I finally got around to watch the leaked gameplay. Few impressions (by far not everything): - It still looks very much in beta. So much stuff is just not polished yet, you can tell. Guess that's normal in this stage and also we don't know how old this build is though. - Generally, it does look very very much like Odyssey in the broad strokes, which is good. I think the general gameplay of Odyssey was great and was hoping for improvements mainly in the details. - I like that the combat already looks a bit more weighty than in Odyssey but there's more to be done in that respect. Personally, I'd prefer if the focus was much more on blocking rather than evasion this time (at least the way I played it Odyssey was al about evasion and this looks very similar). Or maybe make it very dependent on the weapon used (with heavier weapons armor concentrating more on blocking). Also, the didging animation doesn't seem to be quite finished? I thought it often looked like she was just sliding away from an enemy. - The bow seemed to be way to quick though. I don't like the idea of being able to shoot 10 arrows into an enemy that is in melee range while dodging. It should be limited to when you have proper range. But ok, if they keep it like that, I guess I'll just not use it this way and it's fine. - I like the idea of no auto-regen out of combat. Curious how exactly that new system will work, I didn't quite get it in the video. - In the video, abilities like that axe throw seemed to basically have no cooldown, probably an early test build thing. - Looks like equipment management focuses more on upgrading than items (so kind of a step backwards towards Origins), which i think is great. - Fire looked super weird for now. - That shiny line on the ground to guide you to quest markers is hideous but I am fairly sure that'll be optional. - Already the compass is cluttered with icons, make those very customizable please!!! - General atmosphere seemed pretty good, kind of what you'd expect from an AC. - Think I'll play a male Eivor in my first PT, at least in this bit the female VO is not so much my cup of tea. Her deep growly voice seems very forced to me.
Overall, I think it looked very decent. Still a lot of polishing to do but in general it's pretty close to what I expected and want to have.

Food/Rations are how you heal now (and add to the # of heals you can have). The blue pickups off of enemies are rations, and you can see raspberries, mushrooms, etc. scattered about.

This actually appears to be a gameplay change. You build up adrenaline with attacks, but can lose adrenaline by taking hits (and depleting over time). But as long as you have one bar of adrenaline, you can use an ability, no cooldown. So there's a tradeoff. You can't just store adrenaline long term like you could in Odyssey, but you don't have to worry about cooldowns.

Oh, that reminds me, that cinematic camera when riding is a nice idea but it looked completely broken and weird for now. And when you see Eivor riding from the side, the riding animation actually looked awful. So yea, still a bit to do for them in that regard.

It's interesting to see different people's playstyles. I normally just evade the unblockable attacks. I will typically block the attacks that I can, as it staggers them and opens them up to counterattack.
Evade in Valhalla eats up stamina now, so you can't just spam it infinitely anymore. With that in mind, I think blocking will come back in vogue.

Oh ok, that's perfect then. The fact that evasion was free was kinda why I used it so much. So if dodging and blocking now basically costs the same and each have their use against different enemy attacks, that'll do it.

Evior seems to have been using light arrows or a light bow there. It's similar to how the Origins light bow behaved.
Personally I'd prefer the game didn't force me to focus on evade or block and let me do whatever I choose in that moment. But, I guess that's just me
I think block eat stamina too. Cordelia blocking seems to be the main thing that reduced her stamina anyhow.
I also think one of the active replenish your stamina (or some sort of passive combo thingy), because in the boss fight leak it goes from empty to full real fast at some point and it wasn't like the normal stamina regen.

I think the line just appears when you put your mount on "auto pilot", so you can see the path it's going to take.
Well great (not) I find block a nuisance TBH and immersion breaking as I am constantly thinking about hitting keys rather than enjoying the fight, I'd much rather just dodge as hitting space to do that is a reflex for me ever since TW3. If it's going to eat Adrenaline it'll be a pain in the ass for my play style as I tend to reflexively use it to also just get some distance and time.
Also still not really understanding the health regen, please tell me I am not going to have to run around in combat trying to find stuff to heal, that is one of my all time pet hates and just prolongs combat. Did they do that in Origins, I just seem to remember trying to fight those F%^king elephants and running around everywhere but maybe that was to pick up arrows or just to get out of the damn way.
The more I hear about the combat the more I am thinking it will be too much like Origins and I will suck at it and get frustrated.

Basically you have a fixed amount of health potions, but they are called rations instead.
To replenish your ration stash you have to find more, duh. They drop from enemies or can be found as stuff you can eat. If you are in-combat, finding a ration on an enemy insta-heal you for a certain amount if required instead of just adding to your ration stash.
Going by the longer leak, a siege mission will give you a full amount of rations and there is a stash near the boat. So it's kinda like Dragon Age Inquisition with the potion stash + easier in-combat healing if required.
And Origins didn't work like that, so you were just looking for arrows/getting out of the way.

There was an IG video (now taken down) suggesting a Nov. 17th launch date. There's also a few new scenes in this one, so worth having a peek. I expect that with CP2077 launching just 2 days later on Nov. 19th, Ubi might nudge that date a bit.

Fast flowing combat? Wtf are these old school fans smoking? The old combat was mostly slow and predictable QTE prompts.

More seriously, I've read an exchange on another forum and people saying that just prefer cinematic/QTE prompts for combat. Oh and can't viable builds in Origins/Odyssey too.

slimgrin727azarhal I used to love the old combat but when the newer games came out I realised it was simply because it was easy!!!!!! Hell in AC3 some of the QTE's were harder than the combat.
