I don’t know how big the sample size is, but it looks like Taash is the least liked companion at 6% according to this poll. Even if Taash was a bisexual Miranda Lawson-like goddess full of sex appeal, if her entire personality was her sexuality it would still be annoying and cringeworthy tbh. For fuck sake even Isabela was a character first and a bi bombshell second. A character's entire personality being only about their sexuality is dehumanizing.

What's that? They're cartoonishly evil and dicking about like the not-Klan? Just generic enemies for the protagonists to mow through - even their their leadership structure has been 8 years decimated, the current Archon has no love for them and per BIOWARE'S OWN CANON, they're apparently on the run/being wiped out as a faction by the events of the Fenris comics, which take place in 9:44-9:45 ---- yet somehow inexplicably they're back to full strength 6-7 years later. And still cartoonishly evil cackling madmen? Ok. I've been banging the drum on this ever since they reappeared in Tevinter Nights, apparently still an effective group after we decimated them in DAI and showed how weak their Elder One was. Even more so if the Inquisitor wasn't a mage, so a mundane and a southerner brought them low. They really shouldn't have got over that, particularly if Calpernia realised what the majority of them really felt about her desire to uplift the slaves. Then in DATV Minrathous (and elsewhere) is crawling with them. It's not as if they are subtle about it either, all dressed up in those face masks and carrying glowing red swords. So where are the Archon and the Black Divine? Where are the Templars and the Justicar's? (At least in Tevinter Nights they were doing something about them and Neve was working with them). Where are the Sicarri? Has the entire elite of Tevinter suddenly gone light headed and started supporting or at the very least ignoring them? So, the only group in opposition are the Shadow Dragons, another group that appeared out of nowhere and wasn't even mentioned in Tevinter Nights (what happened to the Lucerni?). The same is true of the Veil Jumpers, although at least two of their leaders were. I think the Venatori are like cockroaches. No matter how much you bash them and try to eradicate them, the little wretches keep coming back for more. They have about as much depth and subtlety as roaches too.

Your character could even strongly disagree with Zevran's views on sexuality and still he wouldn't go cry in a corner like the Veilguard characters would probably do

So regarding the Venatori and the Qunari. They really distributed each faction for one of the Evanuris. lol The Qunari are working for Ghilan'nain, a demon.
And the Venatori, Tevinter supremacists are working and WORSHIPING Elgar'nan, an ELVEN god. I refuse to believe these devs understand the lore, let alone care about it.

>Isabela is a leader of, or affiliated with, the Lords of Fortune >Taash will pursue Harding if neither are romanced by the player >The Antaam are blighting the dragons on behalf of the Evanuris >More vague memberberries/references to DA2 that implicitly decanonize certain choices from that game (betraying Isabela to the Qunari, for example) >There's a really dumb subboss/offshoot of the Antaam called the Dragon King who is so 2 dimensionally cartoonish that I have no idea what the devs were thinking
First wave of spoilers. A lot of it's really, really dumb I'm watching this and it is extremely dumb and so on the nose that I can't believe Weekes wrote this characater. Remember Dorian's mission? It was nothing great or anything but it was subtle, before the mission he was NOT screaming all the time that his father doesn't accept his sexuality or anything, and yet here it is, Taash will talk about it nonstop. lol Hell, remember Krem? I am not joking, I didn't even notice anything about him, only noticed after I saw the dialogue option to talk about him. Hell Dorian's quest isn't even about his father not accepting him as gay, but about him wanting Dorian to "close his eyes and think of the Imperium" And Dorian being unwilling to do that. Part of it was because he was gay, yes, but as big a reason was because he saw how his parents hated their arranged marriage, and how miserable they became. And he didn't want to inflict that on himself, the woman they had picked for him (whom he had never met) and to any child they might have had. His quest could have unfolded exactly the same way if he was straight. Being gay was part of Dorian's character, but it didn't DEFINE him. I think it's clear now that the current crop of writers care nothing about the lore. And are just writing whatever sounds cool at the moment.

And the Venatori, Tevinter supremacists are working and WORSHIPING Elgar'nan, an ELVEN god. I refuse to believe these devs understand the lore, let alone care about it. Starts insanely giggling again. When did the penny drop? I've been suspicious ever since Tevinter Nights and the various comic series but I'm such a lore nerd so I thought it was just me being hyper critical. Then we started getting information on the game and I got even more wary. Even so, it was still probably just me. Now I feel vindicated. Everything I was afraid of has come to fruition. There is no consistency with the lore, no interesting balance between different factions but with their conflicts being what gets in the way of actually confronting the real problem (which is what they said was the case in 2020). No, the Antaam support one god and the Venatori the other. What the hell? Okay, I can just about see the Venatori getting on board because they are depicted as bat shit crazy individuals (even as far back as TN) who use red lyrium like sweeties. However, the Antaam? Of course, they aren't the real Qunari. No idea what they are up to. Did the Ben'Hassrath go on holiday? Still, the Antaam went rogue years ago, so they weren't following Ghilan'nain then. Any explanation for that? Where is Arishok Sten? Meanwhile, it would seem like all the southerners are oblivious to what is happening up north and the Divine and other leaders are just sitting there twiddling their fingers. It's a double blight with nobs on, you morons.

The destruction and disregard of established lore as it concerns the so called Qunari of Veilguard: What they've done to the Antaam is inexcusable. Even a cursory glance at the lore would have the writer who came up with this idea laughed out of the room. A society that sews the mouths of mages shut. A society that kills people that they witness their mages conversing with, and a society that literally leashes and collars them like dogs is working for the worst 'mages' imaginable. And where's the Dragon King's Armor? Did taash steal it? What does the Triumvirate think of all this? I was lead to believe that the Qunari were all about the advancement of science. Not magic. And now they bend the knee to folks much worse than the nation they've been warring against since they discovered Thedas?
Make it make sense. Please.

I do not understand the logic in pre ordering a digital product, but I must ask those lurking this thread to ask themselves seriously if paying 60$ for this game is worth it. You can buy Tyranny, DAO, DA2, DAI, Greedfall, New Vegas, and so many other solid games with that money - but is spending 60$ *really* worth it? Paying $60 for this game in particular, hard to tell. Paying $60 for a solid game, a true 9 out of 10, or 10 out of 10, is absolutely worth it, though. Besides, a large part of the industry (Bethesda, Actvision/Blizzard, Ubisoft, among others) are charging $70 as the baseline for standard editions of their games. The $60 pricetag is pretty modest for a brand new AAA-game in this day and age (unfortunately).

A question for players who play with French audio. Are there a total of 4 voices (2 male and 2 female) for Rook to choose from or just 2?

I've believed for years now that several people on this forum put way more thought and effort into DA's lore than BioWare themselves, and here we are.

I missed the video. Would someone mind spoiling this "Dragon King" If I understood correctly, and I didn't really its a title in this new Antaam, some Qunari leader with the soul of a Dragon I think? And apparently he took up the mantle because Taash's mother escaped and took her away from this fate. Yes, Taash is a chosen one and that's why she can breathe fire apparently.
Don't know the details yet but the Qunari origin is becoming even more dumb that I thought possible. I honestly prefer the theory that was circulating a few years back when Tevinter Nights dropped. That the modern Qunari are a Vint experiment using elves and Dragons + one of the pools of Brine like in Horror of Hormak. lol
Too much thinking for Weekes I assume.

I have been a big Bioware fan since KOTOR. The Mass Effect Trilogy is literally my favourite game series of all time. I also love Baldurs Gate 2, Dragon Age Origins and KOTOR. DA2 and Inquisition still had lots of good writing too despite some flaws.
Andromeda was the first game where I thought the writing was very immature and weak, like made to appeal to the tumblr crowd. Just awful but since it wasn't made by the main team I thought it was a one time thing.
But holy shit this has to be the worst written Bioware game by far if the whole game has such cringe dialogue (and according to skillup it has). The worst offender is easily Tash, I watched some of the 26 minutes video and it was atrocious. So heavy handed and preachy.
I can't believe this is the same writer who delivered on arcs like Rannoch and Trespasser and characters like Mordin and Solas. The "romantic" scene with Harding is not better, fanfiction writers could do better. The tone is so immature, just like in Andromeda. Getting rid of any player agency is horrible too, you can only be a cliche good guy kissing everyone's ass. How is this an RPG, there is no roleplaying.
Honestly I may be overdramatic but I am just shocked and have been following this forum for some time and had to register to say this. I thought people who whined about the old Bioware being dead back when ME3 or DA2 came out were being silly but I think Bioware is really dead now. For me at least. Maybe the younger generation prefers this

I missed the video. Would someone mind spoiling this "Dragon King" The video in question is still floating around the internet, I doubt it would be hard to find it. Regarding hard spoilers: He's a fire breathing Qunari and what appears to be a sub-boss or off shoot of the Antaam, which itself has defected from the Qun is now blighting dragons.
He wears a really stupid mask and is a mustache twirling villain. We're talking about something so stupid and cartoonish it makes Erimond look like Loghain or Solas in terms of nuance or depth.
He kills or severely injures Taash's mom, probably kills but no confirmation yet

Hell Dorian's quest isn't even about his father not accepting him as gay, but about him wanted Dorian to "close his eyes and think of the Imperium" And Dorian being unwilling to do that. That's actually exactly why the whole "it's fine to be gay, kids" school special vibe annoyed me. The family drama wasn't about being gay at all really. His father didn't disapprove of him because he was gay but because he refused to have children for their sacred bloodline. He could have been straight and his father would have thrown a fit too if he refused to marry and have kids. His father even said he doesn't care who he beds on the side. His whole stance is just your typical nobility stuff. Everyone married people and produced offspring with people they probably didn't even like in real life for ages. The gay drama felt incredibly tacked on for me. Gaider is a good writer and obviously as a gay man this was an important topic for him. But this was already the precursor for Taash imo. I remember back in 2014 getting worried that BioWare would go full on identity politics next. And then Asari pronouns happened. And now we're HERE. I was interested in Tevinter bloodline politics. I wanted to know more about that. Instead Gaider made it about being homophobic with his dad wanting to change him. He found a way to shoehorn this into a world where being gay is normal and not stigmatized and was never brought up by anyone before. I loved Dorian as a character. The drama about his unwillingness to produce an heir which is of course extra unappealing to him as a gay man was super interesting at first. This should have been about Tevinter society. But it ended up being a gay pride manifest and it felt really hamfisted to me. I cringe the same way about all the poorly written girl power crap everywhere now. I saw the identity politics on steroids coming since 2014. DAI was a great game regardless. Dorian had an actual personality, even a controversial one with his stance on slavery. A character with flaws and biases as it should be. He's one of my favorite companions. It was all fine. How his personal quest was handled wasn't THAT bad compared to what we have now. Bioware storytelling has gotten worse and worse the more characters have become spokespersons for the writers. And apparently it doesn't matter how good a writer they wer before, see Weekes and compare Mordin to Taash. It's really frustrating. I want complex characters back with fascinating stories and motivations.

Thinking this whole situation over some more. If it sells poorly, Bioware might be gone. If it sells well, and people discover it's not the game the last two trailers made it out to be, I wonder what happens then. Uproar most likely. Then BioWare points the finger at the various 'phobes and 'ists and leaps upon their soapbox to whine incessantly forever. And they go on to further violate Dragon Age and any other IP they can reanimate.
A post I saw recently had an interesting theory on if it sells poorly. It goes that EA removed denuvo so that they can then point the finger at pirates and justify amplifying and plastering it on every subsequent title that they release in the future. They can cut their losses with BioWare, take the horse behind the barn, and move on to another developer. It makes sense now that BioWare was magically 'meeting sales expectations' months ago when they weren't even in the top 50 on global top sellers, as someone here so helpfully pointed out. It's easy to meet expectations if you have none. Maybe EA doesn't really care if it sells well or not. They've got Madden money after all.
So either way EA can move forward with ever more aggressive 'anti-piracy' measures that hampers your experience("get used to not owning your games"), get ready for more always online fuckery, or BioWare succeeds in tricking enough people to buy their product and they laugh all the way to the bank.
Not completely sold on it, but it is interesting to ponder.

That kind of thinking is, when you're trying to put your political priorities in, you can't tell the story as well. You should never preach harder than you entertain, and I don't like preaching.

But then I remember Carth turning into a chauvinistic pig when you play a female Revan came from him. At least I could threaten him to cut off his ear though. Yeah, but he also wrote Bastila, HK-47, and Jolee Bindo.

At least I could threaten him to cut off his ear though. Yeah, but he also wrote Bastila, HK-47, and Jolee Bindo. Yeah he used to be capable of producing good writing as well. Once. Now he calls longtime fans who have the slightest concern about DAV "tourists"

We're tackling about something so stupid and cartoonish it makes Erimond look like Loghain or Solas in terms of nuance or depth.
He kills or severely injures Taash's mom, probably kills but no confirmation yet Yeah I found the backup on the last page and just finished watching it, just haven't edited that post.
They clearly want me to know Taash is a dragon slayer. They say it five times in that one scene alone.
Anyway, I do agree that it is absurd to find out that QUNARI are working for a MAGE GOD because they want her to make them an army of fire breathers to "burn this land pure". That's interesting but not in the well-written way. I'd like to know what kind of ass pull we'll get for the Venatori being aligned with Elgar'nan now.

I never thought Dragon Age would have to copy plot points from Skyrim of all things, and yet here we are. Taash is Dragonborn.

I appreciate David Gaider a lot and have tons of respect for him. Was every line of dialogue he ever wrote perfect? Of course not, but overall he is a symbol of the great old Bioware to me, and I honestly didn't expect to get so much push back against this opinion but I met many DA fans that really despise him in the past.
