The biggest sci-fi epic in videogame history makes its debut on current gen platforms in 2020. In this massively updated trilogy players will be able to take control of Commander Shepard and the N7 crew as they fight off the Reaper invasion.
This project was interesting in the sense that both parties knew from the start that they wanted to collaborate. We at Abstraction knew we could contribute greatly, and Bioware with EA as the publisher came in with their mind made up, based on our track record. The project hit the ground running in 2020 and has been picking up speed ever since, with its 3rd mutually agreed contract extension taking us well into 2021.
Abstraction’s main task was to help with optimizations and improvements, mostly on graphical related issues. We started out by streamlining things like ambient occlusion, depth of field, motion blur, etc and have since been focused on a host of other graphical improvements – with a hefty portion of bug-fixing on the side.
Mass Effect is a saga for the ages, and Abstraction has been working tirelessly to bring the Trilogy back in top form.
Konstantin Nosov @ugildor I'm super proud to tell that the "unannounced UE3 game project" where I worked over past months is finally announced! [Mass Effect: Legendary Edition]
It's super cool to work on this game together with @bioware team, as a part of @abstractiongame !
BioWare @bioware Your choices. Your squad. Your Shepard. Relive the legend in a remastered edition of the highly acclaimed trilogy. Mass Effect Legendary Edition arrives Spring 2021. blog.bioware.com/2020/11/07/happy-n7-day-4/
Happy N7 Day! by Author -Casey Hudson - VP, Studio GM of BioWare - Posted on November 7, 2020
It’s tough keeping a big secret (and we really struggled to keep this one a surprise) but now it’s official: today we announced the Mass Effect Legendary Edition! We’ve heard (for years!) your requests for a Mass Effect remaster, so we’re super happy to finally reveal that we’ve been working on a remastered edition of the Mass Effect trilogy.
For many months now, our team at BioWare has been hard at work updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games. Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form. It’s been amazing to see the adventures of Commander Shepard take on new life in super-sharp resolution, faster framerates, and beautiful visual enhancements. As game developers, we always hope that our games will transcend their original platforms. Having the opportunity to remaster the trilogy means that the fruits of a decade of our work will live on, and will be experienced better and clearer than ever before.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition will include single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armors, and packs – all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD. It will be available in Spring 2021 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with forward compatibility and targeted enhancements on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. More information to come in the new year!
Meanwhile here at BioWare, a veteran team has been hard at work envisioning the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe. We are in early stages on the project and can’t say any more just yet, but we’re looking forward to sharing our vision for where we’ll be going next.
For me personally, Mass Effect represents years of work and countless special memories, so every year I feel incredibly fortunate to celebrate N7 Day with players around the world. Thank you so much for supporting us over the years. I can’t wait to continue our adventure together – revisiting our favorite memories in the Mass Effect universe, and creating brand new ones!
Yeah .. . I'm currently watching 4 of the community forums I'm engaged with shitting on this. Like, nearly unanimously. Sure, not indicative of the whole picture, but not promising either.
As far as the remaster itself, not even a teaser. I don't think we're getting this in the next quarter. I'm fairly sure the remaster has not been in work that long. Like, ME1 "rework" aside, there is not even a screenshot of what the remaster will look like. I think there has been less than a month of work put into this, so far.
When I die, I want Bioware to carry my casket, so they can let me down, one last time.

Yay? Now every ME will come with ALOT and the ReShade mods installed
Seriously, if it's what i think it is... it will take a good discount to make me buy it (Per example, when AoE2 definitive edition came out, the producers sold it at half price to every AoE2 2013 owners).
Regardless, it's good the chaps at Bio are back to it.

Hmmmh so I assume they aren't going to allow M!Shepard to romance Kaidan from the first game onwards since it's just a graphical remaster.
Either way, very happy for those who are interested in this. I'll probably skip it myself, space is not my thing and ME:A was a terrible introduction to the series lol.

So there is a teaser. At least they updated the character models. Wait, no, these won't be the ingame models. Liara and Miranda look too weird. Yeah, they fucked Liara up real bad in this. Well, at least I hope these won't be the ingame models.

When I say I dread each new BioWare announcement, I do mean I dread every new BioWare announcement. They have a 10 year streak of being shit. They don't get a benefit of the doubt.

Well that was pretty vague for something coming out in Q1 2021. I'm looking forward to it but it seems weir not to have some in game video if you are only a 2-5 months out.
That being said I liked the art for what they were thinking about with the next ME game. Less save the galaxy vibe.

It says "spring" 2021. I'd not wager March. More like May, with an inevitable delay to August, for the 2 years since the Cataclysm Anthem update. This has not been at work since last ... May.

While I’m not as negative on this announcement as others, I do think there are good chances for a delay, given the pandemic. I think there are some chances we’d get a Trailer in December.

Why would we be getting anything in December? The VGAs? That would be reserved for Dragon Age 4. We need to hype up this game that won't be out for another 4 years.

For some reason I remembered Q1 not spring. Yeah spring is apparently march 20 through june 20. I live in a land of no seasons so this whole spring/fall etc stuff is meaningless to me. Still in theory the game isn't too far out I'd expect a bit more. And yeah the only way a remaster has been at work since last may and wont get released until June or whatever would be if there are more significant changes than they are letting on. Most likely they just haven't worked on it that long.

I don't think he is talking about the new game. No one knows when DA4 is coming out, but it's not coming out next year. There is no reason to hype DA4 next month.
