Okay, I got MEA this afternoon and after all the hassle to download it and starting it up once ( Why does it need a smaller version of Origin, that does not make sense when on Steam!? ) I started to calm down.
Now I have seen those starting tip videos on the ME Wiki for the game, so I know to take it slow ... talk to everyone and such. But I am looking for more tips ( No spoilers about the game story please. ) on what to look out for, things I should not do ... things like that. I know it is vague but I guess that those of you who have played it ( Or still do. ) might have some more tips for a new player to ME: Andromeda that is not mentioned in those videos.

You'll have a lot of reading, read consoles, datapads etc. Leave TASKS section in Journal last in the game if possible, they are just those, tasks.

Don't expect to play Shepard, tackling galactic problems with a crew formed in 3 games. Your Character and most everyone around are still wet behind the ears and 'new'.
Save every now and then (when that is possible outside of story missions). There sadly is no quicksave, and while the autosave is pretty decent, you might want to replay a bit or experiment at a specific point without loosing all progress made before due to the autosave slots being reused.
Sometime between levels 10 and 20 or so, enemies will probably feel incredibly strong. Don't let that dis-encourage you! Once you settled on your main powers, skills, and weapons and developed those a bit more, enemies will be no match for your char again.
Personally, I had the most fun when doing almost only the story missions in the beginning, and only started exploring the available planets after the squad was complete. That said, you can fully explore most planets on the first go, but will return to most a second or even more times for various side missions. So stick to whatever you like best in any situation: Neither main story nor side mission, or exploring the planets have a time limit*. And you can come back after you finished the story line.
*There is exactly one assignment that needs to be done before the final story mission.

Try not to be a completionist. I seem incapable of taking my own advise on this, but the game plays a lot better if you mainly stick to the story based missions.

If you play Sara, make her mouth a little bit lower than you want to -- in cut scenes it tends to get scrunched up too close to the nose. Tone down the makeup and scars -- they seem to be more intense in the game than they are in the character creator.
I suggest keeping default dad -- he's the least weird looking father. My Asian Sara had default dad and brother -- she's an IVF baby.
Keep the default name because people will call you by it instead of just saying "Ryder" all the time.
Skip the cryo pod perks that show you more mining zones and hidden chests -- you will get icon fatigue and the chests aren't worth the time. Get the chests only if getting up there amuses you, otherwise skip it. Get the perk that increases your inventory space at least once.
If you see dudes fighting animals or enemies jumping out of shuttles by the side of the road, only fight them if you find it enjoyable, otherwise drive past without stopping. They'll still be there later if you regret not shooting them.
Spend most of your time on priority missions and loyalty missions with sidequests sprinkled in. Only do tasks if you enjoy them for roleplaying reasons. Suppress your completionist tendencies.
Don't spend a lot of time scanning. You'll see [G] or hear a "do wip" noise when scanning is useful. Wandering around slowly with your scanner on all the time gets tedious and it's not necessary.
Read the datapads.
Don't forget to check in with the crew after missions.
I know it sounds as though I'm telling you to skip most of the game -- playing this way yields a 30-40 hour story heavy game rather than the 120 hour "I picked up all the rocks and only got this lousy T-shirt" playthrough. I did a completionist playthrough first and didn't love it. Now I skip most of the stuff I don't enjoy and it's a lot more fun. Do you want a gallon of weak soup or a cup of gravy?
If your squaddies charge into combat and die a lot, you can respec them so they can't use their "charge" power.
If you hate your face you can give yourself plastic surgery in the medbay.
You don't have to pick up all the rocks.
Buy the upgrades to make the Nomad drive faster and boost more as soon as you can.
Don't have your heart set on playing a Renegade equivalent. Ryder can do several ruthless things during the game if you choose, but s/he never has that renegade swagger.
If you're finding Ryder boring, try sprinkling more casual responses into the mix. I found logical/professional dull, logical/casual more fun, and emotional/casual when interacting with non-crew NPCs coupled with logical/professional with the crew really amusing. This does make Ryder sort of immature and mouthy, but Tom Taylorson's delivery is gold.
Talk to your sibling. The twins have good chemistry.
Take everyone in the nomad at least once, even if you don't want to use them in a fight. They have good conversations.

Main missions, character related missions and the "liberation" events on these enemy strongholds are the best. There are boss-like events on each major planet you may want to try.

The only tip is to play at your own speed. In the end, you will be the one who decides if you like the game or not. I will say a couple of things I did like. Speedruns and fighting the kett in a bubble. It was different from just firing enough rounds into the baddie to defeat them.

Since you are apparently on PC, here are some cool mods: - You'll just need this tool set. With it, mods are super easy to use with the game. - Some Fixes- Shut Up SAM (decreases the amount of SAM's pesky temperature and other environmental hazard warnings. doesn't really shut him up completely, so don't worry) - Cursor Fix (for an annoying issue where the mouse cursor may stay on screen after closing menus on PC) There are heaps more mods but most change gameplay or visuals, so they are a matter of taste. Just have a look around.

The most recent ones wont unzip for me, older ones its just a single dll file which i have no idea what to do with. adding mods to bethesda games is my technical skill limit i think, drop this in the data file and go. Cool.

Well, I do not know if the tool set on the Nexus works for me, so I am sorry to hear it does not for you. But after AnDromedary post I started looking through the mods for MEA and I found this page ...
It has quit a lot of recommended mods further down the description page, but also a Link to Frosty Mod manager and the Mod manager itself works perfectly for me. So maybe it works for you to. Here is the Frosty Mod manager link mentioned on that page ... ( And it looks like that one is a newer version of the Mod manager? )

Yep. Frosty Mod Manager is needed to have, then open it, import the mods you have downloaded and press launch. Though I've seen some people have had problems with it.. fessels most of those "MUST HAVE" are a bit game breaking, meaning there is a reason for cooldowns etc. happening just a heads up. I'd mostly use the MEA Fixpack and some animation skipping mods in first gameplay, but thats me

Yeah, I am going through all the skill trees to see how things are done, and based on that I will see what I want to use and what not. I already downloaded the mods mentioned by AnDromedary, and as mentioned I will check out things before I decide what I want to use. Thank you for the warning about it.

Hm, I am not usnig that many mods with Anromeda but the few I do use never gave me trouble. I think Frosty is great because import and management of mods is super easy and it doesn't modify the game files at all, meaning you can alway start your game mod free if you like. fessels : I'd also recommend not to use a lot of gameplay changing mods for your first playthrough. I think the vanilla gameplay is really good and one of the strengths of Andromeda. I think it's more likely to screw something up with mods than to improve. So I recommend sticking to the fixes and maybe some visual stuff you may like. But that's just a suggestion. Otherwise, have fun! One more tip: Don't think too much about what's going on, just enjoy the ride.

Thank you, and I will try to be careful with what I choose.
So Frosty is like a simpler version of Mod Manager for Skyrim. Should I start using a mod that I later do not like can I remove it, or can mods leave something in my save games when I want to remove a mod at any time?

I agree with Unicephalon 40-D, you could try out 7zip / WinRar or Bandizip. ( my personal favourite. ) And you could try re-downloading Frosty, it happens sometimes that for whatever weird reason, a file you downl;oad gets corrupted. ( Not often but it has happened to me a few times. )

Should I start using a mod that I later do not like can I remove it, or can mods leave something in my save games when I want to remove a mod at any time? Most mods, even the few that actually add new stuff can be removed later on without problem. (Though I'd still advise on doing that only after have created a save on the tempest with all new or altered items removed, sold or destroyed, or having Ryder's skills reset in case of power mods.).
The only slightly problematic ones are replacers for items (armour and under armour especially) that lead to loading different status effects. But even those should be relatively save to remove on the tempest.

Thank you very much Krrks.

About the only mods i'd want to add is the one that add MP powers into SP. And if there is one, one where the nomad starts fully modded. I prefer fresh starts to games but the Nomad is painfully slow on any inclines until modded. It doesn't take that long to get there but once you are used to a fast nomad the slow one just really really sucks.

Well I did not install the Power Mod, I want to experience the standard powers first. I might try it on a future play through, but not now. As for the Nomad, well all I know it is an all terrain vehicle similar to the Mako. ( Hopefully better manoeuvrable. ) I will see about the nomad once I have it. ( Please remember no spoilers. )
