You're okay with publicly debasing someone who misspeaks or says something you don't like? Okay, then. Remind me never to address you in public. I might say something you don't like and end up in a literal pillory. Speaking of melodrama. If you think my pointing out a logical fallacy that equates flagellation to someone doing a few push ups to reinvigorate or clear their head after making an oopsie is grounds for you not engaging with me anymore, your prerogative. No skin off my nose. But I do have to chuckle at the fact the past 10 pages (if not more at this point because this thread is going fast right now) have had multiple posts attacking the writers and wanting the studio to close down but me laughing at melodrama is what is going too far. That's not skepticism, that's just being unpleasant. And no, I'm not a Positive Polly but I'm capable of criticizing both what I don't like and feel doesn't make sense about the game and the people that seem to want to twist things to what's, let's say, not really real. Forcing ANYONE to perform public humiliation, no matter how minor, over a misspoken word is petty, vengeful, and rather despicable,. I go so far as to call it cult-like behavior. Chuckle all you like at the "melodrama" and I'll chuckle all I like at the Schmooples thread where everyone is all "must consume product then wait for more product to consume". Now THAT is unpleasant.

Obviously flagellation doesn't = push ups, but it's a very unhealthy mentality to have and the example shouldn't have to be explained, it reminds me of the hyper religious that have to punish themselves. Isa is obviously Taash's friend and didn't misspeak out of maliciousness, a simple I'm sorry kitten and then a correction should suffice, especially since it all seems new for Taash. Not only that, but it's insulting that Isa then makes it a big deal by schooling Bellara, who even asks what if the apology is sincere. Thanks for the laugh though.

Weekes is literally an activist writer. It's no wonder why Taash have these interactions. Weekes went from writing Mordin and Solas to Taash, what a downfall.. I’ve felt for a long time it was a case of can write but needs strict direction. Mordin in me2 is so great because weekes was able to find an angle to write him but things about mordin such as being pro genophage was outside weekes remit of control. Solas was conceived pre weekes and had heavy gaider input too right?

That video should be seen by everyone before deciding to buy the game.... Isabella misgendered Taash so she goes and does some push-ups as a self imposed punishment??? What in the actual F is this?? Which mentally sound person would see this and think this is good? It baffles me... Not to mention the total Isabella's character assassination. The real one wouldnt give two flipping Fs about it and would just laugh mockingly at this fauxIsabella while sneakily stealing her pockets. Regarding Izzy She called it pulling a 'Bharv', and describes it as a punitive measure and way of apology. I wonder how far that extends. So If you go on a mission and get a bunch of your men killed, because you were too busy day dreaming about pronouns do you do a 'quick ten' and keep it pushing? Or do you do ten for every man that died? I wonder. And what of the people who aren't physically capable of doing a 'Bharv', what happens then? Ye more like pulling a "Barf".... That would make more sense.... Utterly insane.

I still don't understand how they survived Anthem. EA is not a kind master. They kill studios for less. So Anthem must have sold enough too. Bad quality/bad reception/bad reputation doesn't bother EA. As long as they make a profit they couldn't care less it seems. It seems like this is exactly the case, which is rather expected. EA does care about reviews somewhat, although clearly not as a priority metric. I'm also puzzled of very low number of reviews. Somebody wrote that they distributed hundreds of pre-release copies. There has been about 50 reviews overall, give or take 10 in either direction. Where did these "hundreds" of copies go? Aren't you supposed to write something up?

Since it gained some traction and belief in this thread, it might be worth mentioning Grummz of all people shared that obviously fake NDA (you know, with the cursor visible and saying Last Stand are in 'San Fransisco') and Colin Moriarty has called him out on it lol.

Yeah, well I WOULD tell her to stop, even if it meant getting shanked. Because such behavior is creepy af and I'd be embarrassed as hell if someone felt obligated to do that unless they were guilty of an actual crime. And the fact that such ritual humiliation is being portrayed as a GOOD THING is extremely off-putting.

And the fact that such ritual humiliation is being portrayed as a GOOD THING is extremely off-putting. Indeed so. It's not an in-world thing but a matter of writing. I am angry that the writer chose to do this to her. In-world, it would be nothing but a character quirk, but since it's clearly out of character with the Isabela we know it's a case of "change an existing character created by someone else to make her punish herself as I see fit."
And that I find utterly disgusting. It's the same narcissistic hubris that makes these people destroy worlds they have not created. Damn it, if you want a punching bag for your vengeful hate, create your own.

It's not surprising. Remember these are two different teams, and the ME team doesn't have an activist as a writer in the lead position. Like I said before, the fact they have Mary DeMarle in that lead writing position. Gives me a lot of hope. Yeah... for example they didn't join the social media mass migration from X to Bluesky. Funny how they mocked you know who for making a seperate platform, now they do the same because they just hate different opinions that much lol

From the handful of Non-Binary people I spoke with at work about it, they say it's because "tomboy" and "feminine man" are problematic according to them. It's apparently part of the outdated language that "needs to go away", according to them. I don't understand, why are tomboys of all things "problematic" according to them? And most importantly, by what right are they the judges of what is considered problematic, specially of things that neither actually are nor have anything to do with them? Again....you're asking the wrong guy. I agree, LawBringer; but I try to avoid getting in the middle of things like this usually.

Where is the forcing? The spoiler I read said it was self imposed. I read this as an implied correct reaction since this game is teaching people how to behave. You can call this conspiracy territory if you will. That's fair, I guess. But stuff like that really gives me the creeps. I agree with Onecrazymonkey1 that this very cult like. A lot of things are now surrogate religions. Militant vegans, health freaks of all kinds, and now identy politics. They try to impose their moral high ground on everyone, same as religious fanatics tried to cure gay people with electric shock therapy and the like. It's now upside down. Human beings just like doing that. I'm not exempt from that. Everybody has their thing to feel superior. Just annoying AF when it ruins storytelling and art. I want nuance, not some simplistic fanatic bullshit.

No need for background checks into past behavior, the source is usually looked at closely and or people who have received these NDAs, because Mattys would have been the same as a hundred others, would just come online and say it's fake

c Forcing ANYONE to perform public humiliation, no matter how minor, over a misspoken word is petty, vengeful, and rather despicable,. I go so far as to call it cult-like behavior. Every day we learn a little more how deep the rabbit hole goes it seems... But never mind that, tomorrow the * real* reviews will start trickling in and then we'll have some true entertainment for our pains.

The one thing I'm getting real tired of as of late is how some people in the excitement camp decided that the best way to explain why they think the Veilguard is gonna be a good game is by explaining how the old games are just as bad if not worse.
I can't think of a single criticism of Veilguard to which I didn't see some version of this retort which I find to be extra sleazy a lot of times.
Oh you think it's not dark enough? Well here is one Goofy scene from origins that proves neither did it!
Oh you think DA2 Qunari are the best? Well actually it's just the same model copy pasted and no female Qunari so it sucks.
Oh you don't like the character designs? Well look at DAO! This (15 years old) game is uglier!

Gervaise if you have a somewhat good internet connexion, just play on Geforce now. You'll have to buy the game and pay a monthly fee (like 20 euro for high quality graphic or something) you can cancel the thing after one month. Veilguard is free on GeForce Now if you buy 6 months. Only makes sense if playing lots of other games on it though. I wish I could just walk away from this train wreck. But I can't even not finish the trashiest horror movie, I still need to know who of the people I don't care about survives... I hate unfinished storylines. And if I'm going to subject myself to this kindergarten circus I might as well play it myself and not just watch other people. I'm going to hate play this... But I cheer for everyone who's decided this game isn't worth their time. Because I'm sure it won't be for any of us. The writing is worse than anything I could ever have imagined, and I thought after Andromeda I had a pretty good idea what to expect. How do you even take the criticism for the trans character in Andromeda and then go "we should totally be even more on the nose and have an entire companion be about nothing else". Fucking hell, how much brain rot does it take? Probably a little more than the amount it takes to Hate Buy a product and thus tacitly endorsing said product in the eyes of the company

You have just described r/dragonage. They even confined the worldstate discourse inside of a cage for a month.

Where is the forcing? The spoiler I read said it was self imposed. I'm not going to tell her what to do if she wants to do something, she'd shank me if tried. And there's a spectrum between religious fanaticism and a few push ups. She probably does more exercise getting out of bed than that. This all seems like a lot of silly over-exaggeration. Ok, now you're actually saying something I agree with, having more options to roleplay and trying to steer a scene in a different direction depending on what the character you're playing might think of what's happening. That's actual constructive criticism worded in a way that is understandable, instead of hyperbole that explains nothing and isn't helpful in any way except to try and bait vitriol. And if you want me to say something more about her, I dislike her outfit, it looks like a Vegas showgirl interpretation of her character. A corset would be infinitely more sexy than a glorified bikini and closer to her iconic look. And there is also nuance that you can have. I watched that MattyPlays review and there were a number of things I found myself agreeing with him on (regarding roleplay mostly but I'll add my own point on autodialogue) but a number of things I didn't agree with him on, based on what he showed. For example, he said he thought the Harding romance scene he showed was cringe. I couldn't disagree with him more, I found it was very cute and heartwarming. It got a bit embarrassing with Rook crawling on the floor and trying to grab at Harding but 60-70% of the scene I thought was very nicely done. And even the crawling on the floor I could probably excuse a bit because Rook was basically high as a kite. I know I've been overly giggly and not thinking exactly straight when I had a bit too many puffs of grass.

I know....it's more like they're just trying to pick one little thing out of the list of credible arguments to hyper fixate on....
Yet, we're the ones that are "hating to just hate" or "want BioWare to fail" Well I'm not saying the skeptic side doesn't have people with bad faith, because they exist, but this specific type of argument of bringing the old game down so they'll be at this game's level almost feels malicious... Either that or the ones making them are really burring their heads in the sand

This happened to some degree here when Andromeda got shit on too. People get defensive when others imply they like a terrible thing. An expected reaction. People don't want to feel stupid. And it's not exactly nice to laugh at them for liking something one doesn't. So it goes both ways.
So I keep my asshat gremlin vibes to this threat and leave those excited for the game to their fun.
