Btw, let's talk about the Venatory for a second. Because I initially thought they always sucked but then I remembered Alexius and Felix and that whole thing. And it wasn't the best plot in DA history, but it was something and it was well made. And it gave them a face, they felt like more than just mobs you fight. I'm gonna say something that sounds like a hyperbole, and I might change my mind once I advance past act 1 (I'm just finishing it) but even the darkspawn in Dragon Age origins had more personality and "humanity" to them than the Venatory. They expressed the worst parts of humanity, like cruelty and spite, (remember how one darkspawn holds a soldier at the edge of a blade, sees the army about to come and kill him, and slays the soldier? It's a small moment, but it made them real). The Venatory are literally the designers of the game saying "we need something the player can kill whenever we don't have anything better " Yep utterly lazy. Literal faceless monks that the player doesn’t even have to think about killing.

I'll raise you on that front. I've been called a "mouse-clicker" by some people who prefer the console/controller combat style.

This is WolfHeart's final review. He has been invited to the BW event prior to launch and gave a mixed review then. He was not sent a review code afterwards. This is his real review now. And before the mods swoop in to erase this post, there is no mention in his review of the thing we can't talk about. An excellent video just like the first one, let's hope apologists won't be as dismissive as they were of the first. Hell people that used to be friends of mine were labelling me as a "lore fan" and not "Dragon Age fan" because I cannot stop thinking and saying how they butchered the lore and that I should appreciate how beautiful this game is. Well, sure. lol
Lore fan is a fun label, I like it. Anyway, his first point about how he planned to dedicate his channel to DA4 is relatable. I was planning to play this game for months, years, now there's nothing since this game has little replayability anyway. I booted up DAI yesterday and it's like day and night, the tone, the dialogue, everything.
Veilguard is a disappointment on all of its entirety.
"Lore fan", true fan more like. Anyone who would use that designation in a negative way is what would be called, heh, a TOURIST

I booted up DAI yesterday and it's like day and night, the tone, the dialogue, everything. I think this is what I'll do as well. I still haven't uninstalled Ze Veilguard yet but the mere thought of going back in for another round of insipid & asinine dialogues exhausts me just to think about it. Question, do you intend to go through Trespasser now that you know what awaits you or will you stop at 'Jaws of Hakkon' & 'The Descent' before the end of the main game?

Trespasser is still an AMAZING experience, Veilguard will never change that. Sure it is, but it leaves us on a cliffhanger we'll never see the payoff for. EDIT: So in order to get closure on Thedas, it might be preferable to avoid it. That's what I was thinking of when framing the question.

Well, despite not liking Veilguard as a whole, I thought the Solas stuff was still decently handled. It's really everything else that's just dull, dumb or straight up terrible lul. I get what you mean but eh, I'd still play Trespasser without any issues!

I'll play Trespasser yes, pretend that it's Varric and Hawke chasing Solas on that ritual site, and that Hawke finally offed an antagonist for good this time. Without meeting any of the stupid Veilguard companions on the way. Good for everyone. Still bizarre to have this mindset of "make your own canon" outside of Elder Scrolls, but Weekes and co clearly gave me no choice.

I always thought, if you are a fan of a storyrich series like DA, you are automatically a fan of the lore too, since why otherwise care for the world? But I guess we are naive.

Yep utterly lazy. Literal faceless monks that the player doesn’t even have to think about killing. kind of Cerberus of DAV. In ME3 they became comically evil too so I guess it's on brand...

At least in me3 there’s at least some reason(indoctrination). Even if I don’t love the choice. I haven’t heard any suggestion that venatori are being enslaved by blood magic.

Guys I need help from some lore experts. What would you say are the biggest lore crimes in this game and why? I'll make a list for you:
- The Blight and the taint were retconned to being extremely less than dangerous than they used to be. Just destroy the "source", be it the Evanuris or glowing flesh sacks and you're good. And also the reason the blight exists, and where it comes from, was revealed to us in the game. We did nothing with this information.
- The near complete erasure of the Qunari government save for a little codex entry about how most of the Antaam rebelled and the Arishok can't do shit. Except he could with the help of the Ben-Hassrath.
- Qunari soldiers following an elven god, known as demons for the Qunari, just to get power. I don't care if the entirety of the Antaam suddenly turned Tal-Vashoth, it makes ZERO sense for them to work for an uber powerful elven mage because even Tal-Vasoth don't trust magic, or mages and still keep Saarebas on leashes.
- Can't confirm this because I didn't see it but if it's true that there was a Qunari mage Lord of Fortune saying that "the Qun wasn't so bad" then it is the nail in the coffin for the Qunari.
- The Agents of the Dread Wolf vanished when they should have and could have been working towards freeing Solas from his prison, or even before he was imprisoned they could have hindered our efforts. Still they aren't anywhere in this game and Weekes would certainly love us to forget that Solas had countless elven spies and spirits working for him.
- The Antivan Crows were neutered in this game and went from professional assassins for hire to gauche freedom fighters that are romanticized by everyone. Where is the organization that bought children and slaves to brutally train them into their culture of assassins? A blood codex from DAI, The Crows and Queen Madrigal had more teeth than anything Lucanis could ever blot out of his insipid dialogues. "Do you think we would talk because of something as banal as torture?"
- The Tevinter Imperium is no longer a mage supremacist country. It is no longer the big bad of Northern Thedas. Genocide and hatred for the elves? Forgotten. Irrelevant. As far as I'm concerned we as players never went to Tevinter and never will.
- The Tevinter-Qunari war was forgotten and ignored, because of course it was.
- Isseya from the Last Fligth was brought back to do the opposite of what she did in life just for cheap drama that no one cared about, not even Davrin, the only Warden in the party.
- There is no racism in Thedas anymore and everyone loves you no matter what. Kinda lore related but also gameplay related I guess.
- The Dalish basically longer exist as a people because the game refuses to recognize their existence in any meaningful way. Instead, Arlathan is claimed by the Veil Jumpers, who apparently take anyone. The Dalish have neither a home nor a pantheon now, and all of them are apparently screwed in Southern Thedas because it’s just straight up gone anyway so there's that.
- Speaking of the South, the South being destroyed is also pretty bad so yeah.
- There will be no reckoning from Mythal that will shake the very heavens. No “she was betrayed as I was betrayed as the world was betrayed” because not only is Mythal an absolute good guy now, but she is also pro-veil. There will be no retribution, despite the game hinting at it.
If anyone has anything else please speak, my head hurts.

Guys I need help from some lore experts. What would you say are the biggest lore crimes in this game and why? I think the biggest flaw that I noticed immediately was just generally the declawing of cultures and factions. Everywhere elves and mages and qunari just seem to exist in harmony. And no culture or faction is painted as antagonistic with deeply disturbing flaws that made them as intriguing as they were before Veilguard (I mean, I guess outside of Venatori and Antaam).

Let me understand. Treviso is occupied by the military might of the Qun. The Antaam. You arrive in Treviso. You are then escorted by the ostensible second in command of the Crows throughout the city. You run into at least five Antaam patrols. They do and say nothing. Absolutely nothing. You are invisible to them. What’s going on? Is it normal for a foreign power to occupy a city and let strangers and lieutenants of their opposition gallivant around?

And it fucking gets worse. Why is there a market with weapons and armor on sale? It is not hidden. Swords right there on the table in view of everyone. Are they occupied by the carebears? Are we going to sing songs? I can’t take it.
