Why exactly do we believe there won't be greatswords or bars and taverns? Genuinely curious. kingmandu hinted above that there are probably no greatswords, but didn't give any source. I probably blew that aspect up out of proportion when replying to him quoting only that line. Sorry about that, but there was a point I wanted to make and "lacking greatswords" would be a symptom of that point. Could've used something else, but it was convenient.
Short answer: we don't know if there will be greatswords in the game.
But it is curious that we didn't see any in the footage.
I could be mistaken but I thought one early player mentioned warriors can swap between sword and shield and two-handed...like an automatic ability. If so, good thing they can ignore D&D's weight penalty.

And yet another trailer that they should have led with to begin their marketing campaign. If I knew absolutely nothing about the details and what this game is going to be about, I might be hyped for it.

If I knew absolutely nothing about the details and what this game is going to be about, I might be hyped for it. It certainly is more enticing at face value, but unfortunately that doesn't change what's under the hood.

If the game actually was like this, it would be cool. Unfortunately, we already know it isn't. Unless, again, the published footage is extremely nonrepresentative of the actual game.

Why exactly do we believe there won't be greatswords or bars and taverns? Genuinely curious. There's been some posts on the main Dragon Age subreddit where people are questioning why there haven't been any greatswords showcased. I personally don't know if they're in the game, but I'd have to imagine someone could check all the videos to find out (not just looking at the combat, but also looking at the in-game stores to see if it exists).

Having a hard time believing none of the two-handed weapons will be greatswords.

Thanks! That does indeed look like a proper DARK trailer. I imagine casual players or fans who didn't follow all the news and preview reviews prior will like this and be excited. So good job, BioWare! We'll see which trailer was the misleading one in the end. The awful teaser or this one.

This is the kind of trailer that would have given me hope a couple of months ago. Now, it just feels like a try hard effort on BioWare to show the game is not as bad as we think. I'll wait for the reviews for final judgement (gamers reviews not journalists or YouTube critics).

Big cities would be nice but I don't expect this. The size of Kirkwall was already OK for me. Baldur's Gate has the perfect size for an RPG. Lots to discover but not actually THAT big. A BioWare game has to have great storytelling and characters and banter. The size of the map(s) doesn't matter to me. With DAI the issue was that the maps were big but the cities a joke. If DAV can simulate a big city like they did with the Citadel in ME1, that's perfectly fine. I don't need to be able to go everywhere, I just need to feel like there's s huge metropolis around me. Funny how a lot of the locations in Baldur's Gate 3 (and other games) also imply a loading screen, yet noone complains about it like they do with Starfield. Loading screens are not the problem - it's the coherency of the overall world that is the important thing. Just a side remark.

The excessive loading sceens did the game no favors but Starfield has other much bigger issues, indeed. The media always focuses on the most superficial stuff to make fun of like "My face is tired" or the oogly eyes of NPCs in Starfield. But the disappointment lies much deeper. Which is why games that are actually good get a handwave for such minor issues. Outlaws has loading screens too but they are better masked and not as frequent.

Dealing with Solas? I would like to give him a steak laced with poison when he's in dog form. Make him go through the joining. Make him tranquil. Have the public stone him. Make him tranquil, then have him wear a jester outfit. Have my Inq be the one to kill the elf. Sell him to slavers. Give him a poison cup of tea. Cut off his ears, then stab him to death with them. With the power of the voice, convince him to commit suicide. What I expect? His sacrifice leads to him being a hero. If redeemed, there is no punishment for all his nonsense that led to countless deaths. My Inq not having any say in dealing with Solas. Never seen the knife-ear insult taken to such extremes. May the Dread Wolf take me for laughing so hard. Stand in the ashes of the thousands of dead souls and ask the ghost's if extreme matters? The silence is your answer

That did look pretty badass...why they chose the marketing approach they did up until now I will never understand. I guess in a week we'll know which is representative.

It's mostly corridor and background decor. It looks great but don't expect to explore much or have a bar or a true city. I'm not going to set up too much expectations in regards of city building in a Bioware game, especially considering Val Rouyeaux, but I guess there have been previews with negative comments about it, with clear cut statements about not having a bar/tavern? Yeah I watched a reviewer at this point I don't remember which one who said cities weren't big either and worked like most maps. You're channeled from point A to B. I think a big gaming site also said there isn't much interaction either but it's quite pretty to look at. By tavern etc...I meant don't expect like random places you can go and several quarter. There might be a tavern, we can get into for a quest ...but don't expect a city like witcher 3 or any open world. We're going to Minrathous but we aren't exploring the whole city. Just a couple of places in there.

The poll on what this thread should do with spoilers going forward, was c.70+% in favour of Tagged Spoilers, so that's what we'll do come launch. Thanks.

I heard Mortym (Mortismal Gaming) has gotten one of the early review copies. That's where I'll go. He's the only one I know who got a pre-release copy for certain. He does review a lot of crap and is not known to be immediately overcritical. So, maybe it is better to wait for his 100% review, which might take a couple of weeks, depending on what the achievements actually are and how the nightmare difficulty plays out. By then, there are going to be a few other fair and unbiased reviews. I also more or less trust Angry Joe with these kinds of games, so will probably wait for that as well. IDK if Angry Joe will do a full review but his rapid fire reviews are also decent. Some other peoples on tube I trust might have got a pre-release copy as well, just staying quiet about it. The new trailer looks fine, much better than anything else shown so far, which is a bit concerning due to the lack of consistency between various trailers. Of note, the trailer does noting to alleviate the writing quality concerns I have since it is pure action. It also don't have any romance scenes in it, which is another issue. Violence is somewhat there but in a strongly blunted version, mostly focusing on large scale presentation. Thus, it remains unclear whether one can behead/maim/dismember humanoid enemies with a greatsword/axe with a fountain of blood. That kind of visceral gore might be appealing. Alas, my prediction is that it won't be possible, lowering the expectations a bit. Finally, the supposed villains still look cartoonish, while being a bit more threatening than the standard enemies shown in other trailers/videos. However, it might feel better with music and effects in a proper context.

Shinobi on Resetera shared that BioWare has given out a large number of review codes, in response to posts claiming that reviewers would be 'cherry picked'.
"They've distributed hundreds." Shinobi602
So most people should be able to find a content creator they find credible that is reviewing the game.

That Starfield review poster comes to mind. Hoping this review cycle won't be the same. Luckily I've the content creators I do trust. Sadly, that list changes and shortens over the years.

Over the past 5 years there is only 1 YouTube reviewer that has been in my list all this time, and that's ACG. All others have changed or are gone. Mortim is nice too but he is very crpg centric. But at least his reviews are always very clear headed. The guy is so nice even when I don't agree with him I still like to hear his opinions.

About the launch trailer: It's hard to tell but it looks like Ghilan'nain appears to pop out of some creature's head like a parasite. I appreciate that. The more they show of her and how little we've got from Elgar'nan makes me think she's going to take the backseat. Maybe she's dealt with earlier. I'd appreciate that less.
