Something that would totally get me to engage with multiplayer or some other live service element would be cosmetic rewards that increase our customisation options. Special armor and weapons, wigs, skins, things of that nature. While it's not bad idea in itself, I remember the backlash dragon decor got for being locked behind multiplayer. I'm not certain it'd be wise to lock even more sp items behind mp. I feel like getting upset over not being able to get a particular set of digital drapes for the windows of your imaginary castle just proves that some people will complain about anything. The success or wisdom of any particular live service model that DA adopts will be measured by the money it makes, not by the number of people complaining. For my own part, I have no interest in multiplayer rewards that can only be used in multiplayer. I would need the hypothetical items to be usable in the base game if I was going to even bother.

Something that would totally get me to engage with multiplayer or some other live service element would be cosmetic rewards that increase our customisation options. Special armor and weapons, wigs, skins, things of that nature. That's something AC: Odyssey did with the weekly missions. Youd have a boss mercenary and ship spawn in the game. Killing the mercenary would sometimes reward you either a unique weapon or item, while destroying the ship netted you a new customization option for your own ship.

I'm happy to see most likely none of the old companions are returning as squadmates.

I'm happy to see most likely none of the old companions are returning as squadmates. To be fair, we only had three retuning companions in the franchise: Oghren from DAO to DAA, Anders from DAA to DA2, and Varric DA2 to DAI. It’s not a really big part of the companion cast of each game. While I’d agree that I don’t see any possible previous companions returning as a companion (Fenris would’ve been, but the fact that he can die in DA2 takes him out of the realm of possibilities), I’d say it’s likely that one character we already encountered in the games, just not as a companion, will be a member of the team. Myself, what I’m most interested about is seeing new countries and cultures far away from the south of Thedas, directly. It was about time.

To be fair, we only had three retuning companions in the franchise Cassandra, Morrigan, Lelliana and even Cullen, if I recall, where involved in other titles in the franchise in some capacity. So I should have clarified "returning in any capacity", not just squadmates.

Yes, in this case I can be understand your point, although I think the reason behind those returning characters was *maybe* due to the fact that Hawke was originally intended to be the Inquisitor. I think it’d have been originally intended in a similar situation then the ME trilogy, in regards of returning characters. On this point though, some would definitely return. I have little doubt that Dorian won’t be a somehow relevant character in the story.

I didn't have a problem with returning characters in ME. It's not having a new protagonist that turns me off, from having returning characters in DA4. It's the fact that I was pretty far from content with them, in the first place. I did not like them, I did not have fun interacting with them, I had problem bonding with them and I was unable to relate with them. So I'd rather they not show up in a sequel, in any capacity.

I’m hyped to be getting rid of dai companions(who I mostly didn’t like) and getting a brand new set. I didn’t like most of them either, but I doubt the new group will be any better. Looking at the series so far, if anything the percentage will go down as it has every game so far (unless counting the advisors in DAI).

Looking at the series so far, if anything the percentage will go down as it has every game so far (unless counting the advisors in DAI). People tend to like 1 or 2 of them in all the games. Even as far back as BG1/BG2. My favorite DAO companion are Wynne and Shale. I tolerate the others...except Zevran, I always kill him in the ambush. My DA2 favorites are Varric and Aveline, but I don't care about DAI Varric, he just feel "been there" which I guess is a case for not bringing them back. My DAI favorites are Cassandra and...hmm...I guess you have a point there. I actually have zero anticipation for DA4 companions. I know I will like some, hate a few and not care for the rest.

Things that hyped me : - New concept of Dark Solas, the antgonist ! Hopefully my character will look as good as him in the game by the way ! ( don't mess up the character creator Bioware ! ) - A warden as a companion. I'm relieved that Blackwall isn't the only fake warden we will get. - We will get companions we either love OR hate. This, I love. There is nothing worse than bland uninteresting characters. - Our group will be like family again, like in DAII. I missed that in DA:I, where I felt it was more distant and formal, even if there was friendship. - Hopefully the possibility to shake up the Tevinter society, with an anti- slave agenda. Already planning an uncompromising Spartacus character ! - A group without power is obviously a concept I find very attractive. - Having crows, a female qunari, and maybe a mortalitasi is also something I would find absolutely cool. Hopefully Calpernia is among the companions as well !! - I like the armors I'm seeing in the concept art. - Aaand since I mostly play S/S gameplay, what I saw with combat pleased me A LOT. Especially the way things were blocked by the character in a beautiful armor !!! This that type of armor I'd like to see more !!!! The pic that really hyped me is this one : Three visually interesting characters ( Calpernia, Lace Harding, both with new hairstyle ? and maybe Lucanis / the new protagonist ? ) in an interesting ambush moment.

I was most intrigued by that image too, particularly when it was pointed out that the thing in the background was not simply a slightly strange opening in a door but an actual person, that we may have seen in another image and which I really hope is the Black Divine, although I don't know why he should be that tall. Love to know who the fourth person in the party is though. Actual companion or placeholder for the PC?

I really hope the return to a protagonist not automatically given a position of power like the Inquisitor means we get this again. One of my favorite things about DA2 is the way the relationships between Hawke and the companions really feel like friends. As much as I love DAI I feel like everyone just saw the Inquisitor as a boss or co-worker. I know it's too much to hope for but I wish friendship and rivalry would return. I think that helped make the relationships feel more complex and genuine

They need something like friendship/rivalry back, that’s part of what made da2 band work so well, at least for me.

Friendship/Rivalry was an absolute disaster. If they ever bring it back, it needs to be a part of a bigger system. Like a two axis scale, one being friendship/rivalry and the other being approval/disapproval.

Friendship and rivalry had some hiccups but I wish it had been perfected rather than abandoned. I loved that having a character disagree with me meant I still could unlock the same content with them (personal quests, cutscenes, stuff like that), just framed differently. I thought it really added to the roleplaying experience, since I could play my Hawke as I intended, without having to worry about losing content based on not having high enough approval with someone. I'd love for that to come back. Just my personal feelings though. But regardless, I don't actually see it coming back after being absent for a whole game. As long as I like the characters, I will be perfectly happy. I can't wait to learn more about the cast!
