A quick FYI on weapon pairings and builds.
The choice of your offhand weapon can significantly affect the damage of your main-hand weapon. And in ways that can run contrary to what you would expect, based on their stats. It's doing some calculations based on both weapons, the type of weapons, the perks, and... its own mercurial whims. Same with armor sets, and mixing sets.
The best way to test your builds is, of course, going to Norway and smack around the dummies in the arena.
On top of this, all the rune and perk boosts to speed, melee damage, attack, light damage, heavy damage, etc. have hard limits.
So what I wind up doing is - add a rune, hit a few dummies, add another of the same rune, hit a few more, and so on, until I run into the damage limit of that particular boost. Then onto the next rune or swap out a piece of gear and do it all over again.
Oh, and just a heads-up... boosting your Critical Damage is useless. You're much better off boosting Light Damage, Attack, Melee Damage...

Changed to The Fallen Hero set, the Flaming Sword and a Scyle can't remember the name but it raises your critical chance after a hit or death. First impressions were a bit meh re the Target and shoot an energy boost, despite targeting it missed a lot if it worked at all. Thanks re the rune stuff I have at several Critical Damage Runes over everything. I'll post properly tomorrow don't have time now.

So yesterday did Reda's daily quests and then changed my gear up as per Hrungr suggestion equipping the Fallen Hero armour set and using the Flaming Sword and as my off-hand weapon chose Verica's Sickle which has ignite the weapon after 3 kills as it's skill. But have swapped that out for the Modranhit Seax which Increases Critical chance after a kill. The Flaming Sword is good but the ability it has to shoot an energy projectile at a target locked enemy I found to be really hit and miss in terms of enemies avoiding it. The armour which has the ability to drop a bomb that does damage and knocks down enemies only worked once in six Raids which was impressive when it worked but I expected it to occur more often. The other stat's on the armour are good, Increase Armour, Melee Damage and Weapon Damage. I also equipped the Balhrafn Bow and wont be changing it it is as Hrungr suggested great and looks good to. Every kill increases the damage of the next two arrows by 25% and I use the bow a lot of the raids so it was a killing machine. Re the Raids themselves, they were a bit glitchy, I had a Jomsviking die and I had decided I just wasn't going to care but did revive 4 or 5 but when I returned to Ravensthorpe the game said I had three die which was incorrect. During the raids I had several times that Arbalisters just had arrows go straight through them, one guy i put 5 straight through him to no effect. It was like the game was going no you must get shot by this guys!!!!! I had one raid where a whole Monastery only coughed up Health Rations no Foreign supplies!!!! Anyway it is boring but I need to grind to upgrade the armoury so will do some more today, will stick with the armour for a while and see how the bomb thing works out but I just hate how the pants part makes it look like she has hips and a backside that is huge. Pic's Will take some better ones today

I've tried a few pairings, including the sickle, but I think my favorite so far is the Coil Short Sword in my offhand. It has a nice damage boost. The Flaming Sword is good but the ability it has to shoot an energy projectile at a target locked enemy I found to be really hit and miss in terms of enemies avoiding it. Yeah, I find it works best when approaching a group unaware and unloading then. Once they're on the move, the blasts really don't track moving targets well. The armour which has the ability to drop a bomb that does damage and knocks down enemies only worked once in six Raids which was impressive when it worked but I expected it to occur more often. The other stat's on the armour are good, Increase Armour, Melee Damage and Weapon Damage. The trick with armor is that it drops a bomb when you're hit. So the best strategy is to just run into the middle of a group and let them hit you. Once the bomb goes off, pick up the glowing powerup and finish off whoever's left. With the sword, it'll recharge pretty quickly. I also equipped the Balhrafn Bow and wont be changing it it is as Hrungr suggested great and looks good to. Every kill increases the damage of the next two arrows by 25% and I use the bow a lot of the raids so it was a killing machine. Yeah, that bow deals crazy damage once you get going with it. I've seen over 1,200 dmg on a regular bow shot. During the raids I had several times that Arbalisters just had arrows go straight through them, one guy i put 5 straight through him to no effect. It was like the game was going no you must get shot by this guys!!!!! I've had some... strange encounters with them too. There's something buggy going on there sometimes. Anyway it is boring but I need to grind to upgrade the armoury so will do some more today, will stick with the armour for a while and see how the bomb thing works out but I just hate how the pants part makes it look like she has hips and a backside that is huge. Lol - I noticed that too! I think they swap in male-Eivor's hips!

Hrungr do you know where you get the Coil sword I don't have that but I do have one called The Ring Sword which increases Critical Damage when dodging. I missed that re the armour and being hit, will try it out today. Glad it's not just me with the Arbalist guys. With the rune stacking I have at least three maybe 4 Critical Chance + 10 am is that too many stacked? I just changed the armour look to Huldufolk as it's my favourite.

Hrungr do you know where you get the Coil sword I don't have that but I do have one called The Ring Sword which increases Critical Damage when dodging. Hmm... Did I get this from Reda? It's this sword (it's transmoged though): With the rune stacking I have at least three maybe 4 Critical Chance + 10 am is that too many stacked? Having tested this out on some dummies, this is what I'm currently running with. 3 (+5) Light Attack runes (2 on the bow, 1 on the main hand). And yeah, the runes on the bow improve your melee attacks. The bow is so OP, it doesn't need any more help. 2 (+4) Attack runes (1 on main, 1 on offhand) 5 (+2) Melee Damage runes (1 on each piece of armor) 1 Combo Crit Chance + Speed rune from Francia on my main. 1 Critical Spark rune (Ignite weapons on crit) on my main. 1 Fire Guard rune (Parrying has a chance to create a small fire around you) on my offhand. The AoE effect doles out a lot of damage. 1 Stalward Fury Rune (Increase Attack when close to full health) on the bow. I just changed the armour look to Huldufolk as it's my favourite. Damn, I don't think I've ever tried that one before - looks good! Will definitely check that out...

Here's a better shot of the Huldofolk, I use it with the cape and helmet hidden Thanks for the rune info. will go through my number one set up the Einherjar/Niflheim one. When I upgraded the armoury it ditched that set-up from the number 1 slot???? Are you having any issues with Photo Mode, after I use it ESC button doesn't work anymore???? Means I can't do a normal save etc. and have to exit using ALT F4

I definitely have the same issue. Only I didn't realize it was the PM causing it - thanks! What I've been doing is alt-tabing to the desktop, which then automatically brings up the ESC menu in the game.

Lately, I've been wearing the Jormungandr chest piece. Not sure if I have any of that Jormungundr gear. The Holdufolk stuff I think I got a few pieces from Reda and then bought the Pack from the store. I like it because it looks like real armour and in game it has smoke coming off it. Thanks for the tip re ALT TAB.

It will always be overwriting the slot you have active without confirmations so if you are experimenting you would need to be on a different slot to prevent it from being changed.

Hrungr are you doing the challenges? I have almost finished the assassination ones I am at 76 but wondering where to do the zipline challenge? In Odyssey I can think of several but not in Valhalla. Did one recruitment at Ravensthopre and it was cmoe Jomsviking.

Did one recruitment at Ravensthopre and it was cmoe Jomsviking. I cannot think of the names and I cannot bother to turn on the game to check right now, but if I recall correctly in Suthsexe there is a fort on an island and a bridge to the south of it. There is a zipline there. Now I will just save before jumping and reload my save so I don't have to keep waiting for enemies to get near the rope. I can verify the names when I do the daily quests in the morning. Morning Edit: Directions while I am looking at a map this time. In Suthsexe just south of Lundon there is an encampment on Briggworth on an island in the middle Embert river. To the south of Briggworth that is where you can find the bridge to attack from.

Fishing Tip! I just heard about this, and it's a good one... if you have it. The Khotan Hunter Bow. It generates a gust of wind effect on a hit (short cooldown) which is pretty useless against enemies, but is like dropping a small hand grenade when targeting groups of fish. I went to Skegi's Beard first, then a couple of ponds, and damn... I wish I had this a few hundred hours ago. Two minor downsides though. One - You lose the arrow that you use this way. So, you're gonna run out of arrows eventually. Repton is a good place to replenish your arrows though, if you just run along the outer wall. Lots of quivers there. Two - Your raven will only pick up the fish you hit with your arrow, not the ones caught in the explosion. Which means you're going for a swim afterward.

And while on the topic of tips, here's one you might already know, but just in case...
Scrolls of Knowledge. Stores get a new one every time you gain a level and you can buy one in England (or Ireland) and a second one in Francia. So you can effectively gain 3 levels for every level up.
I've also noticed that stores have been refreshing the SoK without a level-up, but I'm not sure exactly what's triggering that yet.

Hrungr I was at Skegi's yesterday to do some assassinating and also some spear fishing which sounds easier that the bow TBH. I noticed yesterday that the Scrolls seem to be refreshing more often. Did the bodies ever used to disappear in Valhalla? I went to Bolinbroc castle yesterday and punched out over 40 assassinations with only one detection which was a bit of a farce as the guy saw me through a hill but he didn't have a chance to alert anyone due to an arrow in the head. It's a great place for multiple assassinations and is west and north a bit of Skegis, a short horse ride. Since I have been playing again the controls seem to be be less fluid or maybe it's just me and Eivor seems to want to always want to go that extra bit of distance to climb on something or somewhere as if she wants to be spotted. If it isn't just me I wondered whether it is something to do with the Tombs of The Fallen as the controls were weird in there.

Hrungr I was at Skegi's yesterday to do some assassinating and also some spear fishing which sounds easier that the bow TBH. The bow is great in that you can get... 15+ in one shot if they're grouped nicely. Also, being able to bulk-kill fish in rivers and lakes, which you can't with the spear. I was just in Francia shooting fish in the river around Paris, where they tend to cluster up in areas. If anyone's looking to farm silver, that's a good way to go. I noticed yesterday that the Scrolls seem to be refreshing more often. I wish I knew what was triggering it. Time spent in game? 1/day? Did the bodies ever used to disappear in Valhalla? Depends on the bodies and time. I'm still running across the bodies of boss-level enemies I've killed hundreds of hours ago... Sounds like a good spot! My go-to spot has been Portcestre, right about in the middle of the south coast. Over 100 enemies, nicely spread out. And because there are so many, they'll be respawning in before you finish the existing enemies. I seem to have always had that problem, so it hasn't felt new to me.

I will check if I have that bow and will check out Portcestre. Re the controls glad it's not just me, must just be that I had a long time away from the game.

I have these drivers, but didn't know it was supposed to improve ACV, so I ran a benchmark today. I have a 1080Ti & 1440p GSync monitor and I'm getting Avg. 69 | Min. 31 | Max. 146 fps on mostly ultra settings. I'm trying to find a screenshot of an older benchmark to see how it compares. I don't think it's much different though.

I installed the new drivers the other day but have not had a chance to check them out yet. Will try and do it today.

I've been running across some strange "Avenge a Player" quests lately... Three "duds" that didn't lead to anything... Two that were straight-up invisible... And one that wanted me to assassinate this dog. (No.) If you approached him from the front, it said "Pet". If you approached him from behind, it said "Assassinate".

It was bizarre from the get-go too. As soon as I got the mission, the pointer led to a place in the middle of Dublin, where there were no guards. I wander over and see a marker over a dog that's lying down, and I'm thinking... Is this underground? Dog gets up. Assassinate prompt pops up. I gave him a pet, but I had to be careful because he likes to turn 'round quick and it could have easily... wound up poorly.
