It's been a while but if I am getting what you asked for most of the earlier games had pretty strong/good interactions between characters and family (Ezio) with some very light romance stuff like he may kiss/flirt with someone. The antagonists were generally well written and the quests were pretty good but there was still a lot of filler stuff. Connor was a different beast all together, he had a well written relationship with his mentor, there was some early but short family stuff with his mum but other than that the enemies weren't that well written but there were some good main quests and there were some funny side quests. No real LI stuff except for one conversation between "dobby" and Connor in a pub, was disappointed it didn't go anywhere. The Desmond stuff (the modern day character) I thought was good as well. Black Flag, Edward was my favourite protag till Kass and they are probably about equal. Edwards story was very different but he was also a kind of anti-hero in terms of the Assassin side of things, a rogue who was just after wealth but who formed some very strong bonds with other NPC's and this was shown in the game in some quests. Especially with Adewale, Blackbeard and Mary Reid and Anne Bonny I think her name is. There is also a great emotional/touching ending to the game with Edward. Quests were OK in this game but some of the mechanics like chasing songs which were totally worth it for when the crew sang unlike the stupid tattoo schematics you have to chase in Valhalla. The crew songs I still have on my phone and listen to. The modern day stuff in BF was ordinary, the Isu stuff was interesting I thought. Unity was a meh, protag, story and all only the weapons and clothing I found good. I hope that helps be interested to see what Hrungr thinks of the older games and he has played them more recently. You pretty much have to look at them on a game-by-game basis. Some had better emotional beats & closure than others. Edward certainly had some memorable moments with other characters (esp. Mary Reid) and literally sails off into the sunset at the end. While I wasn't that fond of Rogue, I felt like there was closure here - facing their former mentor, officially joining the Templars, then FF a number of years to set in motion the events of the next game. Syndicate's one of my favs, with a number of interesting characters, but yeah - there's no real closure here. And it's all about Jacob & Evie, with poor Henry Green largely sidelined. Unity did try an on-and-off relationship, but really - the less said about that game, the better. As I've said many times before, I'm not a fan of the modern-day elements in any of the AC games, or the characters in them. I understand how essential they are to the overarching narrative of AC, but I've never felt the games were improved by their inclusion. They rarely wrap up well. Even the initial storyline idea of potentially getting wiped out by a solar flare just seems... dull somehow. Then finding that the cure itself is becoming a problem is honestly even duller. And I don't even want to talk about the Absergo office snooze-fests. But it is important to remember they produce these games quite quickly, so I'm not surprised some of these elements aren't handled with the same care and attention as a game in production for twice as long. Sometimes they find their groove, sometimes they don't. The only chars to have closure is Altair and Ezio (how they continue on after and their deaths). The rest appear, disappear. I have never feel AC games to have that kind of personal touch, the loving brush that paints the whole picture of a subject.

I have never feel AC games to have that kind of personal touch, the loving brush that paints the whole picture of a subject. Despite the whole sex misunderstanding, I think you get what I'm trying to say here and what I'm looking for. Sadly though, this seems to answer my question. It's not that Ubisoft is having a rough transition to RPG-writing, it's that they never had what I'm referring to in the first place. I still plan to play several of the old games, but at least I'll know what to expect (or what to not expect, I guess).

Contrast that with something like ME3, where even NPCs who are present only for that one game (like Vega or Javik) have extra lines to say after certain missions, even if they had nothing to do with those missions. It keeps everything connected, not like Shepard is entering a timeless void everytime they step aboard the Normandy. Part of this too is being a party-based game, and a BioWare party-based game t'boot. There's a certain expectation here. But I agree, I'd like to see more interaction with your core NPCs and LI. Or take Odyssey's main ending. I know you love the game, and I did enjoy it, but the abruptness of the ending kind of ruined the story for me to a large extent. There was this emotional ramp-up to finding Alexios and having a final confrontation, and then BOOM! Sudden happy family and the story is just over. There is no falling action after the climax. No question. Part of the reason why so many endings in these kinds of games are rushed/letdowns is that they know the majority of players will never see it. So most of their effort goes into the earlier parts of the game where there'll be more eyes on it.

To those playing on PC, how do you like the 'switch locked on target' mechanic for M&K? I just realized it's not the scroll wheel like in Odyssey. Not sure I like it because it requires a really sharp turn with the mouse. In theory, this should work better but it seems to be bugged. I think I've tried using the lock-on target feature... once? Maybe twice? While I'll occasionally take a swipe at someone I didn't intend to, I haven't really found it necessary. I also forgot that existed, except for the rare times when the game decides to "help" - you face an enemy, press the attack button and Eivor turns around to attack some pottery because it's an inch closer than the heavily armed soldier.

So yesterday opened the map to see what I'd do perched on an FT point in Northumptscire (my god the names ) and the game crashed. Anyway I stayed calm and decided I'd just do some running around doing puzzles, mysteries, wealth etc. and that's what I did crash free thank the gods. Looted a fort (Uffentune?) that I could not find to access one of the Treasure Chests in a building. I spent 30 minutes trying to find how to get in and it is the first one to defeat me. I am sure it is something simple because I can find nothing on it on the net. I am guessing it is one where you have to be in a particular spot and get the aim just right through a window. I had one two days before the same and the aiming point was not through a gap in the iron in the window but through a solid part. Either that or it is quest gated. Anyway I moved on and found Stone Henge (Yay) and found a guy with a longboat imagining he had a crew and did a raid against wolves. I stumbled on a bard singing to Saxons and entered a drinking game as it seemed to be the only way to finish the quest even though I guessed it was a trap and of course it was. Of course I lost the drinking game. I am now 1 for ten I think. Anyway then discovered a mysterious cave (Myridden cave) and found it was an Isu site missed a jump and died. Got booted back to the beginning of the cave and was going to give it a miss as it is obviously quest related but changed my mind and found Excalibur. Of course I couldn't remove it as I only had 9 of the 11 (I think) stones. Enjoyed putting the ones I had in though. Then cleared a curse and went off to do some fishing and for the first time two fish actually got away!!!! And that was pretty much that, today will do the Northumptscire story Anyone keep coming across wolves in traps you can free? Pic's Came across this damn snake area, there must have been at the very least twenty of the dan things. Viper Eggs for everyone!!!! Helped this guy win an imaginary raid against wolves, at least I got to blow the horn!!!! Killed this guy for getting me poisoned killing some Danes. Stonehenge Fish Isu Excalibur Cave Scenery

So where the heck do I even begin with all of this? Oh where do I actually begin! Its been about two days of actually some extended playthroughs to report in and well I am at least trying to organize at least my none spoilery thoughts. I suppose it is funny though I am having a lot easier of a time bumping into the Order members without even meaning to or targeting them or knowing what I am doing. The first time it really took me aback actually because here I was raiding this random settlement and then killed this one gal got the weird screen and then went to one of those really weird cutscenes with us waxing eloquent on their deaths. And since I was not prepared for it it came off out of nowhere, without context, and I do not think I like those scenes at all...that being said the other three I've run into were much better even if I was prepared for them or not. Wigmund's, slight spoiler?, was also really good actually and the little characterization of the man we got to that point matched it perfectly (at least I think it was Wigmund in honesty I might be confusing the two of them lol) Also with that I also triggered the Yuletide event which is cool but also weird. Cool because I like how it changes the ambiance of your home base and does make it snowy and festive...but it only seems to effect the settlement. If I were to hazard a guess the rest of England is somewhere in fall...but definitely not winter, or the same winter as we are getting in Ravensthorpe. And well GOOD NEWS though I got Redda and I really dig his introduction there and the references to him almost being not quite right and one of those interesting tidbits where the line between Eivor and Layla gets kind of blurred a bit as Eivor claims that Redda is familiar. And I got contracts...but I suppose more on that later. And well I did have a lot of trouble and some not trouble finding books and gear pieces. Also one of them was in Veonis...though the one of note was I found the Rettae Assassin's Beureu and I rather liked that, took me awhile to figure this one out but then it occurred to me that the arrow point of the A could be an arrow, so I followed it and found my way down. I wonder if the others will like that. So instead of doing my normal thing I am just going to do more summerization I think. The Grantbrideshire arcSo first off I am really digging this game and it does actually solve probably my biggest issue with Odyssey in that game with the whole Spartan and Athens thing, both sides being controlled by the cult, it made it really hard to actually kill any of them because they were being used. Though occasionally they were being used a little too overtly so I would murder everyone I could get my hands on. But as I suspected with this game the battle lines are very clear cut. You have the Vikings...and the English who is rife with Order corruption. Which makes this game, at least so far, more morally clean... Until part of the arc for Grantbridge was killing a priest just for spreading propaganda and butchering a whole hamlet. In the latter case it is kind of justified since it was a supply base but I was like...much ew with regards to the priest. And well then you get to the actual investigation or continuing it. Now I was pretty sure I was right, and I was, but I still wanted to properly look into all the evidence. And I think I wasted an hour looking for the little yellow longboat. And then gave up and ended up being right. And despite my frustrations with the quest and how badly I sucked at it though see sometimes I can still appreciate it and I still loved the quest and how it was handled though overall. I like it that there was a lot of evidence, a lot of little things that contributed to the evidence...even before we knew there was an investigation! See the whole thing with the Wolves. Oh and he killed that one guy which my wife caught. Buuuuuuuuuuuuttt on the other hand it also became kind of obvious because going in on it to and investigating Galin was actually my least likely pick of the three...until he said he had no alibi. And then I was so convinced the game was having me on that I wasted half an hour looking for the incriminating evidence which would've blown him all too hell. Also another brief complaint I have its going to make roleplaying this in the future really difficult because if I play male Eivor just to see different outcomes he would have to be really obtuse not to notice. So then it was off to assassinate Wigmund and even though I am playing Eivor as not really an Assassin I am still really bad at this so far in this game...but then I pulled it off pretty perfectly when getting to Wigmund killed him and then had a neat battle between him and like three guards. Also I think this is one I figured out you had to hold down the button for the bull rush ability... So I had a funny time with my first contract the more elite one was like in Snotinghamshire which is a level like 100 or so zone and I am still in the 50s so I was hoping that A. I could snipe him from across the river because it is right on the boarder with Ledeschire and then B. that the target would be at my level despite being in a high level zone and that C. I could even again snipe him despite that. And well none of that happened and as a bonus he was under an escort! lol. But amazingly enough I still pulled it off because I landed a few shots on him and he bolted. I pursued him, all the way to a high level monasary which gave me some sweats but in the end I still was able to kill him all alone in the woods. A much smaller instance happened back in...I think...no that one would be in East Anglia. Which brings me to the third contract I did, and this game has an interesting take on the Vietnam effect...or the effect of basically having to constantly fight over the same areas over and over again because the enemies keep on respawning. See the contract had me rescue a peasent in a base. The same base as it turned out that I assassinated the first Order member...but to my joy it was still empty of badguys and this was a brand new gaming day. So I am really digging it because yes random patrols should be a thing but actual areas...would be nice if that does not get repopulated, another big win for Ubisoft and might make my next trip to Ledeschire interesting *cough*. But weirdly enough while enemies don't repopulate...doors to puzzles do very quickly. Like within minutes in the same game session. Happened at the Rettae Beureu and happened to a cave to a Roman artificat...really tripped me up too because since it was repaired and the beginning of the tunnel I thought was a brand new area...like to get to Rattae...and I was like 'ok this can't be that one area'...and then it was. And then the exit was repaired too so that is really...weird. My first Anomoly:
So I am shocked I am even having to spoiler this but here we are. I couldn't help but notice what I believe were Isu's talking about what I am pretty sure was namedropped as Odin as the 'mad one'. Which is the same name that Eivor reffered to himself in the message to Layla (or was that Odin? ) Also read something in here which put me onto this... But ever since I have read what I did and with this new information in light I've noticed that 'Odin' looks an awful lot and sounds an awful lot like male Eivor. Now obviously I do not have the full picture yet but I can't help but notice the simularities, and what this might meant. Also since I think I have only seen Odin with female Eivor I do wonder if there is any differences for male Eivor...

There are places in every seasons. In general, South/South-East of Ravensthorpe is Summer/Spring. West and near North is Fall. And the Northmost is Winter. Jorvik storyline is set around Yuletide too.

Talk about bad timing. My sound system died. Oh well, moving to headphones and ordering another set of speakers. Doubt it'll make it before Christmas. Ouch, I know this pain. Happened to me around the Anthem launch. But in my case I couldn't decide what kind of speakers I want. At the end went for some Harman Kardon Soundsticks. It was the look

It was the look I remember when you got those and they do look very cool. Mine died about a year ago and I went from 5,1 to 2,1 for cost reasons but wasn't disappointed TBH but they definitely do not look as cool as yours. At the time couldn't get your Harman ones in Oz except for ridiculous prices.

AccessTheAnimus @accesstheanimusThe Niflheim Gear, Naval and Settlement Packs are now available in the Animus Store of #AssassinsCreed Valhalla So Raven gear with a change of colour and some glowing bits, very unexcited about any of the pay for cosmetic stuff. There is usually one piece that may suck me in but this stuff nup, which is weird because the avaialable stuff in game is fairly ordinary in its looks and there are not too many choices either.
