Soo... hype thread! Anyone got any loose ideas for what kind of character(s) they'd like to play going into DA4? Assuming we have all races and a variety of specializations, what are you thinking/hoping for? Got any thoughts about how they look, what kind of VA you'd like to have? Wanna break out the ol' Alignment Chart? We'll see what they cook up this time around, but some kind of Elven Arcane Warrior type sounds good. If not that, then some of dual-wielding rogue. However, if this is on the table, then... I may change my mind. If we're a Lord of Fortune this time around, it might be fun to play up the mercenary angle for a change.

Wanna break out the ol' Alignment Chart? Very possibly something mage. Very possibly elf, perhaps qunari, but that depends on what we get for backgrounds. (I'd even consider human if it has some good 'Vint style RP.) I'm pretty predictable in that regard, and I want all the nice 'Vint and elven magic goodies. Especially the bloody ones. Probably also continuing my DAI trend that all non-mages are dwarves (Well, I have exactly one, and she's an archer, as I cannot be bothered by DAI's melee mechanics). As for VA's... possibly unpopular opinion incoming: I'm absolutely not fond of more clichéd AE accents and prefer "old world" English. What about some either quirky acting (I'm thinking Eve Myles) or a unique made-up accent, like Miranda Raison's performance of Cassandra. If Tevinter is going to be more exotic, it might sound the way.

Wanna break out the ol' Alignment Chart? A spirit, if we’re lucky enough to have that as an option (maybe in a future game). If not, anything nonhuman. Would be really interested to play a capital-Q Qunari, if that’s an option. For specializations, it would be cool to see harlequins. With all the Crow involvement in the concept art, maybe the assassin specialty will involve Crow sidequests, which would be very cool. For mages, would love to see more glyphs, utility, and battlefield control spells. Stuff that rewards a pause-heavy playstyle. For warriors... I might bring my warrior party members on one or two quests. They work better in realtime combat, I think. Since I’m micromanaging the tac cam, they tend to be disappointing. Really hope one of the VAs will have a more gender-neutral sound, like Sumalee did. Maybe, if we get very lucky, the VAs will be transferable onto all bodies, something like how TS4 handles it. And maybe, if we get very, very lucky... well, I don’t even want to dream that big. Alignment-wise, I usually play pretty flawed characters, but the flaws vary from person to person. We’ll have to see what jumps out in this game.

Assuming we have all races and a variety of specializations, what are you thinking/hoping for? Got any thoughts about how they look, what kind of VA you'd like to have? Wanna break out the ol' Alignment Chart? For years now, I have been planning for my 'canon' DA4 protagonist to be a qunari mage - the characters in that world state are a human noble archer, a two-handed warrior Hawke and a dual-dagger Cadash, so it's clearly time for a mage to save that timeline for a change. There is a chance I might be swayed to play a dwarf warrior instead if this really is the time we finally get a dwarf romance. But on the other hand, the idea of Harding and a very tall qunari mage lady is pretty darn adorable, so maybe not! Anyway, if there's a melee-capable specialisation like Arcane Warrior or Knight-Enchanter I'll probably pick that, so I feel like her muscles are being put to good use. Characterisation is obviously going to depend on what type of person we're actually playing, but assuming it's possible I'd like her to be someone who hates the Qun and the Vints. No real idea of her personality at this point - my Warden was diplomatic, my Hawke was a aggressive and my Inquisitor was snarky so I feel like I covered the three basic DA types already.
Speaking of dwarf warrior - if I do indeed play qunari mage first, dwarf warrior lady will probably be my second choice. If some other party member distracts my qunari but Harding is a romance option (tower of assumptions there, I know) then she'll be the one who does that. Aiming for aggressive and practical to go with the giant two-handed axe she's going to be carrying.
First human will probably be a female dual-dagger rogue. One of the only human weapon/gender combinations I haven't played across the course of the first three games. If we're really playing a Lord of Fortune, someone who embraces that lifestyle enthusiastically! Out for money and fun, not necessarily in that order.
First elf ... honestly, no idea whatsoever. Depends on what class I want to try again after those first three. I am leaning towards the protagonist of my - so far - entirely theoretical ideal DA world state being an elf, though. Someone like Sera who embraces the modern world and has no truck with Solas and his talk of the glory days. (I'm imagining rogue Brosca Warden, mage Hawke and qunari warrior Inquisitor so it will definitely be time for an elf by then.)
I expect all of those plans to change plenty as we get more information and I actually play the damn game, mind you, but I love making plans anyway!

Wanna break out the ol' Alignment Chart? If we get the option to play as an elven slave, I'll start with that. Probably will go with some sort of rogue, since I think sneaking around would fit that background. And I will import my Dorian-romancing elf playthrough, hoping for some acknowledgement of their relationship, if Dorian appears in the game in any capacity.

Well I won't really know until I see what backgrounds are available, what class/spec options too.
But I think it would be particularly satisfying to kick Solas's ass with an elf.
A warrior with the Spirit Warrior spec and the willing aid of spirits of Justice and Valor etc? Double satisfying. Preferably after helping a Tevinter slave rebellion.

I love all your ideas! As for me, with the limited info we have, I've been leaning towards a female qunari (probably a non-mage, since my Inquisitor is a qunari mage.... but if blood magic shows up, I may not be able to resist.....) or a female dwarf (ESPECIALLY if we get some kind of Kal-Sharok origin or special interactions with a Titan). It really depends on the VAs, which romances are available to such characters, and what kind of dynamic I like with the story. The Lords of Fortune angle, though, has me thinking rogue. Or maybe I just miss shamelessly pickpocketing in DAO. Maybe, if we get very lucky, the VAs will be transferable onto all bodies Oooh, this is my hope as well! And perhaps being able to choose our walking/idle animations.

Wanna break out the ol' Alignment Chart? If we go similar class/spec route as previous titles, I'll most likely start with dw assassin-type rogue. It's the combo I feel most comfortable with (and I think I want to feel comfortable for my first pt, I'll torture myself later with stupid combinations) that appeared in each game of the series thus far, so I can assume it's going to appear again. From pipe dreams, I'd love mix of Arcane Warrior/Knight Enchanter and Battlemage. I want to rule battlefield like nobody's business No idea about the race. I'll wait till we know more about characters' origins and damn character creator. I might plan to play one race, but I admit, if I can't create character that I can look at, there's no way I'd be able to finish the game with them However, if this is on the table, then... I may change my mind. Gimme *grabby hands*

Whatever these people are fighting, is a huge red lyrium monster.

Soo... hype thread! Anyone got any loose ideas for what kind of character(s) they'd like to play going into DA4? Going by my previous experience with all 3 DA games: I'm going to spend about ~50 hours in character creation/tutorial section trying classes and characters before settling on something. Totally pointless for me to plan for something. I can relate to this. Then after spending all that time in CC you get into the main game and the face looks nothing like you thought it would. 😞

So I've been taking a slightly more in-depth look at the new concept pieces, and I have to admit I'm liking what I'm seeing.
Admittedly, concept art always has a chance of being different from the final game, but I like what Bioware is apparently considering.
From the potential big monster fights (I can see them as an evolution of the dragon fights from DA:I) and the implied underwater gameplay (which is more likely than it seems thanks to DA4 and Anthem sharing the same codebase), to things like the red lyrium-infused darkspawn and the jolly-looking living mountain fellow.
I also enjoy the implications that we are going to visit Antiva, Nevarra, and the Anderfels, the latter of which I slightly doubted for a good long while.
Here's hoping for Rivain and Seheron or Par Vollen as well.

For my first playthrough i always play a female human (i`m boring i know ), most probably a neutral good kind of character but i`m not sure about class yet, guess it will depend on what worldstate i plan to use first. I have two worldstates out of the ten that i consider "canon" for my female human characters. One is my all mages playthrough and in case i choose this one my first character will be a mage, for the other one i have a warrior warden, a mage Hawke and an archer inquisitor so if i use this one i guess the class will depend on which backgrounds we have available. After my first playthough i`m sure that i will end up playing all the other races and classes availables, as i always have done regarding Bioware games.

The elf motivated by her horror at what many of her people are doing with Solas and the dwarf by "having to fix what the surfacers broke, again". For class spec - the elf would be either an assassin or a duelist and the dwarf either assassin or artificer (although I'd like this spec to be a bit more 'tool' oriented than in DAI).

Something that would totally get me to engage with multiplayer or some other live service element would be cosmetic rewards that increase our customisation options. Special armor and weapons, wigs, skins, things of that nature.

It's something a lot of games already do. Many JRPGs (Persona and the Tales series for example) allow you to simply buy extra skins directly (usually dumb stuff like maid outfits, swimsuit skins, christmas shit, etc, but also the iconic looks of protagonists from previous games or other series). The new Marvel Avengers game paid content will all be purely cosmetic, supposedly (I just picked up the Deluxe edition today, so I guess I'll find out): skins, emotes, nameplates, etc. Fall Guys and I believe Fortnite as well also operate in a similar model. Also, didn't participating in Inquisition multiplayer unlock decorations for Skyhold? I seem to remember people complaining about not being able to get them any other way. I think a cosmetics-focused model strikes a good balance because, as a friend of mine said to me at work yesterday "cosmetics are not content". People who like showing off in multiplayer or just want more options for playing dressups in the single player game can engage with whatever live service model DA ends up having. People who only care about meaningful story additions can ignore it.

People who like showing off in multiplayer or just want more options for playing dressups in the single player game can engage with whatever live service model DA ends up having. People who only care about meaningful story additions can ignore it. Yeah I was thinking something similar too. Just I can see a couple...niggles...happening. 1. In Avengers (played the Demo) you do get to equip armor pieces and what not...but they do not effect your cosmetics and all which I think would be acceptable to me...just a little unimmersive. 2. Given the nature of such things BioWare might forgo all of its armor stats in its entirety and just have the cosmectics be their own thing...which I would imagine would honk some people off.

Well, I play a lot of JRPGS, and even before DLC was ever a thing, equipment almost never changed a character's appearance, so I'm used to it. Lol. But I doubt BioWare would do what you're worried about. They know that equipment management is an expected part of most WRPGS, and people weren't happy when it went away for most of the party in DA2. I would expect purely cosmetic items to have their own slots that override the appearance of current gear, for people who would even want that sort of thing in the first place.

Something that would totally get me to engage with multiplayer or some other live service element would be cosmetic rewards that increase our customisation options. Special armor and weapons, wigs, skins, things of that nature. While it's not bad idea in itself, I remember the backlash dragon decor got for being locked behind multiplayer. I'm not certain it'd be wise to lock even more sp items behind mp.
