That video should be seen by everyone before deciding to buy the game.... Isabella misgendered Taash so she goes and does some push-ups as a self imposed punishment??? What in the actual F is this?? Which mentally sound person would see this and think this is good? It baffles me... Not to mention the total Isabella's character assassination. The real one wouldnt give two flipping Fs about it and would just laugh mockingly at this fauxIsabella while sneakily stealing her pockets. This is how these people want the world to be. EDIT: also... ... is it just me or is Bellara taking the misgendering harder than the news that two blighted gods are tearing the world apart? Funny, what happens in that spoiler (obviously the second part) is pretty much the direction I always wanted the DA series to go. The plot seems to be getting very close to the mystery of the Black City and the true nature of the Blight, the Old Gods and the Maker. Shame they thought brain dead Marvel humour and political correctness must take precedence over all that.

Bioware started preaching out Inquisition but it was still contained and not too heavy handed. With Andromeda and now Veilguard they care more about preaching than delivering a great game. Both settings lost their uniqueness and feel like 2024 LA now with how people behave. Where is Inquisition preachy in your opinion? Krem was forced and the conversation with him was a bit preachy. I am fine with him being transgender but they dumbed down the Qun to do it and that felt off. He could have just been some mercenary leader with no connection with the Qunari. Now with Tash they are continuing to make the Qunari jokes. I miss Sten and the Arishok. There is no need to make the Qun inclusive all of a sudden. Their whole appeal was how unique and regressive they are compared to the other races.

Here is another unpopular opinion:
If you need to tell players to leave the Hinterlands you've already failed to design the first "level" properly. Why would a player advance to the next (and surely more challenging) level if they can't clear the first one properly?

Their whole appeal was how unique and regressive they are compared to the other races. Hmm, I think the point about retconning the Qun to make a point was misguided, even if I didn't find Krem as a character really preachy at all. These behind the scenes takes are always super interesting to me but based on what do you say it? From where do you get enough information to form this kind of opinion? By following the last four release histories. Stories of troubled dev cycles repeating. Seeing Hudson bailing the projects early before they collapsed. He got quite good at it, though he hasn't bailed his current one, yet. MEA was somewhat of a tell tale. Bioware tried to make something new with procgen - the early Starfield, but it was too bad to be shipped so Walters had t0o step in and he applied the DAI formula to ship it. DAI was already trying to make something more open worldish but the way the "maps" were done was telling: They had level designers but not world designers. Just making bigger levels just isn't sufficient for making open world strides. No offence, but it seems like pure speculation and I'm not really convinced. It might be true but there could be many other explanations... I was hoping for something a bit more concrete.

Well, I'm glad I didn't preorder, and waiting for more info was one of the best decisions I made regarding my money, I don't need to be preached at or forced to go along with "the message". Also what kind of messed up twisted message that scene with Isabella is sending, that an apology can't even be sincere unless you physically flagellate yourself over it? I'm good but this is not for me, thanks for the memories Bioware.

I would prefer to be forever stuck in the Hinterlands than to see Taash doing push-ups any time of the day.
Inquisition is looking better and better since the worldstate debacle, and even more so since the last two days. lol

I think one of the reviewers made a valid point about how stupid some of the scenarios are with regard to a quest where you are meant to be secretly infiltrating a Venatori cultist meeting: So, the team are meant to be in disguise, yet whilst the majority of the attendees have their faces covered, you and your team are walking around with your faces on view. This is daft from two perspectives. Firstly, you stick out like a sore thumb that you are not one of them. Secondly, likely your faces are known to some of their cult by now, so someone ought to recognise you. How ridiculous can the writers and designers be? Could they not at least make you wear a hood for that mission? (Even if you normally have headwear toggled off). Come on, let's at least have a bit of genuine role playing. It's a far cry from the old BG2 days when you actually had to infiltrate a Drow city magically transformed to look like a drow, had gear that was drow and you had to be careful to behave like a drow. Now they just put you in an outfit that looks vaguely like you belong and that is it. The mission became even more absurd when someone challenges you but Rook's only response is "er, um", so Neve steps in and pulls the whole "I'm a Magister, do as I say", shtick. And the guard just goes "Okay" and that is it. I thought the security at the Conclave was bad. These cultists are so incompetent they deserve to be taken down.
I say this as someone whose task at a function held by my company which had an open bar was to ensure no one got in who hadn't been invited. I had sent out the invitations so I just memorized the guest list and then checked the name badges on the door. It was that simple. Oh and in case you were wondering, there were at least a hundred on that guest list. Okay, so I have something of a photographic memory but that is why they used me for the task. Tevinter has a floating security system with strobe lights that focuses on anyone they think shouldn't be there and yet these Vints can't come up with a simple magical system for detecting infiltrators who are walking around with their faces on show? Give me a break. I wonder if that might have been a conflict with the helmet hiding feature. Benefit of the doubt and all that. I've seen some screenshots about that imply that you will have to do companion quests (or other side activities) before you are able to continue with the main story (presumably the final mission?). Like '' we won't be able to face the gods with other worries weighing us down '' etc. Like I have to first go through Taash's ridiculously vain, lame and blatant gender journey mission before I can face the unbelievable threat before us? I sure would hope that isn't the case and whatever side stuff you have to do to progress isn't related to the companions, because what if I just don't like a companion enough to do their personal missions? Feels like you are being shackled to your '' found family '' if that's the case. There were already reviewers who said they didn't do all the companion stuff so I would assume you can overlook it if you want. Even in ME2 they said they need to have a clear head before the suicide missions and you could still ignore all their missions.

Same. After doing a third play through I changed my mind and decided it's an overall good game, just not close to what came before. But so far from what we got seems to still be leagues above the Veilguard

I was already sceptical but the launch trailer seemed hype and most reviews were positive Now I know they were probably paid off by EA. No way does a game with such bad dialogue deserve such good reviews. I also won't be wasting my money on this, thats for sure

True I always thought Inquisiton while very enjoyable was probably the weakest DA game. I liked most of the companions and story missions but didn't like the open world at all and Cory was a joke. But compared to Andromeda and this shit it suddenly looks like a great game. At least it still had an overall mature tone and wasn't filled with bad fanfiction level dialogue and you could roleplay more.

Fair enough but it was the first time where it seemd like Bioware changed the lore to push some message. I think his character was still fine but could have been handled in a more natural way. Looking back it feels like forshadowing for Veilguard's preachy nonsense imho

I have another: Action rpg work better with guns. Magic and swords just doesn't cut it if you don't add some more detail. Probably FromSoftware has it down better.
Yeah I already hear you calling out Starfield. Hm. I think letting go of the V.A.T.S. was probably not the best idea. I'm thinking Warframe-like characters and gameplay would be great.

Yeah for sure, and for the record, I'm not blaming anyone, and while I don't have a horse in this game, my assumption is that there isn't really one person that is the main culprit in the failure of certain Bioware games to deliver on their promise. But like I said, I barely know anything about the beyond the scenes of these games, especially post Gaider era I think the Doctors leaving tore a vacuum that never was filled properly. That is likely on EA - then again: good games are made by inspired people and those are hard to come by. They tend to rather try their own thing than climb corporate ladders.

Yeah I think the Doctors leaving was the biggest change and you really feel it after that. And some days I think to myself damn you why did have to go and do something as useless as literally saving people's lives instead of making more video games for me!!!!11 but than I think that A. "Come on dude get over yourself" and B. If they don't care for doing that anymore forcing them to won't lead to anywhere good.

We should have a pinned list of who has now bailed on the game or something, lol.
I haven't read those endgame spoilers that seem to have done it for some people. I really want to be surprised by just how bad exactly the writing is. I won't be paying for this game either anymore. This leaves me with two options.
Man, I hope this game goes down in history as the worst written modern audiences game ever made. It's just so very fitting that the title should go to BioWare. They've worked hard to get there for 10 years! I honestly can't imagine how to do any worse than what I've seen in reviews. And those were just snippets and I'm already in stitches. This is the best unintentional parody ever. I can't wait for the meme machine on this one. (Yes, I'm a gleeful little goblin sometimes when I feel like it's well deserved ridicule.)

Also what kind of messed up twisted message that scene with Isabella is sending, that an apology can't even be sincere unless you physically flagellate yourself over it? It's sick. I was kind of looking forward to playing a video game this weekend. Might pick up Frostpunk 2 instead.

I have to admit that I do find it peculiar that nearly all of the examples of terrible writing stems from Taash's story. I wonder what the other companions have in store. It can't be as bad. No way.
Edit: My original post was too spicy apparently.

We should have a pinned list of who has now bailed on the game or something, lol. I'm nothing if not commited to my own stupidity. Veilguard probably going to take me through all the stages of grief. I was always horrified by the whole tearing down the veil, I was always hoping they wouldn't do it...but nah, tear it all down. I don't care anymore. Completly reboot the setting have the Nug Age, and go on without me after this one.

Funny how I thought Taash might actually turn out to be the best most nuanced companion because Weekes wrote her. Was hoping she'd charm me like Karlach. Sigh. (Btw I love how my phone keeps correcting her name to "Trash".)

Also what kind of messed up twisted message that scene with Isabella is sending, that an apology can't even be sincere unless you physically flagellate yourself over it? It's sick. I was kind of looking forward to playing a video game this weekend. Might pick up Frostpunk 2 instead. I see Persona 5 is on sale on Steam. Might get that instead.

Yeah. It looks like someone's deranged revenge fantasy put to screen.

I have to admit that I do find it peculiar that nearly all of the examples of terrible writing stems from Taash's story. I wonder what the other companions have in store. Taash and Bellara, it seems.
