Dual-wielding two-handed weapons does look fun... And we've also learned that blocking attacks will replenish your stamina. so it's a skill? Thank God. Well found a small temper to my expectations. The combat does look a little janky, when I was watching the Jorraptor stealth video it was the same animation over and over again so that is concerning but something they should fix.

Yeah, I'm more concerned about story and characters than some of the janky combat. The latter you can fix (or at least improve), and they've gotten a lot of feedback on that.

So to assassinate those high level opponents, you do need to pick up a skill. And I noticed this is some of the other PTs... you have a narrower window on your timing to assassinate HL Bosses than you do with lesser enemies.

I think my loathing for QTEs is pretty well known except A. this one is 'optional'...IE you don't get insta killed if you fail and can still fight the opponent and B. this one actually does make a fair bit of sense. Especially with the set up of Assassin's Creed in the last game's where a lot of the guards will like turn around to notice you. Always seemed hinky.

This video shows "Viking mining" (aka smashing rocks with an axes to get ore) Also, there is one of the "glitches in the matrix" Ubi dev talked about, but the player doesn't interact with it. He's a terrible player so you get to see what happens when you die toward the end. So to assassinate those high level opponents, you do need to pick up a skill. ... And I noticed this is some of the other PTs... you have a narrower window on your timing to assassinate HL Bosses than you do with lesser enemies. ... Looks like a fairly low passives skill and people are speculating the difference in size is based on the different in "power" between Eivor and the enemy.

JorRaptor shows off an Animus Anomaly, then talks about (but can't show) how interacting with it summons Layla (who apparently looks quite different/tired) to solve a climbing puzzle. Layla also talks to Rebecca somewhere in there.

So much for “If you kill her, you’re unemployed” note about Victoria in Odyssey then if Layla’s still with the Assassins.

So to assassinate those high level opponents, you do need to pick up a skill. So it's similar to the Enhanced Assassination (or whatever it's called) in Odyssey, then? With timing added as a requirement. Seems like it should be ok.

With timing added as a requirement. Seems like it should be ok. Critical Assassination in Odyssey just increased your damage (via a multiplier) so if you didn't invest in assassination damage you would fall behind still. In Valhalla, if you succeed at the "check" it's a one-shot kill regardless of the HP of the enemy (you can still increase you assassination damage too).

, he's really a fan of the modern day stuff. Looks like the "no side quests" is because they put that manpower into doing "region main quests" and the little world events instead. Confirmation that there are long term relationships in the game (and Bothir's brother isn't one of them). Now the question is if they think Odyssey had long term relationships or not... Confessions are back, ! I missed them in Odyssey.

In all AC games, but Odyssey, when you killed a mark (in Odyssey it would have been the cult members for example) you had a "out of reality" chit-chat with them after confirming the kill where they less or more "confessed" something to you. They were interesting interactions, especially in Origins.

I always feel they're dumb; dying confessions. Worse when you know the throat has been slit. I'd rather something personal was found, like a diary or an object from which the player can infer about the target's motivations / secrets, etc.

How are the AC worlds compared to Bethesda worlds? I mean in terms of pacing in between encounters - and by that I don't just mean combat encounters but ppl to meet and places to discover. Sometimes they go hand in hand altogether but not always. So the new AC games Origins and Odyssey are pretty huge free roam areas of Egypt in Origins and Greece in Odyssey. In terms of pacing you can pretty much set the pace yourself. Odyssey you can't roam wherever you want because the areas are Level gated and so a wolf in one area will be easy to kill but if you wander into an adjacent high level area a wolf will kill you in one bite. You can negate this by leveling up by doing story quests and other side quests in a couple of early areas and once you reach Level 50 I think it is all areas enemies will become L47 to L50 IIRC. Once you get to that level you can pretty much just go wherever you want, whenever you want and if you do an NG+ game when you are finished the main story you are pretty much free to do whatever you want. This PT I have not moved the story past the pretty much the first part and am just roaming around wherever I want doing whatever I want and having fun. Essentially first PT you are best off IMO following where the main story leads you and as you get to those areas clearing everything you want to on the map, the map is covered with different icons that indicate whether they are main story or not and the journal has categories that separate quest types. One's with a black background and a gold exclamation mark are main story, ones with a black background and a white hour glass you can ignore or do to get XP and resources. The world is gorgeous and some of the main NPC's are really well written and play a large part in the game and it's quests and story. I hope that helps. Some scenery shots if you want a look

One thing from Origins I hope they add to future games is the constellations sites. It was neat to learn what other cultures saw constellations as and get the mythology behind them.

Darby McDevitt @darbymcdevittBags of flour. lol I saw an enemy throw dirt at Eivor, so that might be an option instead of the bags of flour. Saying that, early smoke bombs were fireworks and China invented those around 600-900 AD, so some existing in the 9th century isn't that off.
