Quick update: I tested negative for covid-19 and the flu. I just had a bad cold and my anxiety made it much worse. They did some tests to make extra sure I was actually fine and just having a bit of mental breakdown.
Ugh.
Managing anxiety is key here. The fear and the lockdown cabin fever are worse than the virus for the majority of people.
Practice social distancing to protect yourself and especially others, but don't freak out. Stay positive and healthy and your body will come out on top.

Glad to hear you're okay, Kappa. I've had a few flare-ups with my Meniere's, it's quite debilitating...Lucky for me, I'm at home and can go to bed if I want or need to. I find The only fix is to take a nap and sleep it off. Otherwise I can be flat-out on the floor unable to move due to sever vertigo or hear anything except a solid high-pitched constant ringing in my ears. I wind up lying on my back squeezing my eyes shut, plugging my ears as hard as I can and staying perfectly still, hoping I don 't get sick to my stomach while I'm on my back, and praying it will be over soon. Most episodes I have last anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes, but if it's really bad it can last 5 or 6 hours.
Luckily for me these mini-episodes I've had at home have been manageable, it's the ones I've had at work that have been full-blown.

Along those lines … after self-quarantine (precaution because of vulnerable family), I got a scheduled shot yesterday. Consolidated that with another errand that was a gotta do. Just before bedtime, was feeling really tired … not bedtime tired, more like dog tired.
Woke up around 0200, ached all over, headache, feeling pretty puny and sweaty. Was hoping it was the shot, not COVID-19 … about 0300 got the info sheet out of my backpack, read what some of the side effects for the shot could be … yeah, it was a match … but it also said one in six have those symptoms last for up to two days. Ugh. Took some ibuprofen and acetaminophen, went back to bed, the drugs kicked in and by 0600 felt much better. Slept a few more hours, woke up … actually felt fine (whew!).
So yeah, with all the heightened awareness of COVID-19, we can get worried we have it, when something else is the culprit. Which means … take care of yourself.
On a different note, our paper today ran a list of traffic load in the area. Anecdotally, I knew it was down … the streets are pretty empty. If you account for essential traffic (trucks, folks who have to go to work or go to the grocery store) … there isn't a lot left. Some, certainly, but folks are staying home.
Also, 87% of our state is in some kind of mandatory restrictions. The other 13% are folks in counties that are composed mainly of farm and ranch land. In some respects, social distancing is their way of life. Regardless, all large venues are closed down, to include schools. So pretty quiet around here.
Going out running, meeting other runners … both of us moving off the sidewalk to increase the distance as we pass … and staying away from the doggies I meet on my run … they don't understand why, but their people do … so I just give a shout out to the pupsters and move on.
Edit add: with all the barbershops closed, if this continues for an extended time, my hair will soon be the longest it's been since I was 17 and went into the military. My sister won't even be able to gripe … just need to make sure she doesn't learn you can buy hair clippers on Amazon.

I shave my head (like Mr Clean) regularly and I hate it when it starts to grow in....But sometimes I'm quite lazy and can't be bothered to shave, especially since now I am off work. But I can't go more than a week at the very most before I go nuts and have to shave it all off again. I've 36 hours of stubble gets stupidly itchy....so I think tomorrow I am going to shave my head again. Hell, I have enough razor blades to last the next 3 years and I usually have a good stock of shaving cream; I buy three cans at a time so I don't have to go out all the time. I have at least four full cans in stock.
I haven't been to my local barbers (where I had been a customer since my very first hair cut when I was just a kid, maybe 5 years old) in five years because I save money by doing it myself.

No measure is absolute. With bad enough luck, you can become infected by driving by an infected person in 2m distance in an open vehicle. Or by opening a mail order package packed by an infected person. This is why you wash your hands frequently.
One question: I hear of "Lockdowns". What exactly does this mean? Here in Germany, we have a ban on public meetings of more than two people, and places that entail close contact between many people - restaurants, fitness centres, schools etc. - are closed, but most of us can still work provided they can do so while keeping a distance to other people.
Meanwhile, I'm not in quarantine. We're critical infrastructure and at the forefront of my states' efforts to fight the disease. I may even get drafted into a different job temporarily if things get worse than expected. It's April 2nd and these are the only states whose governors haven't issued a state-wide, stay-at-home order yet: Alabama Arkansas Iowa Missouri North Dakota Nebraska South Carolina South Dakota Tennessee Utah Wyoming Here's a guide to what that entails: See Which States and Cities Have Told Residents to Stay at Homewww.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-stay-at-home-order.htmlThe New York Times says they are making their COVID-19 news coverage free. It's burdensome but bearable where I live. Our governor is coming under fire for not letting more state employees work from home. Non-essential businesses are closed in Alaska, schools are closed and gathering sizes are limited. And yes, as you say, no measure is absolute. Stay safe! I will keep reposting this very useful link: Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU)coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html(refresh the page to refresh the numbers)

Great. One of my housemates has had a cough for three days running. Not bad enough to get tested with the supply of tests so low, but annoying, particularly when we share a bathroom and kitchen.

They was showing some disturbing images on the news just recently..coming out of NY....they was loading up dead bodies in refrigerated tractor trailers. The number of folks being infected by this virus continues to increase at a staggering rate. Folks seem to think this thing will reach a peak in a few weeks, but i don't see that happening no time soon.
As far as shutdowns go.....the U.S. just needs to shutdown the entire country for an extended period...like Frosted posted, there are a few states that are not shutting down due to them not having a serious outbreak,....but a complete shutdown is needed to get a true handle on this pandemic.

How do you do the back of your head? Do you use mirrors or the old patting trick? generally I just move the razor slowly from right to left, after several passes (up then down, reversing my grip), occasionally if I don't feel that it is short enough (as my blade gets more dull each time) I will use my left hand to feel where I haven't done, or how short it is. Because as I said, I shave my head smooth like Mr Clean. I can't stand stubble, or the feeling afterwards of having missed a spot, so I shave as close as possible even if that means having to shave my entire head twice. But if I have mirrors, I would use them for sure, it would make it so much easier.

Yeah that's why I think mos tcvounrties including us have gone int oa complete shutdown everywhere . The only businesses that aer still functioning are supermarkets and mail order businesses such as Amazon. Everyone else is shut down or working from home. Which I have noticed I think is taking it's toll on the internet as I've noticed Origin's been a bit slow the las tcouple of days. It's not. too bad but I mainly noticed it due to rebuilding my gaming library on my new PC as I'm redownloading my FIFA games atm while I play the ME trilogy.

When we I had to use the big full protection gas mask in drills we had to shave twice a day to get a good seal. Also what helps is skin lotion, it helps with the seal when you have a light stubble.

To all … the COVID-19 thread has been an awesome display of civility and a place for folks to chill, share stories, provide some useful links to various health-related organizations and send best wishes to those forum members or their families who are facing tough times. We had a minor outbreak of politically flavored posts, we have quarantined those posts, to practice safe political distancing in the forum. For the most part, folks have done that and we request you continue that practice. We don't need any feverishly hot takes to infect the thread. Thanks for listening. And now, back to our regularly scheduled postings.
