Regarding an end game choice I still find it incredibly silly that you have to sacrifice either Davrin or Harding. It feels very forced, because the entire reason for this outcome seems to be so Rook can feel the weight of regret, while they are stuck in the fade prison Solas got out of and left Rook in after the sacrifice of Davrin/Harding, all in order to create this parallel between Solas and Rook. But that whole fade sequence was kind of a let down to begin with, as I feel like even Inquisition is better at handling the responsibility and burden of leadership.
And what's worse, is that Lucanis fails to get a hit on Ghilly AGAIN, gets trapped by her tentacles so Davrin or Harding needs to distract her and get impaled by her tentacles so that Lucanis is able to break free and finally land the hit, while Davrin/Harding die. Third times the charm I guess, but I thought it was laughable how amateurish they made Lucanis look, failing twice in a row. Big spoiler for the end I'm romancing Harding, and If I ever manage to finish this game, she's a sacrifice i'm willing to make. I can't deal with Davrin death scene with Assan plunging into some abyss after him. Cannot deal. Nope. Do not want.
It seems the main romance scene happens after that boss fight, so yeah..my Rook is going to stare at a wall or a dead body.
There's no burden of leadership in this game, the world is ending and that's the team of "expert" (lol) you're given. I aren't no miracle worker.
There's no parallel between Solas and Rook. I've been hitting Solas is an asshole every chance i got and I got lectured by Morrigan about it. Poor Solas iuWU
Mythal taking responsability for Solas action makes me want to vomit. Yes you can redeem Solas because really poor baby not his fault, a woman forced him. Hate her, yeah. That woman who can get murdered 3 times already. What a bitch.
Griffons can fly, though. I'm sure it is still alive.

End game + companion quest spoilers. I genuinely do think that Harding's sacrifice is the more reasonable and fitting one, especially if you tell Harding to embrace the anger of Titans. She seems to have real anger and hatred towards the Evanuris and what they did, and her dealing a decisive blow against Ghilan'nain is the revenge she deserves, even if she falls down doing so. There's also this moment during the conclusion of her quest where she looks into the distance as The Oracle whispers to her, looking determined and mentally prepared to do whatever it takes. Honestly, Harding's death made me like her as a character more, because it was such a gloves off moment for her. She got the most Dragon Age ending one could think of, and for the humiliation ritual her writing suffered throughout the game, this moment salvaged whatever was left of her.

I don't have the game yet, but I have watched the Ben-Gun no commentary, no companion quests completed, play through on YouTube. I found the ending very satisfying. I treated myself to their video of all the endings including the secret one. I will buy this game on the first decent price reduction because I now know what to expect, and the choices I have to make to get my finale of the Dragon Age Series. It won't be an everyone survives the suicide mission because they all will do 'whatever it takes' to save Thedas. (There maybe a couple of characters who survive because I'm a softy at heart.) Thank goodness that this thread was trying to prepare people for possible disappointment. I came back to the BSN looking for updates on The Dread Wolf to be greeted with a title change to The Veilguard, and then the release date news, and everything that followed. What people wanted in their wildest dreams, myself included, could never have been achieved, but I never expected to be treated as a child, talked down to, and served up a Rook who is "nice" and never "nasty" because they're just a bland hero. (Background: I am in my seventies, I play Destiny 2, Warframe and Elder Scrolls on line. I always played MET as a Renegade who takes the Paragon choices to achieve their mission goals.) I'm now going back to reading mode.

Someone posted early companion concept art for Veilguard (there aren't any spoilers, it's just concept art of potential companions): www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/s/DYQM6pKMEr 2/3 of the companions were scrapped, the rest were re-done except for Harding. I guess the initial story Bioware had in mind was completely different than the end product. All that wasted potential makes me sad, at least the game was singe player in the end. although Imshael as acompanion would be a questionable choice ngl Wow, these characters all look great. What happened?? Did they fire everyone who knew how to design beautiful armor or what? Yesterday I received my first Lord Of Fortune armor and I had to laugh so hard how hideous it is. I have gone back to using the starter rags as transmog because in over 20h I have not found a single armor I didn't find ridiculous and ugly AF except the veiljumper light armor. But it's immersion breaking to run around like an elf as a LoF. How do you even fuck up pirates this badly? I want these companions and these outfits. I want to look at my companions and my Rook and not laugh out loud. It's like one of these fashion show absurdities nobody would ever wear in real life because most people wouldn't be able to properly move. The outfits look like the crazy absurd outfits the people of the capital wear on The Hunger Games

These actually look like what you'd expect in heroic fantasy game: strong, confident, sexy adults ( instead of these cringe, infantile self inserts). I'd trade all of Veilguard crew for Calpernia alone. What happened here? Did whole new dev team took over and redesigned everything? I remember, and it was a while back ( around 2016?), there was a small article from one of leading developers working on the game, still in pre-production. I can't remember word-for-word, but the general impression ( besides "best project I've ever worked on yada yada yada") was something more Dragon Age II scale, heavily centered on companions and choices&consequences, and that you would basically run a small organization that would try to stop Solas and his network, all across Thedas, some good amount of detective work. Not sure if Inquisitor was intended to be protagonist or not.

Griffons can fly, though. I'm sure it is still alive. Oh you sweet innocent! No, I'm pretty sure he's dead. Went down with his beloved Warden as they always do. To be honest, if he did survive then it would be manipulating your emotions for nothing. Like a Disney movie when there is always what seems a noble death at the end and then, surprise, they aren't dead really. We just wanted you to feel sad for a few minutes but it's okay.

Yes, the best assassin in Thedas keeps missing his mark until the narrative says he doesn't. It is like they over compensated for people saying he was a Mary Sue in Tevinter Nights. The whole thing was so contrived. At the very least they should have made it something different, like someone else volunteered to strike with the dagger, because he messed up the previous time, and they failed so he had to rush in and save the mission.

Not sure if Inquisitor was intended to be protagonist or not. Sadly that was Joplin, the version that got canned when they switched everyone to getting Andromeda and Anthem out the door. Then instead of just resuming where they left off when they went back to Dragon Age, EA thought it would be a great idea to have Anthem with Dragons, so they messed around for the next 3-4 years on a multi-player "live service" game before they managed to convince EA that they would be better reverting to single player. I think it was Mike Laidlaw, who had already left the studio (probably because of the decision to drop Joplin) that said he was sad that game would never be made now because he thought it would be awesome. I think the artwork gives you a flavour of what he meant. It's all water under the bridge now. Joplin will never be made and DAV is what we were left with.
