Binged The Flash Season 7.....I actually quite enjoyed it. Not as good as the earlier seasons, I think Season 1 and 2 are still my favourite......Season 4 had it rough patches, but overall I hve really enjoyed The Flash on a whole as a series. And ARROW. LoT....I enjoyed the first 3 seasons, but after that it got really stupid really quickly so I have given up on that show. And now that ARROW is over (though I have all 8 seasons on BD), The Flash is the only comic book show I watch. Looking forward to Season 8.
I need to get into The Bad Batch though, because I thoroughly enjoyed Clone Wars and REBELS.

I really enjoyed it, and now I’m just not interested in the rest. Or, more accurately, I’m not interested in the rest of the Arrowverse, and not hyped for the MCU, despite having enjoyed a lot of their post-Endgame offerings.

Since we don't have a movie/tv news thread, I guess this is as good a place as any to post the return of the best contemporary showrunner of Dr. Who back to the series This is magnificent news. There is, presently, light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully, the 2023 (estimated) Dr. Who season will make up for Chinballs' past two years of unequivocal damage. I'm, at least, curious to see how this pans out.

Finished - Under The Power, period investigative Cdrama. One of the better non-historical cdramas I've seen so far. As far as I can tell, historical dramas from China are excellent; production values and cast. Non historical dramas depend largely on the setting and plot. I've been avoiding the fantasy cdramas because they're filled with flashy fighting and splashy CGIs. Plots about warring gods and demons tend to be air filled pastry with a love story the main focus. Not what I want for tea. Under The Power is filled with mysteries / cases that are all interconnected. They're well written though there are some parts that step into the supernatural. A point in its favour is the ending is good, all questions answered and no loose ends. I'm tired of watching cdramas that are interesting but end in a lousy way / abruptly / fail to tie ends properly. I went searching for another cdrama and saw a contemporary one about cops. The beginning was interesting, the narrator broke the fourth wall as she spoke of investigative prerogative; to achieve the goal with all means. After that, it went to show a swat team and police officers responding to a terrorist alert. I when all the vehicles came to a dramatic neat stop. The swat team got out; Yes sir!! etc, cut to a man talking to a young girl. All of a sudden, he's surrounded by, not the swat team, but cops (without protective vests or anything. just regular unifroms) surrounded him in a ring, pointed their pistols at him and told him he's under arrest. It's so dumb and lame I knew it's a waste of time to try watching it further. I dropped it immediately.

Last night I watched "Cruella" with Emma Stone and Emma Thompson. I think Emma Stone nailed the role, and it was an interesting take on the backstory to the character we had previousl only known as the wicked heiress from the Disney cartoons, so this was a story about 'how and why' she became to be as she was in the cartoons.....So on that level, I would rank it as being as well done as Angelina Jolie in Maleficent (same kind of story idea detailing the backstory of a character we already know).
But it wasn't the kind of movie that I would say "Oh that was amazing! Totally the Best Film of the Year!" and it's not the kind of movie that I wuold rush out to buy and MUST own.

Battle for Terra 2007 Got reminded of this movie, decided to rewatch it. It's the type of simple entertainment that I imagine falls under a lot of peoples radar. Story is very similar to Cameron's Avatar. Cast is pretty good, Evan Rachel Wood starring with Luke Wilson. Danny Glover and Chris Evans show up too. It's also, for the time, quite pretty. Few more screenshots ↓

Sci-Fi Short Film: "Slaughterbots". In a dystopian world a new form of A.I. weaponry has been created. All these drone bots need is a profile: age, sex, fitness, uniform, and ethnicity. Nuclear is obsolete. Take out your entire enemy virtually risk free. Just characterize him, release the swarm, and rest easy.Slaughterbots is a 2017 arms-control advocacy video presenting a dramatized near-future scenario where swarms of inexpensive microdrones use artificial intelligence and facial recognition to assassinate political opponents based on preprogrammed criteria. The video was released onto YouTube by the Future of Life Institute and Stuart Russell, a professor of computer science at Berkeley, on 12 November 2017. The video quickly went viral, gaining over two million views. The video was also screened to the November 2017 United Nations Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons meeting in Geneva.

Sci-Fi Short Film: "FTL". A lone astronaut testing the first faster-than-light spacecraft travels farther than he imagined possible.Ethan Kane, a NASA Astronaut and decorated pilot, has recently retired from active duty to spend more time with his wife and young son. As he tries to adjust to a quieter life on the ground, he’s approached to fly one last mission... testing the first faster-than-light spacecraft. While the world watches, Kane takes The Longshot on its maiden voyage. After reading the YouTube comments, I have noticed that most people didn't spot the subtle quantum teleportation problem. The commander tells to his wife (at around the 13:30 mark) "It's me". However, at the 13:50 mark you'll see a wire frame near his eye for a second. To me that indicates the beaming to earth didn't simply move him there. Is he a copy or something else? In theory such teleportation would kill the original at the source and rebuild a copy at the destination.

Watched another show, with Starbuck and Goku.
It's a little predictable, it's done before, the production isn't all that. Doesn't stop Katee Sackhoff from giving it her 250%. Justin Chatwin is not terrible. Shocking, I know. Shelma Blair is in it, too, but in a much smaller capacity. The cast are all solid performers. Various character deaths at random, so be prepared to see a character you like, get snuffed. Still, predictable. There are aliens, you do get to see them, some of them, anyway. It doesn't really make sense, what their motives are, because, well, they do have the ability and the knowledge to do what they should, according to their characterization and motivation, yet for no real reason, choose not to. Since season 2 premiers next week, we might get a reason as to why that happens, I don't think the writers thought about it, at all and I don't expect to see it answered, instead, opting for a more generic plot. Which is disheartening, to say the least. Watch it if you want to see Katee Sackhoff give it her best. And for a nude shot back shot of her body double. As well as a naked back shot of Justin Chatwin's body double.
Btw, Justin is really hairy. Which I did not see coming. Dude just ... get a razor, please. That hair is not aesthetic. Trust me on that. I mean, I should have seen it coming, Monkey King and all, but still.

I wouldn't call it worse than Discovery. It does have the merit of it being its own IP and not tarnishing Star Trek's former good name as much as it has. It has some ideas that it does a mediocre job at pulling off. There is a good idea in there somewhere, but I think they sabotaged it with the "plot twist" reveal. Which is something that you're hoping wouldn't happen, because it sabotages so much of the show. There's a lot of bad decisions made that I wish had not been made, but overall, I've seen Netflix do much worse. Boy, have I seen Netflix do much worse.
It's a very "progressive" show, which might put off some people more than others, as well. Personally, I wasn't bothered. But the writing talent is really lacking.

Just finished watching "Alita: Battle Angel" on Netflix (though I have it on BD)....that's such a great movie, one that I never get tired of watching. Though I'm still annoyed at the ending, how abruptly it ended. I understand that they shot it that way because they had had a sequel in mind....but who knows if or when the sequel will ever get made. I do wish they would make one though, with Rosa Salizar as Alita of course! She nailed that role.

Finished Love Is True.
As I expected, the main female character stayed true to her aspirations and her values. The backstabber recovered, admitted she was wrong and mended their relationship. The third recovered from her lost, picked herself up and mended her relationship with her husband.
Overall, a good story, a good cast.
Going to a historical Cdrama next on Wang Zhaojun.

Ugh, messy. The Wang Zhaojun YT upload is disjointed and not complete. Bleh. Moving to another called Bloody Romance. Title already freaks me out. Not sure what it is but opening is promising. Main lead comes a poor family though from the look of her house, you wouldn't think so. Too clean and neat. Anyway, she scrounges around, dead bodies even, for anything to sell to get money to buy food for herself and family (father, younger brother). Her father tells her to deliver a bag of medicinal herbs to the brothel. Unfortunately, the father has sold her to the brothel and this is his way of delivery. The bouncer takes her to a room. She struggles and is knocked out. When she wakes, she finds the bouncer collecting her blood in a cup. She fights back and runs. Ill luck she runs into an army commander who's looking for entertainment. The girls bored him but one look at her panicked face is enough to rouse his perversion. He ties her up. The dancer who was entertaining him earlier, interrupts him before he could go further. The dancer kills the commander via unusual means before her eyes. The dancer unties her and she begs for help. However, the dancer tells her that she will help provided she can escape the brothel. If she succeeds, she is to go to a certain place by a river. The dancer then hypnotises her and disappears. With the commander's men downstairs, she puts on his armour. As they're very drunk, they mistook her for the commander. She runs to the stable to get a horse. The brothel madam brings wine to the commander, sees his corpse and raises the alarm. The men chased after the figure with the armour on the horse. Once they're gone, she gets on another horse and heads for the location she's given. Not a bad beginning. I'm already intrigued by the place she lands in.
