Should we even be surprised at this point, considering they had things like flying cows? Is there some time in DAI when Cass is being super serious and unimpressed and she's like " >: | Not. At. All" cause my memory says there is and that's what popped to mind rn Deal. With. It. Is what I think you remember.

I was thinking about wrong game.

I suppose that explains the other/the same tall Magister the 'heist crew' is trailing in the other shot. Not to mention the rather 'ahem' rotund Magister woman being carried via palanquin.

I now realise the diamond pattern is actually a ventilation panel to let the poor things breathe. Still it is a better explanation than a Magister on red lyrium steroids. I think it's more that they need to have some sort of way to see where they're going, so they wouldn't accidentally throw Shoulderpads The Magnificent into stuff like that stand with roasted snakes... although, I'd totally do that and then claimed I couldn't see a damn thing anyway Annnnyhooo, I don't think Shoulderpads cares that those poor sods have to sniff his sweaty balls as they carry his ridiculous platform on their own own shoulders That one is barely visible, but unlike Shoulderpads, this one seems to have proportions suggesting he is legit tall and broad-shouldered. In fact, he seems to be built like Cory and Architect was, and we DO KNOW there were more Magisters...

Amusingly, I just realized today who the skull-headed mage from the concept art reminded me of: the Collector from Darkest Dungeon. Just for reference, the Collector is a mini-boss that serves as a random encounter as you travel through the Ancestor's Estate in Darkest Dungeon. He appears whenever your inventory is a certain percentage full (supposedly around two-thirds). While most of the monsters in DD are tied to the activities of the Ancestor, the Collector's origins are largely a mystery — he can appear anywhere in the Estate and has the Eldritch/Human enemy type rather than being classified as an Undead creature. However, the reason he attacks your party is clear: he collects the heads of adventurers, which then form part of his "body." (Kind of like the Cekorax from Tevinter Nights, right?) I have heard theories that the Collector is supposed to represent the King in Yellow, a fictional play that is said to drive anyone who watches it completely mad. The King in Yellow is also referenced in the codex A Compendium of Orlesian Theatre. I know the devs are fans of Darkest Dungeon, so it wouldn’t be surprising to learn there was some inspiration going on there.

Mmm... snake-on-a-stick. The poor things are even alive in the wok... thing there, too. Ugh.
Quick look at finished artwork and I'm inclined to believe they're really inside. There seems to be diamond-shaped part of fabric with holes, most likely to allow breathing. You can even see their shadows. I assumed it was only different fabric ... And I thought Orlesian fashion was weird.

Maybe Corypheus is also being carried everywhere on a teeny tiny litter! He would never! It'd hide his glorious stockings! This is why I initially thought the snakebab was some kind of elaborate bong/hookah. He just blew out some smoke and is filling back up. Maybe he likes his snakebab extra-crispy...? Now I'm imagining heating up coffee or tea on that thing. "Is it hot already?"

That one is barely visible, but unlike Shoulderpads, this one seems to have proportions suggesting he is legit tall and broad-shouldered. In fact, he seems to be built like Cory and Architect was, and we DO KNOW there were more Magisters... No, I honestly think it is the same guy. The figure has the same ridiculously wide outfit, strangely shaped high-backed collar and is around double the height of the soldiers, which is roughly the same amount Shoulderpads is above the people in the market place. I still hope he is the Black Divine. Being carried everywhere so you tower above mere mortals would fit with that role, as would the outlandish robes that likely go with the office. Which could mean the building he is standing in front of is the Minrathous Grand Cathedral and the group in front are probably going to attempt some sort of robbery there. I do hope so. As we were denied the Grand Cathedral in Val Royeaux, I'd really like to see the one in Minrathous, particularly as it is likely re-purposed from an former Old God Temple. I feel sure I read it was formerly the Temple of Dumat but perhaps I imagined that.

I just remembered the idea of some that a female Magister (Magistra?) Sidereal could have been the first broodmother. Though I now I have to think of an overemphasised "lady" part, i.e. an extremely polite blight magistra who invites us for tea to discuss the ramifications of killing all Old Gods or something like that.

Since darkspawn likely existed before the magisters breached the Fade, broodmothers probably already existed as well. Maybe a Ghilan'nain whoopsie?

Is there a case of a female ghoul existing? And by ghoul in this context, I mean someone connected to and obeying the darkspawn hivemind. Not just someone tainted, but someone who is at the end stage of that process. Maybe I'm just blanking, but I can't recall one.
All darkspawn besides broodmothers seem "male", but then the magisters aren't *really* darkspawn. Or at least, they were human at some point, so they already don't adhere to the normal rules of darkspawn. I'm just trying to figure out if we even can have a female darkspawn/ghoul that isn't a broodmother?

She still has her mind (sorta) and free to roam around the darkspawn nest, but she was next to be turned into a broodmother.
