Some people are saying at least the lore bits you collect are well written. I dunno, has anybody shared this letter of Harding to her mother? Harding is around 50 now, right? This sounds like a letter written by a teenager... Shared it with a friend who used to be a huge Bioware fan but who won't be playing this (smart choice) and he was just "lol".

I say it fits the Harding we see in this game pretty well. They wrote her to be a teenager, and a teenager she is in my eyes. It is amazingly bad.

I honestly feel like all the side content like Tavintor night and all these side books and comics are essential to understanding what's going on this game, and if you didn't you must read the codex. And a game that you have to read the codex to understand is a badly written game imo

That would completely make me lose interest in her romance, if I played the game. They gave us the first ever dwarven romance, a cool female rogue dwarf no less, only to make her act like a teen. Yikes

My friend gifted me Veilguard for my birthday so... guess I'm playing it lul.
The good: - You CAN actually make a great looking male qunari, even better than Inquisition - Solas and Morrigan are fine - The blighted village was actually pretty gruesome - The deep male voice is SEXYYYY
The bad: - Companions as of now with Harding, Bellara and Neve are all boring - Banter is terrible, if it even exists, it's just exposition and talking about what's going on around them - Too much exposition, it's almost ridiculous - A lot of stuff feels too game-y - It doesn't feel like an RPG - Character creation is pretty terrible, especially the color selection, I much prefer DA:I I must admit - Absolutely stinky, ugly hairstyles, especially for dudes - The Evanuris absolutely ARE mustache twirling villains like people have said LMAO
Overall it's bad but nothing so atrocious that I won't be able to finish it.

About the Dalish and the Evanuris. They completely skipped the part where the Dalish lose their shit after learning that their gods were simply uber powerful mages that enslaved all elves.
The Dalish at the start of the game already know who and what the Evanuris are, almost as if they all know what the Inquisitor and the Inquisition learned during Trespasser.
The problem however is that Strife, a character from Tevinter Nights, didn't know any of this prior to Veilguard and now he suddenly knows everything.
If they somehow learned of it in Arlathan Forest ok, if Morrigan told them, ok. But it is such a missed opportunity to have an indentity and faith crisis with the Dalish as a people. Instead every single Dalish is already "they're not my gods", and some are even on a first name basis with Solas and know he is Fen'Harel.
Another bizarre thing that the writers simply buried in Veilguard. There aren't agents of the Dread Wolf anywhere in this game. Not a single one. Trespasser had one, Tevinter Nights is full of them, hell even that Vows and Vengeance podcast had one. Yet Veilguard itself is lazy enough that there is not a single agent under Solas TRYING to help him succeed in his plans? Geez, how pathetic. That sounds so stupid. Even worse than trespassers simplistic they were slavers stuff. Don't get at all why clans would believe some rumours/news eminating from either their trickster god or a chantry inquisition. Religious dogma tend to be just cast aside so easily especially the gods themselves have actually appeared. Are there really no elves/dalish following elgarnan and co?

This game feels utopic when it comes to elves and mages. No one cares if you are a mage, or elf, elves are in all the key positions, the Dalish completely changed Thier culture and now hate the gods they worshipped....

The only Dalish following an elven god isn't even following the Evanuris, it is a single Dalish elf who unknowingly got himself into a position of servitude to one of the Forgotten Ones, the "evil" pantheon from the Dalish legends.
And yes, there is one of those in the game but it is a bloody sidequest, they are as cartoonishly evil as Ghil and Elgar'nan, and it was met with a big shrug that a Forgotten One is around. lol
So no, no Dalish are working with the Evanuris. Ghilan'nain has the Antaam, Elgar'nan has the Venatori.

Guessing we met the all the other remaining ancient elves in DAI then too? When it was first announced as dredd wolf i was so excited about the possibilities regarding elves and instead we get nonsense.

I know the Mage and Templar 'war' was resolved very quickly in Inquisition, but prejudices are hardly killed so quickly and easily. We need only look at human history to confirm that. Did they do away with all the nuance and depth of 'human' behavior in regards to established beliefs about classes/races in this title?

Ye Gods the download is finally over... I've got to upgrade my slow-ass bandwidth! Surprised? Yes, I did get this, despite everything I said in here about it. Why? So I can see for myself just how bad it is. I mean, I already know it's bad, but I wish to see how much of it I can take. And if I can tolerate the sludge long enough, I'd like to murder this whole tokenized crew at the end. Call it intellectual titillation. Considering the Sims influences, this isn't unlike removing the ladder from the swimming pool. Oh, and I also wish to see if I can make a reasonably good looking character with their cartoony CC.

Did they do away with all the nuance and depth of 'human' behavior in regards to established beliefs about classes/races in this title? That's exactly my issue with the elves as well. This is the crux of why this world simply doesn't feel like Dragon Age, and moreover, doesn't feel dangerous and believable. It feels like magical land with some evil you are easily gonna vanquish with your buddies.

Like review inflation isn't a thing too.... Indeed. They'll never admit to it of course. But I figure that if you remove all the 10/10 and 0/10 - you get an accurate picture of the real user score.

Be it the opression of elves, mage vs templar conflict, any compelling politics etc. Its just all black and white now. Rook & co. vs two cartoony evil gods who are worse than Cory

We'll likely get a clearer picture of the reception on that site in a week or two. Dragon Age Origins fans will likely be at the lower end of the ratings. There will be exceptions, but I suspect not many. Inquisition fans will probably score it higher because Veilguard ostensibly isn't as dramatic a departure from what they enjoy. In all likelihood it'll settle around a five or six after all is said and done. Which is a fair score with everything taken into account. They could have done themselves a huge favor by removing the words "Dragon Age" from their product.

Forget about BG3, most of the Bioware catalogue has much better voice acting. And it's not bad across the board, it's just very uneven. But I'm pretty sure it's a bad direction because there is even one returning character that in previous game was a charisma bomb that now I feel is terribly voiced. Yeah it has to be bad directing. The person who play Lace Harding and Liara is the same I think. And her performance here was so dry compared to ME. I checked IMDB, and they don't even have a Voice Director listed. Doesn't mean there wasn't one, but nobody is credited with the role.

You're just over thinking it. Nothing and I mean nothing you were told or saw in previous games matters now. Just go with the flow and stop asking awkward questions. It's not even just the lore, it's common sense. Would merchants and establishments remain open if the building right next to them was covered in Anthrax powder or something? lol
It is truly insane to think that they thought it was ok. Worldbuilding, immersion and a modicum of realism aren't part of this game and I think you can only truly have fun with this if you:
A - Never played or heard of Dragon Age before.
B - Has an extremely short attention span.
C - Don't pay attention to any details, be it small or big.
And now you know why I chose not to play. I had a very strong premonition it would be like this, which is why I didn't pre-order but thought I would wait for the reviews. Once they started coming in and genuine fans of the game were saying it wasn't for them, I knew I had made the right choice even before the various scenes started appearing on line. If lots of people on these boards enjoy it, that's fine and good for them but it's not for me. I'm remain out of curiosity and to console those who do feel disappointed.

Regarding racism in the lore and stuff like that. My character is a Qunari mage, member of the Mourn Watch.
Pretty much everyone only cares that I stopped an undead rebellion first and foremost, in fact they won't shut up about it. Recognition that I am a Qunari only happened in Treviso, because the city is occupied by Qunari. And yet everyone treated me the same. lol
It's pretty obvious that they dumbed down the lore on that aspect too. You'd think a Qunari walking around Minrathous would cause some friction, seeing as Tevinter is supposed to be at war with the Antaam, or was anyway.
I bet you that there won't be a single moment in this game that someone will say the words Knife Ear.
