Dragon Age The Veilguard Criticism Thread (formerly Skepticism Thread) [Spoilers]

The real test will come in a few weeks when everyone's had their fair shot at this title. Sales are not the true concern at the moment. I just need to know how much or how little Dragon Age is in this title for sure. Though I must admit, I do not like what I've seen and what I'm seeing. It looks every bit as bad as some of us feared. And I'd be lying if I said I haven't made up most of my mind, but I'm willing to leave just a bit of it to see if good ole BioWare can come through.

ah yes reviews. They mean nothing to me. I do watch them though, not completely, but I also know it's my review of the game that matters. If I like the game, I like the game. Not because a review(er's) said they liked it.

He really likes the game, but that's, as it appears, because the things I am mostly concerned with - roleplaying with dialogue and tone - don't seem to matter to him all that much, because he does mention the flaws that subtract a lot for me:

"It's basically impossible to be mean to literally anyone"

"You can't be like: "Hey there's a world-ending problem, I don't care about your personal problems right now.""

So this is a really "safe" game, if you want, and as I mentioned in my first post in this thread, it is likely to break the game for me in the end. I will hate the combat but that's never primarily why I played these games, but being able to play different types of personalities is the essence of a roleplaying game for me. And it appears DAI won't let us do that.

That's fair. Will be interesting to see how pre release leaks (and the release itself obv) vindicates or dismisses his authenticity 

To be honest, I doubt we're going to interact with the real Qun at all, or at the most just one of their agents on the mainland. The Antaam have gone rogue. I'd still like that explained to me how that occurred but I'm not hopeful we will get a satisfactory one. So, the "Qunari" occupying Treviso aren't really Qunari at all but Tal'Vashoth. Don't know what has happened to the other half of the Antaam in Tevinter but perhaps they will clarify on that one too. Is Sten dead? Was that why they rebelled? Or was he upset with Par Vollen for disowning the Viddasala. She couldn't have conducted a viable takeover of the south with their co-operation. The Antaam were all dressed up for conquest and nowhere to go. So they headed for Tevinter mainland instead (at least that is what Trespasser said) which made sense. Then Tevinter Nights said they did so without the authorisation of Par Vollen and one of the stories had an agent of Solas trying to escalate the conflict by bringing in Par Vollen. I assumed that was because they were getting a bit too close to him, as Charter said they knew more about his movements than anyone but were no longer co-operating with her initiative (hardly surprising since clearly they were thick with Solas spies), which turned out to be a good move considering what happened to everyone else at her meeting.

What disappoints me was that there was a really interesting set up there with regard to the hunt for Solas, with several interested parties (the Ben'Hassrath; the Sicarri and the Executors) all wanting to stop him for various reasons and they just dumped all that and cut to the chase with his ritual. Very much a case of what might have been, particularly considering none of the three I have mentioned would appear to feature in DATV.

I'm starting to think maybe I purchase Hogwarts Legacy for 18$ instead...and wait for a price drop.  In a month it'll be half off...not that I care about the cash but if they're going to put their agenda first I should at least penalize them for it.

Like I already had my fair share of criticism for Dorian's personal quest but at least that was decently framed from the point of view of a medieval-inspired magical fantasy world. This is just stupid lol.
