I'll be honest that I don't think I understand the definition of woke these days. I hadn't even considered BG3 woke at all. Is it because companions are player-sexual? I don't follow what is "woke" these days but in BG you had "pansexual" a trans character, folks of colors, ugly women (Lae Zel is pretty for a frog) gay couples etc...I think that kind of thing *triggers* the woke crowd when they feel like it's triggering time. What? BG didn't have ugly women. I rarely see any negative comments about Shadowhearts looks, quite the opposite. As much as I can't stand Karlach, she has a cult following. Lae'zel works really well because when mocapped, her voice actress has very cute mannerisms. We all exist because of sex, and sex sales for a reason. When you have attractive characters a lot is forgiven.

Shadowheart and Karlach are beautiful. When I say "ugly women" I mean what gamers say is ugly, it's not something I understand most time. I never though Cassandra was "ugly", she could have been a model in the 90's. Taash when not frowning like someone farted looks good as well. Harding and Neve are also hot..but DATV suffers from ugly women too. Somehow. I know a lot is forgiven when character are pretty. Astarion fans wouldn't put with half his shit if he wasn't good looking. And damn I wish Solas would look like this now So the bullshit excuse about his appaling behavior would stop.

As I said before in this thread, I think it's more then fine if some people don't find characters in Veilguard attractive. What I find weird is the discourse that a part of them make about being something new for DA. I recall well the discussions people made about characters being 'ugly' in DA2 and Inquisition.
In regards of BG3 being 'woke' or not, I didn't follow much discourse at the time, but I saw people linking and posting articles that criticized BG3 for being 'woke' or doomed to fail/being in trouble because of such content. I have no clue from when they were from and how frequent they were, though. Likewise, I saw some criticism about Metaphor, and I recall a post on Twitter about Atlus having 'fallen' because they didn't allow the player to romance characters in the game (specifically, the redhead elven woman).
I think something that BG3 did well is giving freedom in roleplaying your character in the way you wanted. Larian has clearly a vision in regards of certain choices and consequences in the game, as, for example, in regards of the endings, but they still allow the player to go in the direction they want.
It doesn't mean that Veilguard is going to be a bad game/rpg because of the (seemingly) lack of this freedom, which, to be fair, wasn't as wide compared to BG3 even in DAO, but it is a fair point of criticism.
There are RPGs where you don't have this freedom, and Bioware is free to go in that direction (which I think was already taken in Inquisition, in a way. It's still fine to point it out and criticize it, but some go off on Bioware not adding blood mages in Veilguard as if it's a new thing), but players are also free to criticize it and not like it.

I wouldn't consider Cass ugly either. I modded her with longer hair and she's gorgeous. However, if she had armor that was inspired by her "Dawn of the Seeker" movie, I bet she wouldn't have received as much hate. Veilguard, I can't say as non of them are my taste. Ha, completely agree about Solas.

Wolfheart aren't going to shit on the "woke" stuff, BG3 is queer friendly. I'll be honest that I don't think I understand the definition of woke these days. I hadn't even considered BG3 woke at all. Is it because companions are player-sexual? "Woke" means, and has always meant, something like: an awareness of systemic and historical injustices and inequities. Basic stuff like us murderdeathkilling natives in the USA, or slavery, or redlining, or whatever. Reactionaries and bigots mis-use the term, including/especially in the context of media, as a catch-all for "anything me no like", usually the mere existence of gays, non-whites, trans/non-binary/etc, women in positions of power, etc etc. The usual stuff that triggers those sorts of people. Typically, if something is described as "woke", that's an unequivocally good sign since its either actually woke (good), or at least triggers the anti-woke crybabies (funny): both are good things, albeit different.
