Dragon Age The Veilguard Criticism Thread (formerly Skepticism Thread) [Spoilers]

I was happy that we got one canon male/male couple out of this game but... Emmrich x Strife? Really? How did you come up with that? Please.

More likely it smacks of '' OH MY GOD, we don't have a male/male relationship forming from the companions yet, quick figure out something before we get called homophobes because we have a straight relationship and a quasi-lesbian relationship already!!! Ahhh!!! '' which I would've called them (lol) out of pure spite because I'm annoying like that, but you could smell it from a mile away that they just... quickly tried to even the odds so to speak, just so people don't point it out because Bioware doesn't have a great track record with male/male content and relationships, both in and outside of Dragon Age. Covering their asses, so to speak. Or so it feels.

Probably true, witchcocktor, but keep in mind they probably also didn’t want to pair Emmerich up with a younger NPC because that might be seen as “problematic.”

I mean, if Rook romances Emmerich, that’s the player freely buying into the romance despite the age gap. But if Emmerich were to pair up with, say, Davrin, then that raises questions around the power dynamic.

I made the youngest, most innocent LoF male Rook just to romance Emmrich. Because what you gonna do BW.

That was my exact same plan, a super young looking male elf to romance Emmrich but... but then I got tired of the completely ass character creation and male elves looking weird as hell and mostly terrible hairstyles, so I just made a qunari dude lol. I've actually spent time in the character creation screen since finishing the game just to soo if I could make a cute elf boy but it's literally impossible. 

Perhaps with eventual mods it'll be easier. It's certainly easy to make a cute lil' elf guy in Inquisition (with or without mods, really).

HAH, I do think they've kind of failed with elves, but its the only race giving me the proper tools to actually making something cute! (ignore the picture on the left though, it's an.... unflattering angle LMAO).



Veilguard though, they have really made it hard to make something cute. I don't know why the arms are so long and bulky this time around, and why the faces are so... like they are with elves?

Though I've seen plenty of hot humans (cute though idk, have to look into it), and making a decent qunari was pretty easy in Veilguard as opposed to Inquisition.

Well if you ever do, tell me how you managed to make a good looking male elf cuz... damn, I was STRUGGLING. 
You can make a pretty decent vampire though. And I made an elf that look liked Gaston from Beauty and the Beast... but that's it.

The constant use of "team" and other modern phrases was not good in DAV. I've always loved the way Morigan spoke in DA. But the use of modern language was bad.

She also had a maturity to her. Sure, she was socially awkward and not used to dealing with everyday people in Thedas, but she knew what humanity was and had a clear and defined goal. She knew how serious her task was and treated it as such. She was an adult who felt real. For good or ill, she spoke up and challenged Hawke and anyone who dared stand between her and dragging her clan kicking and screaming to glory. An actual 'return to form' for the elves. She was not Dora the Explorer babbling about veil bubbles. 

Harding and Emmrich are taking a camping trip in Ferelden while most of Southern Thedas are facing a cataclysmic blight that makes the events of DAI/The Mage Templar War/The Orlesian Civil War look like a non event in comparison.

Was there no oversight? Or was John Epler too distracted making hot takes on Bluesky and Twitter to iron out these gaffs?

That whole segment was the most embarrassing thing to me. I just wanted it over.

10th? More like 20th at this point. Plus I installed DAO again and try to get the game modded. Might do a rerun of the series ( minus Disney DA of course).
