I just finished a 2nd playthrough of KotOR. It's been about 3 or 4 years since I played it for the first time, and it still managed to blow me away. It's just such an amazing game. I was impressed all over again with the high quality of dialogue and storytelling. The combat is fun as well, and the combat animations are excellent for such an old game. I'm excited to start up the sequel again, but part of me is already planning a 3rd playthrough of KotOR because it's just that good.

I started a new play through on the iPad the other day. Male light side scout so far. I am still on Taris. Plan to become a Jedi Sentinel but we'll see, maybe I'll go guardian after all, since I plan to take pretty skill oriented companions, so I might invest more in feats for myself. But we'll have to see how far I get. the last time I managed to actually finish a PT was about 10 years or so ago. So, in anticipation of Jedi Survivor I have been replaying Fallen Order over the last week or two and to calm down from the action of that game, I also picked up this 2 year old abandoned KotOR character on the iPad.
Finally made it off Taris (I kinda hate Taris at this point, good riddance ) and all the way to Kashyyk, where I just picked up Jolie Bindo.
I did end up going for a Scout -> Sentinel build and I already feel OP although it's still very early in the game.
Anyway, off to find the first Starmap and stir up some trouble in the Wookie leadership.
By the way, Jennifer Hale's performance as Bastila does sound a little weird nowadays. She seems to really speed through all her lines. I wonder if they gave her voice direction to really go fast back in the day, somehow it sounds a little odd.

But hate Taris it's too long but t's the biggest planet in the game. My favorite planet in this game is Korriban so much history with all of the dead Sith Lords buried there.

Finished Kashyyk and of course I forgot about poor Matton before getting the Wookies all worked up. So missed out on finishing up that quest. Also did Tatooine. I quickly transferred my save from the iPad to the PC in order to do the swoop race. There is just no way to do it on the mobile. Hell, it's super tough to do it even on PC with M/KB. Will have to go through those shenanigans again on Manaan I'm afraid but I do want those sweet sweet racing bonds. 🤑 I decided to not upset the story teller of the sand people and leave them in piece. I know in terms of game mechanics, it makes more sensee to slaughter them all in the end but I'll do this much role playing with me good guy light side Jedi hero. Also, can I just say, I love Jawas? Utinni! Also did a quick trip to the Yavin station and played pazaak with the rodian dude there. Glad that's over with. Now it's off to Manaan and the fish people.

So, Manaan: In order to get access to the Sith base, I did both, the interrogation of the sith prisoner (what a weird mechanic that interrogation has, I had to look it up online, very strange) and the decryption of the passcards. I figured it would be better to use the pass code, I got from the prisoner and pose as an informant inside the base, so I entered through the main door. I got immediately stopped by a security officer, whom I tried to force persuade. The thing is, the force persuasion seems to always fail and she calls the guards on me.
I am wondering if there is any way to force persuade her successfully? Come to think of it, how does force persuasion work in KotOR anyway? Is it a check on some ability/attribute like with normal persuasion? My character has both levels on the mind control force power and pretty high charisma/wisdom attributes. Also, normal persuasion is at skill level 17 or something similarly ridiculous but all that doesn't seem to help at all. Anyone know if there is a way to avoid a fight there or is it just a foregone conclusion?
I couldn't really find much on this situation in walkthroughs or guides, most of them just say "do the fight" but without further explanation.

AnDromedary Is this your first time playing the game? This is the game that made me a Star Wars fan. I have some words of advice avoid looking up character information or walkthroughs, because the game has a great classic Star Wars story and there are many spoilers out there. When you're done with KOTOR are you going to try the sequel? The sequel is very dark and the opposite of the first one in terms of atmosphere. But KOTOR 2 is my favorite Star Wars game of all time. If you do decide to play it play it with at least twom mods. One the TSLRCM mod, this mod restores some of the content that was cut due to a terrible deadline set by LucasArts. The mod also fixes many bugs that were present due to the rushed deadline. The second mod is the 'Community Patch' it fixes the bugs not fixed in the first mod.

This is my first time playing in probably 15 years though.
I am planning to play KotOR 2 as well, yes. Never played it with the restored content mods, so really looking forward to that. But I am thinking of moving from the iPad to Steam with KotOR2 because then I can switch between playing on PC and on the Steam Deck with cloud saves. Might take me while to get there though. As you can see above, this playthrough was on hold for about 2 years on Taris. I thounk I am hooked enugh on KotOR1 right now that I'll finish it quickly at this point (and it's only 2 more planets to go after Manaan anyway). Might take a small break before going on with 2 though, we'll see.

This is my first time playing in probably 15 years though No problem just didn't want the story to be spoiled for you if it was your first time. I bought KOTOR 1 back in 2003 on the original Xbox. It was my first Star Wars game and my first BioWare rpg. Before it I never watched a SW film. Never read a SW novel/comic. But I knew who Luke, Leia, Han, and Darth Vader were. But for some reason the premise of the game had me interested. Then when I saw a commercial for the game on tv and saw Bastila twirl her double bladed saber for some reason that cemented my mind into buying. I bought the game did not understand anything that was going on. I knew what a Jedi was but I did not know what a Sith was or Mandalorian. Oh and it was my first D&D crpg. Long story short I stuck with the game and enjoyed it immensely and grew attached to the companions especially Mission who felt like a kid sister, and Jolee who felt like a cranky grandpa. Afterwards I saw every film released up to that point, and read the Tales of the Jedi comics. When KOTOR 2 was being developed I remember not liking the idea of playing as a new protagonist with new companions. I wanted the old crew back. But like in Mass Effect 2 a decade later I enjoyed the crew in the second game than in the first game. Anyway both games are great imo and still hold up.

AnDromedary Here is a mod build list for both games on PC/Mac/IOS/Android. It is a lot of mods and are lore friendly. But it is the closest thing to an HD remaster with new content we will get. The reflective lightsaber mod is worth the time it takes to install. If you've never used mods with these games and don't know how to install them. Let me know and I'll help. https://www.reddit.com/r/kotor/comments/zh5f1a/kotor_1_2_mod_builds_fully_compatible_modular_mod/

For KotOR2, I already installed some mods (RCM of course and some graphical improvements) but since I am going to switch between my PC and the Steam Deck, I think I'm gonna stick with what's available in the workshop and see how that goes.
BTW: Finally just ended up killing those guards in the Sith base on Manaan and you actually find an implant n the corpse of that security officer which gives immunity to mind control. So that's why my force persuasion failed. Good attention to detail there BW. In the end, I think they made it mandatory to kill somebody before you leave the base because otherwise it wouldn't make sense that the Selkath authorities arrest you as soon as you leave.

Oh, I wouldn't install mods through the workshop. TSLRCM is fine but installing other mods from the workshop cause problem. The link I posted yesterday has a tutorial on how to install mods manually. The method works on all platforms (PC->Android). Also good thing you didn't decide to install during your current playthrough. All mod must be installed on a freshly installed game.

Finished Korriban. It really is the best planetary story in the game. The way you kinda have to deal with and impersonate a Sith but still, you can absolutely stay on the light side is great. Also, since I played it after the Leviathan, I love how you almost always get the option to say "Hey guys, I am Revan, you should all bow before me" even if no one will believe you. And speaking of the Leviathan, always a fun little interlude. I played it with Juhani (who is my usual choice for this. Good combat skills plus self healing, she's perfect to go at it alone for a bit). The big moment of course looses a lot of its splendor if you know what's coming but still, gives me chills thinking back to the first time I played it. Oh, and now that I am getting ready to go to the end game, I read up on some things I didn;t quite remember from back in the day and realized i messed some stuff up. I didn't take along Bastila or Carth enough it seems, so their side quests never trggered and now I am locked out of both of them. Ah well... Also, I am not sure if I should do the Genoharadan quests. I already lost access to Dantooine, so that guy is out of my reach but since I am playing a light side Jedi, I am not sure I want all these dark side points on me. Anyway, just got my two new fancy light saber crystals from Yavin Station and after finishing up a few loose ends, I guess it's off to see where that star map is leading me.

Lore wise: Jedi Shadows are Jedi information gathers and one of their roles is to impersonate Sith while gathering information on them while staying on the Light side. They are a sub sect of Jedi Sentinel. Talking to Bastila and Carth at any location is fine as long as it is before the leviathan. Yes even on the ebon hawk.
Genoharadan quests can be done regardless of alignment. Temple Scene will net your hard light or dark points that make your character a light or dark character.

Also A more Lawful evil Dark Jedi would happily get rid of rivals and Genoharadan can be a pain for any Sith Lords because Genoharadan would protect their power and clients. Conversaly they can be a bane of the Jedi

Surprised by all the hate for Taris, I think it's an amazing intro to the game, with a really interesting concept of having a 'rich' top side an sleazy sub-city run by criminals and an utterly decaying undercity filled with monsters. I always really enjoy Taris, in fact the only part of KotoR where I start to feel little bit burned out is the Unknown World.
But I guess I'm a weirdo as I also love the Peragus Mining Facility of KotoR II, and love the Fade section of Dragon Age Origins.
As for Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor, I do like the idea of these games, the story, and the concept - in fact I'm watching a Many a True Nerd stream of Fallen Order on Youtube right now, but I could never play them myself - just not my kind of game. Far too much platforming (which I hate) and the combat appears to rely mostly on super-fast twitch reflexes and absolute precision aiming - things that I royally suck at.
From a purely mechanical perspective they won't affect you too adversely over the long term if you choose to do them as a light side character. You can take the dark side hit, but easily recoup the light side points afterward.
From a role playing perspective I personally never do them on a light side character, as there is no justification for assassination for one who is following the Jedi code. I've done them on my neutrally-aligned character though as his code was entirely different. I personally never play full darkside as I find the early bioware game morality systems to be rather binary and extreme - kind of a 'Save the burning orphanage and give them your worldly possessions / or / tell the orphans their puppies are dead, stab them in the face, eat them, burn it down, and piss on the remains' kind of extreme.
OK, I'm exaggerating, but you get the idea.

Crazy this game is now 20 years old! It was my introduction to BioWare and Western RPGs and remains one of my all-time favorite games (perhaps only eclipsed by DAO).
Too bad the remake seems to be in rough shape, although I think it was always going to be tough to remake such a classic. I still would love to play with modern graphics and character creation with pretty much the rest left alone.

Recently bought KOTOR 1 & 2, Jade Empire and Dragon age Origins on Steam because they were on offer and I enjoy replaying those games. Unfortunately KOTOR seems to be far less stable for me than it is on console, getting occasional crashes and some pretty bad clipping at times. Dantooine in particular was getting serious graphical issues with the sky box which was due to the grass effects (had to completely turn the effects off to get a stable image). Its a bit disappointing to see quite a few bugs popping up so early in the game, im hoping the issues go away once I progress further.
Still one of my favourite games of all time

I built a new PC at the beginning of the year. Since optical drives are a thing of the past I bought an external Bluray drive this week so I can still play all the older games I have.
First up is KOTOR. I had to go through some hoops following a guide to get things to run OK on a 1440P monitor. So far so good. I did have some crashes so far though that have been annoying, but everything seems to be OK now that I've turned off shadows and grass as well as added a line to the INI file.
I haven't played this game in a little over 15 years and the nostalgia is great. So many little character interactions I forgot about but it all comes back when I start talking with characters.
The soundtrack is fantastic. I absolutely love the Taris Apartment music, which is Bastilas' theme if I recall. Looking forward to the Manaan soundtrack. I remember liking that one as well. Right now I've just landed at Dantooine.
I also remember saving my level ups, thinking I was pretty smart to do so, on Taris. This time I didn't so it'll be interesting to see how different it is this way if I can remember enough to compare it to how I use to play.

I know you're already on Dantooine but there's a Community Patch for KOTOR 1: deadlystream.com/files/file/1258-kotor-1-community-patch/ I use the patch and I've only encountered two bugs in my last playthrough which I finished a couple of days ago. Also if you're planning on playing the second game I recommend to mods that in my opinion are must haves. The first one is The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod. It restores whatever cut content was left on the disc. This is both a good and a bad thing because as Chris Avellone said that not everything the modders restored was meant to be in the final product. But there are two reasons why I recommend it one is that it restores cut scenes for the last planet Malachor, and two it fixes bugs. The second mod I highly recommend is the KOTOR 2 Community Patch Mod. Here are the links to both mods TSLRCM: deadlystream.com/files/file/578-tsl-restored-content-mod/K2CP: deadlystream.com/files/file/1280-kotor-2-community-patch/If you want to mod your games more I recommend following these mod builds guides: kotor.neocities.org/modding/mod_builds/It's a lot of mods but you don't have to install them all. just pick and choose what you want. There are also some tips on how to get both games to run well on modern hardware. I downloaded almost all of the mods listed in the mod builds and followed the tips to make the game perform better on Win 11, and it it is the closest to a remaster I will ever get to play.

It's hard for me to decide which KOTOR I like more, they're both superb and the best SW content by far, even after all this time
