This is Bioware saying "Hey guys, remember when we were good?"
I am dubious as to whether this will even be worth it for PC players as we can already play those games at 4k and high framerates...
If it really is coming Q1, couldn't they show us what exactly is improved?

I'm dying to see the comparisons between platforms. Yet, that's probably not til sometime next year, and I'll probably be preordering before then. It's actually a tougher decision than you think.

Since months it was said the legendary edition was going to be a remaster not a remake and that it would not have ME3 multiplayer, yet people get confused and angry and throw tantrums. This remaster has the console players in mind and those PC ones who can't or don't want to mod, regardless of how easy it might be. It does not invalidate the OG MET or all it's wonderful and many excellent PC mods. They are still here, they still work, they are still being improved and new ones developed. nobody is forcing anyone to buy it. If you don't like it, it's ok not to buy it and enjoy whatever version(s) you might already have. "downgrading" a game to the Nintendo Switch hardware is quite costly, time consuming and not so easy as it sounds. I'm sure EA made the calculation and it's just not viable for them. Game streaming or a halfway decent laptop/Surface type device with a controller gives you options for on the go, even today. Rant over... I'll be picking up the Legendary Edition for sure for one of the new Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5 consoles and appreciate the freedom to choose the console I'd prefer and have an updated MET available to enjoy. I will keep my modded MET on PC and enjoy that too. sidenote: I've had the PS3, Xbox and PC versions of the MET, the later two platforms physically and digitally.

The problem that will cause is which one would be choosen to be canon. Not if they still don't continue in the Milky Way post-Shepard.
Thought on ME1: If they added at least some reverse continuity stuff, it'd be worth getting. Like, making male Shep Kaidan a thing, even if its only flirtation and doesn't go beyond that.
Or, for me, more Garrus/fem!shep content. An additional conversation or something. I dunno. I'm not picky.
But yeah, if you add more foreshadowing(???) that can flow better from ME1 into the romances of ME2 onwards, I'd likely buy the pack in a heartbeat.
That's no tlikel ygiven I've read somewherelse on her that the VA's haven't been involved in the remastering process. I hin kit's mainl yth egraphic san din som ecases the gameplay that's been tweaked that's all.

I agree tha ttheir needed to be a rerelease fo rthe Playstation due to no backwards compatibility. But for PC and Xbox player's I'm not suer it was really needed. If it's going t oget moer an minor interest though it's going t oneed t obe moe rthan just a texture touchup. Which tbh I suspect that's all it will be.

I might choose Playstation for Mass Effect's permanent home. The only thing I'm worried about, and this is crazy I know, is the the Remaster on PS4 is just a new version on the PS3 port, which had a few issues. I know it's unlikely. Hopefully it's fully a Remaster from the original source files.

They won't be changing the main thing that nuked this franchise to begin with, so my interest is almost zero. I feel the exact same way. They may hope to attract new players but some of them will be asking around; hey is this any good? And out comes the spoilers; yeah, it's good for the most part except for the !!!!@@bobobobo rainbow at the end. No prizes for guessing new players' reactions / response.

I'll be getting this, as I love the journey, even if the end was lacking. Sure, the whole red/green/blue thing was a turnoff, but I'll be damned if I'm going to call the entire franchise 'ruined' because of that. The journey from ME1 to ME3 is worth it, even if the end is just a throw-away wrap-up. I've had everyone survive (as much as possible) and killed everyone I could possibly kill, and the different experiences in there are wonderful. I don't care about the end, I care about the journey overall.
I play on PC, but I also own ME3 on xbox (for that sweet, sweet me3mp lovin'). I've modded my PC versions, to get some enhanced textures, hairstyles, whatever... and the tools and mods are great, but they can also be finicky and annoying. This release will (apparently) also include all the bonus content and DLC, which some people never did get the chance to buy/play. I can honestly admit that I'm lazy and I just want a great out-of-the-box experience without having to massage a bunch of mods to get there. Great for you if you don't mind dealing with that, but I can't be bothered. I'll buy the games again to get there. I've already bought ME1 and ME2 twice, and ME3 4 times.
Totally worth it to me, I'm excited, and I'll be picking this thing up, even if my beloved ME3MP won't be included.

I mean this is basically a 4K texture pack for the trilogy with some optimization for newer systems. I’ll probably get it, but I think everyone should have appropriate expectations.

Changing an ending in a remaster/remake of a game is not unheard of. Persona 5 vs Persona 5 Royal comes to mind. The problem that will cause is which one would be choosen to be canon. Realistically, the most I would expect is just tweaking up the Extended Cut’s revisions a bit further to clean it up, like organizing the beam run better, maybe a few more assets used for the sequence that occurs with each choice. Like, instead of a breath scene, the reveal is a bit more definitive of Shepard’s presumed survival, like maybe even seeing the character’s face and having them actually open their eyes to say “Hey I’m still alive”. Anything more than that ain’t never gonna happen.

I'm not sure why people are catching feelings so hard about this. It's not like people weren't asking for a remaster, and now they've [BioWare] done one. They're not going to change the ME3 ending, and even if they did, then people would just complain that BioWare can't help but retcon major plot points of their franchises. Changing the ending of ME3 would also invalidate the reasonings behind the Arks being built in order for the Andromeda Initiative to move forward. No galaxy threat means no reason for MEA (which I know some people would want).
Damn near every remaster is a "Same shit. Better graphics," experience. Nothings changing folks, and the dynamics behind the game are as simple as "buy if you're interested, or look the other way if you're not". Not sure if I'll pick it up since I've gotten dozens of playthroughs across ME2 and ME3 alone. I'm sure there will be the relatively younger crowd, or those who never thought to play it, who will give it a shot.

I'm not as hyped as some of you, but I do think it's cool that they did this, since people have been asking for it for a while.

I really don't understand how by now people don't understand what a remaster is and what to expect from it. I have read a few different boards today and I think this is why we cannot have nice things, BioWare is being upfront on what this is going to be and what they are including in this package. Sadly these reactions are probably the biggest reason why I was skeptical BioWare would want to do this, but hopefully its just a small group and those that are interested wind up purchasing it so future remasters might happen.

I'm excited. Haven't played ME2 and ME3 (playthroughs to get Insanity achievements) since June 2013. Haven't played ME1 since July 2015 when I did a playthrough on the Xbox One once it became backward compatible. Needless to say playing through an upgrade version after so long has me hyped.

I'm sure there will be the relatively younger crowd, or those who never thought to play it, who will give it a shot. But it won't address the elephant in the room which it was the ending, and how Andromeda was nothing but a ME1 rehash. The reason why I'm upset with BioWare is that they do not learn from their mistakes, or going over what needs to be fixed. They're just throwing a remaster like some of us would have memory loss. Which it is a big "fuck you" from BioWare.

It would be better if they do a remake instead of a remaster. It's a lazy way of not fixing and improving parts of the trilogy. I mean, putting aside for a second the endings (which I don’t personally think would’ve changed anyways, even with a remake.) it’s obvious that a remake would be better, for numerous reasons. On the point later made on being a ‘cash grab’...every remake or remaster has this as their primary goal. They want to make money off highly successful and popular games from the past. Granted, a remake is better because you can likely fix the mistakes made in the past, or modernize some mechanics, but for a full remake, you need a lot more of money and time to work on it, and on those matters, the decision is in EA’s ballpark, not Bioware. Returning on the topic of the endings, as I said, I don’t think they’d have changed them even in a remake situation. As they did with the EC, and Leviathan, they could’ve worked more on giving more information, foreshadowing or explanations in the game, or not have them being a simple A,B,C choice, but I don’t see any scenario where they’d have changed them, because, as far as I know, they never said that they were wrong. I don’t honestly see this remaster as a ‘fuck you’ from BioWare, but I can see why lost of people won’t buy it because it’s not a remake. m

I don't think you have to worried about them being separate installs, even on an Xbox or PC + and it will be a fresh install on PS4 and PS5 anyway.
I do think however, they MIGHT remove the option to purchase the "OG versions" from their origin, steam and xbox stores once the MET legendary edition with all DLC and former predorder/bonus content is available in 1 convenient package. If you've downloaded them in the past I'm sure they will still be available in your account regardless.
