Yeah, I won't be playing Mirage. Not because of bad Valhalla views, just because Basim.
Question to the thread generally; when did Odin start speaking directly, obviously and convivially to Eivor?? Is this a Dawn of Ragnarok development?

Is this a Dawn of Ragnarok development? No idea, haven't bought Ragnarok. I was surprised to see how my male Eivor was suddenly talking to the female Eivor. First time she appears in the playthrough. I guess that's an acknowledgement the male Eivor is just an Animus simulation and it was female Eivor all along.

Is this a Dawn of Ragnarok development? For me it is Basim as well, but also sticking with the current approach to the Isu. In the first games you found remnants of their technology as the Mcguffin as a goal, now they are becoming core plot elements and something you interact with. What was in the final DLC was the first time it was approached that specific way, but I took it being Eivor wasn't trying to suppress Odin and when they were in the shadowy realm was when Eivor was fighting to suppress Odin. With Ragnarok it was pretty much the same as the other two times when you took a potion to visit those memories, which going by my thinking for the final DLC was that it was preventing Eivor the ability to suppress Odin. At least that is how it makes sense for me.

The Isu stuff in Odyssey and Valhalla (even without having played Ragnarok) was too many layers deep for me. Me playing Layla living through Kassandra playing a simulation...nah. I had a hard time taking it seriously since even in-universe it wasn't real. I hope they'll back off on that, but I doubt they will. I don't give a flip about Basim, but I remain open-minded about Mirage until we find out more. If it truly ends up being a return to the older games where we sneak around stabbing (proto)Templars in the back, then I may end up getting it.

I've only got Odyssey and Valhalla for reference, so for me, it's just 'the level' for that type of thing, but I get it. It would have been nice to have had some kind of gameplay/story pay-off at the end of each game for the revealing of the Isu stuff.
I'm not going to weep for what happened with Layla. She was bat-shit crazy by Valhalla, but that wasn't really her fault. I just flat didn't like her. Having said that, if the reveals of Origins, Odyssey and then Valhalla had led to some kind of revelation which 'unlocked a long hidden truth' or a new mini-quest or something, I think I would have liked that. As it was, it was just 'go here and get trapped, releasing future protagonist'. That's not so great in terms of a pay-off.

I liked Odyssey better than Valhalla on this front since any connection to mythology was explained to be so EB could comprehend what they were seeing. Besides that, most felt on tract for reality. Valhalla meanwhile was literally Eivor doing drugs so the mythology muddled the reality completely.

If you play the female Eivor Odin appears as male. My guess is that it is a visual aid so you know which is Eivor and which is Odin. Odin is male in all variations. It's established the male Eivor is just an Animus thing and is using the Odin appearance. But the ending for male Eivors feels lazy. Throughout the game you get no indication Eivor is female (even if it's canon). And suddenly at the end your character is speaking to female Eivor. No explanation, no gradual reveal or anything. One-ending-fits-all rush job.

I played Origins and thought it's OK even if main quest was pretty generic (you killed my son, you die bastards) I did love how they showed how the death of their son pushed Bayak and Aya into different directions, how they presented Egypt at least from Bayak's POV is more or less a occupied country, and sliding down the side of a Pyramid that was all cool.
I played Odyssey and this was the first time I played an AC game all the way and it was a very fun game.
I played Valhalla and I enjoyed the most of it, there are some parts of it I didn't care for but I'm glad I finished it maybe some day I'll start a new playthrough.

The thwack of the bow and arrow is so so satisfying Tell me you're using a Predator or Hunter bow without saying you're using a Predator or Hunter bow I liked the Predator bows quite a bit, but found the Light bows really only useful for destroy covers on wells, Cursed Symbols and weak walls that Eivor had to climb to. Very 'pew pew'.

I'm also back to flitting in between this and Guardians of the Galaxy, which I absolutely love.
Big, overwhelming open world and tight, linear narrative action game. Seems like a mix to maintain sanity.

Why give them a chance to duck and cover?

AR with a bit of range and a scope you get the best of both worlds.

I switched between a predator bow and a hunter bow a lot. For those "I am going to reach out and end you" I had a predator bow, but when I might have been in closer combat I carried a hunter bow.

So far I'm loving it, the stealth is fine for me and I like being able to tune the game to my own difficulty settings. Right now I'm difficult exploration and stealth, regular combat. Got killed twice. Once by the old warrior wanting to die, and then by a mean elk.
