The Blighted status effect has to be the most contradictory thing in DAV. It's like Thedas is experiencing a Soft Blight of sorts
That's another little thing that bothered me every time I ran through a blight pool. I know it's a gameplay mechanic, but the lore implications annoy me.

We've had 3 games telling and showing us that if you get the Blight there are only two possibilities: certain death or becoming a Warden (if you have the luck of having them around). That they reduced it to a simple status effect that can be shrugged off via antidote/waiting some seconds like a common poison is just preposterous

The Blight was ABSOLUTELY retconned in this game. It doesn't even affects plants as it used to anymore, let alone people.
DAI showed us an entire desert that was caused by all the tainted blood spilled during the Second Blight in Orlais. The Western Approach used to be green, even the codex talks about how things have changed drastically since then.
Veilguard shows us a blighted village where we simply pop the bubble that is the source of the Blight afflicting it and suddenly flowers will be allowed to grow there again. What's more bizarre is that a Grey Warden drops that on us.
Then we have Bellara/Neve being cured after being ifected by Elgar'nan. Red eyes, black veins and everything, they're dead yes? NO. As soon as the source, Elgar'nan, is dead, they're cured.
So don't worry about it. lol

Regarding what's going on in the south The more I read about this game, the more convinced I become that, if another DA game is made, it should completely ignore Veilguard as some story Varric made up, and decided it was too terrible to publish. Maybe it should open with Cassandra noticing it in a wastebasket and asking Varric 'What's this?" And him replying "Oh, just some stuff I jotted down and the story got away from me. It's terrible, Seeker, really. Don't read it, or you'll lose respect for me" Cassandra: *disgusted noise*

Someone posted early companion concept art for Veilguard (there aren't any spoilers, it's just concept art of potential companions): www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/s/DYQM6pKMEr 2/3 of the companions were scrapped, the rest were re-done except for Harding. I guess the initial story Bioware had in mind was completely different than the end product. All that wasted potential makes me sad, at least the game was singe player in the end. although Imshael as acompanion would be a questionable choice ngl That is such a missed opportunity those characters just from the designs and outfits and stances just oozes confidence and charisma

Long time lurker, first time poster - had to join to engage in the criticism tbh. I bought the game for some ungodly reason, mostly because I had to see for myself (and went in with 0 expectation), and I'm in the middle of the final stretch now (just got the pre-final boss romance scene with Emmrich, who I feel was created in a lab to appeal to me and force me to buy the game) so I'll probably post more in depth thoughts once I'm done after work today.
It's...I'll be fair and say there are positives, and there are the bones of something decent there. Having done the companion quests I actually quite liked Bellara (probably because her anxiety and guilt is relatable) and there were bits of Taash's quest I thought worked, and I couldn't stand them when they were introduced. But it's just that - the potential of something decent that doesn't get appropriately executed. I have turned my brain off to play it so I can ignore the lore and tone issues but even then the writing is obviously not good.

Just got Lucanis and I find it hilarious how little impact Jaws of Hakkon actually had. That dlc dropped the bombshell that there was a way to evict a spirit out of a mortal body without killing the host, including mages, and apparently the Inquisitor just... never told anyone that the barbarians knew how to do it. Nor how to do it.

But I won't give in to temptation, I'll occupy my thoughts with my actual Bioware crush Miranda Lawson, which starred in my absolute favorite game ever. "We'll bang OK" must ALWAYS be paired with "Good Game".

I think they took the '' MMO fetch quest '' criticism too seriously from Inqusition and over-corrected in Veilguard. In Inquisition you would pretty naturally just run into interesting things and events, while in Veilguard you don't really just bump into things to do but have to initiate quests before things appear and paths for further exploration open. Like there are no dragons you just happen to come across, or haunted mansions or red lyrium mines. And even with the ambient NPCs in Treviso and Dock Town, the maps feel more barren than ever, really.

I'm a Garrus fangirl from way back, Blackwall being a close second - probably why I did find myself actually enjoying Davrin through the game but I did miss having some more moral ambiguity and complications in this game, lol. I just want to replay ME 1 & 2 now. I get the feeling with Rook they went "well everyone just plays Paragon with the genuine occasional Renegade interrupt, right?" It just comes off toothless.

Just had the 1st personal quest with the veil jumper... I DON'T CARE about their sob stories! My character isn't leading a team of professionals; he's herding a bunch of traumatized kids! Seriously, is this what passes for character building nowadays?!? It's so tropy, so contrived, so banal. It's not just the dialogues, it's the whole therapeutic tone. He hums at the appropriate moments, offering comfort, cozening up, cuddling and mewling...

Why though? It's his personal account, Weeks doesn't owe replies to anyone. It's good that Weekes engages at all.

He was perfectly happy talking about Veilguard then started having a meltdown all because of something that doesn’t involve him did not turn out as he thought. He also should not be speaking of divisive issues, even on his own personal account, during a game launch as that invites unnecessary controversy. It’s unprofessional and that’s reflected in the quality of Veilguard.

ya'll may be disturbed by this but I think I overall like the game. The Rook dialogue has massively improved in range, I don't really know why they started with such stilted options at the start. "Say nothing" should also have been an option for like, nearly every conversation. I still haven't found much to explain why the Antaam are doing what they do in Treviso. I haven't finished Act 1 so maybe there will be better explanations but blighted blood magic mind control seems to be what they're using to hand wave some of the obvious nonsense but that's just my impression. And they used that excuse with Clarel and the wrdens of orlais with the false calling so it's not like they haven't used this before.
But yeah. Right now I move my 3 to 3.5/5. I may rate it 4/5 by the end of this, especially if they ultimately give me strong companion interactions and a romance worth swooning for. The bones for such are there. If they actually give me lore explanations I can buy, it could be something I rank as high as I rank Inquisition. Origins>DA2>>>DAI>DAV gervaise21

Weekes was a bit of an ass when the worldstate debacle became public and Bioware began to address it. But he was not the only one, Epler and even Mary Kirby were giving excuses for the import of choices being reduced to 3. That he's quiet now? Tbh I don't care, what is he going to say anyway, "sorry I'll do better next time?" lol
