5.1 systems that have HDMI input I tried to search systems like this, and there doesn't seem to be any. Apprently you are not supposed to use HDMI for 5.1 surround sound? Some systems do have HDMI throughput, but they don't support 5.1 audio, ie. you get video and stereo sound only. I have a hunch that for copyright reasons you are supposed to use the digital out and run it straight to the 5.1 decoder. Don't tell me I not supposed to do something because I will figure out a way to do it.

I've always like BOSE, Boston Accoustics, B & W, Klipsch, Wharfdale and old school companies like Patterson and McIntosh or Martin Logan. As for Amplifiers, I like Yamaha, Denon, Marantz and of course premium companies like Nakamichi which is only in Japan. Though I have heard that Marantz has severely dropped in quality over the years. All good brands (although I don't like Bose much ). Would add Sony, Technics, NAD, Quad, Pro-Ject, Naim and Rotel. Again more companies to look at thank you for info.

Do you happen to know any 5.1 systems that have HDMI input like the second one above? I think I finally got this. So your setup is going to be like this: GPU -> HDMI -> Audio Extractor -> HDMI -> 5.1 system -> speakers And your budget for the 5.1 and speakers is under $300. And therein lies the problem, because there isn't much to be had for that price. Are you sure you don't want to use an external sound card with an optical input? BTW, I checked the Logitech Z906 and it doesn't have HDMI either, just optical and coaxial inputs.First thing first -about the Z906: Secondly you are almost right: GPU>HDMI Cable>Speakers Or
GPU>HDMI Cable> HDMI Extractor > 3.5mm to RCA Cables > RCA cables> 5.1 Speakers
Either of these is preferred. My current setup is: USB 5.1 DAC > 3.5 mm > Z506
Thirdly optical is using light to move the sound. Remember the thing about kids here. Pull and bend are a natural occurrence.
Optical would not last long... Unless I were to buy maybe 500 of them that could last a few months.

Do you happen to know any 5.1 systems that have HDMI input like the second one above? Do you know anything about the Moukey or Rockville brands? My budget right now is $275 if it helps.
That said you have given me options to look into now and I will update accordingly.
I've onl;y recently come across those brands (Moukey, Rockville), but have no knowledge of them. The only 5.1 Amplifer that I know of that has HDMI In/Out supporting 5.1 channels is the Yamaha V385. Here in Canada at stores like The Brick (whole sale discount stores) it sells for 349.99 CAD. Denon is a really good brand but they are quite expensive here in Canada and most recently only support a minimum of 7.1 (up to 13.2) channels and the most top notch formats and inputs/outputs. My suggestion is try Yamaha. Well was trying to avoid an amplifer -see above.

Though they way out of my budget
I think I will keep looking for cheaper but if I can't actually find a setup... Maybe after taxes in March...

All good brands (although I don't like Bose much ). Would add Sony, Technics, NAD, Quad, Pro-Ject, Naim and Rotel. Yes, I agree....I would also have added NAD, Technics (a Div. of Panasonic which I've awlays liked on many levels), Quad and Naim if I didn't have to type-and-dash so those were the only companies I could immediately think of. Adding to this list now, I can also think of Paradigm, Cambridge, Canton, Wharfdale, Monitor Audio, Cerwin Vega, Rotel, Velodyne, OKEF, Roksan, Rockford Fosgate, Polk Audio, Furman, Sunfire, Harmon Kardon, JBL, and TEAC. If we are adding Car Audio, I also like Mark Levinson, Bang & Olufssen and Blaupunkt. The list goes on.... This is a privately-owned, family run Home Theater and Electronics store whose owners/founders my dad has known since 1980. This is the store where I bought my first stereo system with my own money in 1998. A 75-watt Amplifier and a seperate 5-disk CD Changer (both from TEAC), and 6" bookshelf speakers from Design Accoustics. The CD player was 349.99 I got for 200, the Amp was 399.99 I got it for 150.00 and the speakers were 300 for the pair, I got them for 100.00. I had the CD player for five years, and every year I had to replace the chip that drove the tray....it was 75.00 dollars CAD to replace it every year, so I figured it would be less expensive in the long run to buy a new CD player. Then in 2003, my dad bought me the PD600 from Technics. It was a 500 dollar unit at the time. It's now 10x less than that on ebay. I still have the TEAC amp and DA Speakers. tabangi.com/EN/products/ Good. More input.
I keep looking.

I'm currently on vacation in Los Angeles and Vancouver so I don't really have time to read too much of it, but I can tell you how I set up my home theater's 5.1 system plus Dolby Atmos add-on speakers.
I have a Home Theater PC that's hooked to an Onkyo receiver through HDMI. The speakers that I use are Aperion's 5.1 system plus a pair of Pioneer's ceiling firing speakers for Dolby Atmos.
The video card in the Home Theater PC and the Onkyo receiver support multi-channel LPCM output through HDMI, so I can even play PC games plus all the surround sound goodness without encoding the surround audio into a compressed digital format like Dolby Digital or DTS. So yes, 5.1 PC gaming can work over HDMI natively if your setup supports it. Movies and video game consoles don't have that problem because nowadays they all support Dolby Digital and DTS.
My entire home theater setup cost me a couple thousand dollars and that didn't even include my $2000 TV. I had to drill holes to wall mount the front speakers and ceiling mount the rear speakers. I also had to install plastic moldings to hide the cables.
So yeah, if you want to do everything properly and professionally, it's gonna be expensive and a pain in the ass. For PC gaming, it is so much easier and a whole lot cheaper to just use analog connections with a sound card (or onboard sound) and that's exactly what I do on my main gaming PC. That's all I'll say.

Well I did find a way to go with HDMI through the GPU: Connect the HDMI other end to this:
And this via the speakers: Problem is there is no guarantee of it giving the subwoofer enough power to then apply to the passive speakers above. Not to mention it is getting expensive especially with trying to find alternative active speakers with applicable connections. Most are still blasted wires -furthermore don't know much about Acoustic Audio. Speakers with RCA are short and far between -unless I want to spend an arm and a leg. I think I may be using this to get around the speaker wires:

don't know much about Acoustic Audio They seem sus. Apparently the brand has been associated with White van speaker scams. Speakers with RCA are short and far between -unless I want to spend an arm and a leg. That's because they are active speakers, meaning they have built-in amps. RCA cables are meant to carry line signal only; that's about 1.5V. The ones in the picture look hefty enough though.

That stupid silver thing -or whatever it is shot up a $100![/div] I am about just throw up my hands and go cheap and get the Z906 and plug it into the USB audio... Via those wire cables with RCA and these: To connect the speaker and system.
So speaker wire > wire-rca > Connect to coupler < Wire RCA < subwoofer speaker output. That would alleviate the wires getting ripped out and damaging speakers or subwoofer. Is this a more sane plan than trying to work this HDMI craziness?

So, late to the party, can I do a re-summary post here to try to get a better idea of what's going on? Here's what I think is happening...
End goal: Good 5.1 or 7.1 surround output (I'm not sure if 7.1 or 5.1 was intended)
Constraints: $250-300 budget Flexible/unbreakable interconnect
I'm slow and I admit I only skimmed back a couple of pages, can you sum up what you've already bought/have available?

Your correct: 7.1 / 5.1 -either is preferred. Though due to price -5.1 is seeming more likely.
Though the budget is now $350 max for everything: Speakers, subwoofer and everything. I finally have access to Amazon again for the next few weeks -so what ever they got.
Nothing has currently been purchased.
This is not for a TV theater system. Its for use on PC -once you run 5.1 on PC you never want 2.0 again. I have been using the Logitech Z506 through a 7.1/5.1 USB DAC.
The TLDR info:
The trouble is the Z506 is dying -the two side speakers have failed. I have reconfigured to what would be probably 3.1 -its rather distorted.
I have been waiting to replace it till I built a new system -which I am doing now month by month.
I have had bad issues with motherboard audio in the past so went with the USB audio DAC.
Though as of right now I can't find the Z506 new -don't want to buy audio used.
Had the subwoofer go kablooey three days after the last time I did that. Was thinking of trying to go HDMI from the GPU straight to the speakers.
That however apparently requires in most cases an amplifier and or a receiver.
Unless I were to get the Moukey 51-1 -which has an HDMI input possibility on the subwoofer.
IF that 5.1 system was ever in stock anyway. The other issue is that speaker wires are dangerous around here.
Young kids yank out cords of speakers/subwoofers/amps/receivers. Usually causes damage to the them if its speaker wires.
So would need some thing like an "interconnect" you mention that would allow the wires to be transformed into RCA or even dreaded 3.5.
So that should they pull them it will only remove the 3.5 or RCA but leave the wire connections at the speakers and system unaffected.
So maybe a breakable ???interconnect??? is that what it would be called? Thank you for your time regack .

I have to admit I don't have anything that wins the award... my instinct is to get bits and pieces over time, and while it's not for a whole home theatre system, I'd be inclined to get parts to do that anyway, just not necessarily all at once. I'm not sure how all of the satellites connect back to the Z506, so I'm wondering if it's possible to replace just those, maybe with some other speakers. I have a set of these $50 Micca Covo-S speakers for my work pc, but it's just for music or ambient sound, not for anything srsbsns, but if it was just a speaker replacement, that might get you by for only $50 and some wiring. They have nice clear sound, especially on a usb dac amp. So while looking up some info on the Z506 I did just stumble on Amazon having a sale price on the Z906 for $300... I have no experience with this or the one you have, but it might just end up being a straight swap and within the budget. I'll keep looking in the meantime, bit busy this weekend.

The Z506 has got the standard 3.5mm jack input for 5.1 Green, Yellow and Black. It also has proprietary outs to the speakers: Each speaker has a different connection cord and plugs into speakers. The speakers must be passive since they are hard cord wired and don't require a separate power wire. I use it in conjunction with: The Z906 however has the same inputs but all the outputs are speaker wires:

No problem take your time. Waiting if necessary are my instincts as well.
Though with the headache of trying to go the HDMI route and avoid the speaker wire -see first idea:

I think I may just keep using the USB DAC and pipe it through: Logitech Z623 for front and Subwoofer. 3x Creative Inspire T10 for center, side and rear. This will eliminate the Speaker wire to rca issue all-together. This will run less than $250. Is this better?

I've never really looked in this audio space before, so it's interesting to me how few options there are available. I'm finding most of the kits have rather proprietary connections, like in the Z623 there the speaker with the controls on it has a DB9 connector, then RCA for the other speaker, and RCA or 3.5mm for input. Having said that, if you already have the USB DAC that has the 3.5mm outputs for the 5.1 (or is it 7.1 capable) then you can just get the various speakers to plug into that. With this setup it would be a bunch of powered monitor speakers, so you can do individual channel volume control, which could be nice. I assume you'd get 3X T10s, but only use the powered one as the sound source for each channel? You can get pretty long USB cables, which will pull apart if being yanked on/tripped over, so maybe a couple of extensions with a breakpoint where the USB can be yanked out...

Yes the USB DAC is 7.1 capable. Though the jacks in it force both the L&R channels through the same port: IE: Green L&R Front Silver L&R Side Black L&R back.
The one that concerns me is the yellow that is supposed to be Center/Sub... Considering that I would use the z623 which has sub in the green front... IF I plug the T10 into it would it want to be bass boost or just function as center channel?
