for me to branch out. Most games bore me to actually play (I like watching them!), since I'm very fussy about what entertains me as a player. I like customization, I like story, I like cool cutscenes where I see my character, I like combat that feels like part of the actual game, and I like buddies to hang out with. Which means I mostly play the Bioware RPGs, an MMO on occasion, and XCOMs.
So me trying something new and enjoying it is making my husband terribly smug.
Ooooooooor it's that I'm playing on normal, despite my penchant for cranking the difficulty up higher for my amusement. Eventually I'll figure out this combat system.
I know what you mean about the characters. I'm fairly early on, but besides Constantin, it feels like "Problem problem problem". And since he is handling his problems glibly and being flippant, he has death flags popping up over his head since his appearance. I can sense a "kick this character for pathos" coming.

I picked up a partially completed MEA PT when I stopped playing Greedfall and it was the first thing I noticed!!!!! Some of the humour is a bit lame but it still nearly always gets a chuckle out of me and some of it is down right hysterical!!!! On top of that its the party banter that also makes a big difference, yesterday and after having played the game lots of times before I still got some new party banter from Liam. Him and Cora squaring off as they are so different is just great.

I asked Brother Virgil to get lost. 😒 In my heart, I wished to murder him the way he murdered his own brethren in psychopathic righteousness. I mean, there is literally no good justification for what he did, ugh.
Decided to share the findings that San Mateos was a heathen. 😈 And got to kill the bastard after all

I really liked the follower characters, I didn't like that you couldn't interact with them much. And when you did interact with them it felt more like playing guess the right answer than having an actual back and forth. Lack of humour didn't bother me too much but even with the limited convos there were a few lines that seriously needed to be infused with Sarcastic Hawke. The one that really stood out to me was after finding out about... Vasco's origin I clicked the "you wouldn't have wanted to be a stuffy noble anyway" line, and his response was, "I would've liked a choice in the matter." -1 REP LOL.

A pampered stuffy noble says to a commoner "you wouldn't have wanted to be like me"...Ya, right. Imagine if you are in a desperate money trouble because of a massive inflation. You have to sell every heirloom you ever had to bring food on the table for your family. You also had to be in line in front of the store from 3 am in the morning while praying there will be some food when the store opens at 8, because you may have fucking coupons that are given instead of a salary (because your monthly salary becomes a daily wage between the time you get it and the 20 minutes of the ride home), but those coupons are worthless if the store says "we are all out" (because they sent the food to the black market). And you better believe the black market doesn't accept your coupons. I am speaking from personal family experience. This was all 30 years ago (and a relapse 20 years ago) and I still can't laugh about it. And now imagine, with all the above, you meet a filthy rich guy that has everything handed to him on a silver platter his whole life. And he throws his barely eaten fat steak at his dog, lights up his cigar with a hundred dollar bill and tells you "money doesn't make you happy. You wouldn't want to be like me"... Yeah, all I am trying to say with this tirade is - the -1 Rep point is you getting off easy 😁

Yea but that's not quite the situation in the game though. Vasco is not an impoverished peasant in a country of economic crisis. He is a well established officer and holds a high rank with his people (at a young age already). And from all we know, even the lowly sailors among the Nauts can go to the taverns and drink their wages away during shore leave. Also, he doesn't really resent his life as a Naut as such, he just resents the fact that that choice was made for him. So this conversation was really more about a philosophical debate as to how the Nauts recruit and how other nations give away their children for personal profit. I still get why Vasco is not happy about DeSardet making light of his predicament but IMO your comparison is a bit off.

I still get why Vasco is not happy about DeSardet making light of his predicament but IMO your comparison is a bit off. I tried to do a modern spin from personal experience, true. But it's not so different if you think about it. I've met a lot of people who had wealth their whole life that told me even today (I am pretty well off now too) that things weren't so bright for them and they didn't have it better. To which I keep saying "screw you, what do you know?". They had a choice to stay rich or go poor and guess what they picked Others didn't have the choice to go from poor to rich over night
So while the Vasco conversation may sound philosophical to anyone that never had to unwillingly be at the edge of survival day by day, it has another undertone for me. And Vasco wasn't a captain his whole life. He started from the worst ship jobs and had to earn his way up by merit alone. This also gives a perspective when a noble claims "oh, you wouldn't have wanted to get to the highest power positions just by blood rights". And we all know that throughout history the nobles always looked down at any commoner that climbed up by skill alone.

He already stated that he preferred how things turned out. I don't know, it just seemed like a golden opportunity for a moment of self deprecating humour, especially since you had just seen what Vasco likely would've turned out as. Plus, the Malichor has a thing for De Sardet's loved ones. Something Vasco doesn't have to worry about. So its not like being a Naut isn't without its privileges. But really, my other criticism was that all I had to do was reload a save and pick the "proper" dialogue. Which was also the more boring choice, imo. Anyway, that's all I have to say on this.

Finished the game! It took me 50 hours. Some thoughts on the ending below (major spoilers): I got the back to roots ending with Derdre as high queen.
I was disappointed that I did not get a chance to blackmail the Theleme!!! Maybe it is because I picked Derdre for high queen? Or, is it just not possible to use the blackmail?
I was excited when I saw all companions fighting together at the end. However, it was short-lived as one by one they left, even the bf!
Read about the other endings, and the "best" ending seems too optimistic considering how rotten the Theleme and Bridge were.

I could be wrong but I think you can use the blackmail after you find out the revelation about Saint Matheus. Also, you need to have Petrus with you. I didn't end up using it, but I remember Petrus mentioning it.
