hammer, a blow torch and a pair of wire cutters... Over the years I seem to remember using a drill with metal bits, tin snips, multi-tool, a very large hammer and a grinder. It ain't always so dainty, folks. And don't get me started on carrying power workstations; those can weigh over 50 lbs.

Plus reach ... don't forget reach. And TuTus too? I don't think we're in Asus anymore. Auntie Em, it's a twister! A Twister! Oh look there's a sale at Penny's! ... Anyone run a Plex server for their parents/friends so they can enjoy your collection? I would have likely at most 3 streams at any one time, and they will be on devices that can direct play the content. I don't understand much about how transcoding works/when transcoding happens, and so I don't know how much gas I need to put into the HTPC/NAS hybrid I would build to do it. From what little I do understand, since the devices they would be watching on are smart TVs, transcoding shouldn't be necessary but I have also read that that is just in a perfect world scenario. I think there are more factors involved and it very quickly goes over my head. From my understanding, modern Intel processors are the way to go here because Quick Sync, but I will have some modern low power GPU in the box, probably a 3050, so I could use HW encoding on that rather than the CPU. I have an old case that will serve nicely (Lian Li PC-C33B), but I will need a new mobo, ram, CPU and GPU. Just can't find barebone deals like you used to anymore ... Sorry for long wind, but question 2 - I see the recent discussion has turned to RAM. Good. I would think undervolting safely would be the best approach to RAM longevity, not necessarily underclocking. However, I want to do neither. For those with Ryzen, do you use PBO? Do you use Ryzen Master? Early on when I built my current gaming rig, Windows fruited out at some point and XMP profile was turned off. Since then, I uninstalled Ryzen Master and haven't really thought much about it, but playing CP2077 again I have been disturbed and annoyed by large FPS drops when opening the map, in congested areas, etc... and my system should laugh at all that. 32gb 3600 gskill, 5600/3070 x trio, Aorus x570. Sure, it is a demanding game, but my thought was maybe this is a little ram-related? Now I need to find where I left my tutu

Now I need to find where I left my tutu Have you tried shutting down any non-essential Services in the System Tray? When my games are stuttering (and I have a 10-900KF with similar DDR4 from GSKILL paired with a 2080 Super Ultra Gaming)...which they don't generally, but when they do, the first thing I look at is what is eating up processing and memory in the System Tray and close down any non-essential Services such as Samsung Magician, CCleaner and whatnot. I also have my Gaming Services such as Origin, Steam and Razer set to free up RAM and Optimize Gaming Performance. I'm not entirely familar with AMD models and platforms but they 're build are something similar to the new 12 series from Intel....then your system should laugh mockingly. I have heard though from a friend who has CP2077 that it is not very well optimized so it eats up GPU VRAM and System RAM, so even on a top-tier rig from anything built around the 10, 11, 12 series from Intel (or AMD equivalent)....expect performance flux.

Have you tried shutting down any non-essential Services in the System Tray? ... I also have my Gaming Services such as Origin, Steam and Razer set to free up RAM and Optimize Gaming Performance. So, Windows Game Mode is supposed to do that for you, and mostly does. In my case, I had forgotten something specific to Cyberpunk and some other games - you need to turn off Nvidia GeForce Experience, because it is eating memory all the time in case you want to do a quick instant replay dealio or whatever they call it - a feature that is essentially always running a little DVR on your GPU whenever GFE is active. This is worth it, when you are planning on recording gameplay. Not at all worth it for me with this game, since the game has a nice photo mode built-in and I don't see myself making gameplay videos of this anytime soon. So, because I have a hole where good chunks of memory used to be, I had forgotten that I already knew the answer to my problem in this case. Instant FPS improvement that is obvious immediately. Sheesh I feel a little dumb on that one, but I guess I turned GFE on again at some point to record a different game. Derpity Doodle Doo!

I think there are more factors involved and it very quickly goes over my head. I have a home theater PC that I use as a bittorrent seed box and Plex server as well. The CPU in that machine is a bit old (Intel i7 4790K), so I use a Quadro P2000 for transcode. I believe you need Plex Pass to use hardware transcoding and the lifetime Plex Pass is usually on sale. However, I can't really recommend getting a workstation GPU like the P2000 solely for Plex. Unless you're able to get a good deal on one, any cheaper GPU like the 1050 Ti would do just fine.

Sure, it is a demanding game, but my thought was maybe this is a little ram-related? It's not RAM-related at all. Every PC struggles hard to run Cyberpunk because it is basically a stress test for your entire PC. I play the game only at 1440p with most of the graphics settings on high or max, DLSS on quality, and the framerate still tanks to 40-50 FPS in some areas in Night City. My PC definitely doesn't laugh at it. As for the system stability, I also had to tweak a couple things in the BIOS to make it 100% stable. I believe we also had a discussion in this thread. I had to disable Power Down Mode for the RAM. I also had to manually tighten the tRC timing because it was way off. If you're having stability issues with XMP/DOCP, you can also try increasing the RAM voltage. If they're rated 1.35v, you may try 1.36v or 1.37v and see if that makes any difference. For my 5950X, it was a completely different beast than the 5900X that I got for my brother. The 5900X didn't need any tweaking at all. I just enabled XMP, turned on PBO, and it ran perfectly fine. My 5950X on the other hand, could boost to 5.05ghz all day with one of its CCDs (all eight cores) without any WHEA errors. But as soon as PBO was enabled, the temperatures went through the roof even with an undervolt through the Curve Optimizer. The EK 360 AIO could cool it just fine but the fans were too loud for me. So now I'm running it at the stock settings without PBO. I prefer having a relatively quiet gaming PC. The other thing I had to disable for the 5950X was the PSS Support. PSS is an AMD power saving feature but I don't think it works correctly with the 5950X. A lot of users are reporting stability issues with it enabled, but you can keep it enabled or set to auto with your 5600X.

There were issues about a year ago where CP2077 DID have memory leak issues with Ray Tracing on. Maybe turning RT off and then back on may fix it??? He does have G.Skill RAM so it should be 1.35v base. Anything that fluctuates the voltage to components like Power Down Mode RAM should be disabled.

Cyberpunk 2077 is probably the best game to showcase ray-tracing. It is beyond gorgeous with ray-traced reflections. The memory leak issues have been fixed a long time ago. Version 1.5 of the game also added local ray-traced shadows, and I suspect they are the cause for most of the performance drop. I used to get much better framerate before version 1.5. For me, Cyberpunk 2077 is meant to be played with ray-tracing. After all I built this PC specifically just to do that. Also keep in mind that some 5900X owners are reporting the same random restarts and WHEA errors that a lot of 5950X get. Everything is a silicon lottery and every CPU is different. I just simply got lucky with my 5900X and 5950X. Your mileage may vary.

Yeah I have read that people started complaining about it again in February of this year... As I read more and more peoples' issues it seems the game is poorly utilizing memory -both RAM and GPU VRAM. The latter more specifically... It seems like the GPU VRAM is actually being horded with RT on. The GPU may not be dumping texture files no longer in use and its clogging GPU memory. What I meant was when it starts to take a dump -go to menu -disable RTX -go back to game -go back to menu and re-enable. May be tedious but it would sure save the time of launching the game after having to close it. Unless CDPR did it on purpose so people would need to restart their computers to make way for SkyNet to come online.

I should have mentioned that I am playing at 1440p. Good info on your experience running a Plex server bmwcrazy, I do have a lifetime Plex pass got it cheap a while ago. I never use Plex, Kodi plays everything here at home locally but Plex will simplify things for the older people that will stream remote. I will continue looking for a deal on a 10th gen i5, ram and a board. At least GPUs have come down nicely, I will grab a Phoenix single fan soon. Amazing performance for that form factor, and if I game on it it will be on Nvidia Gamestream from my gaming PC so I don't need an amazing GPU. This will be a nice refresh on this build. What should I do with the old guts? Fully functional P55 motherboard, i7 860 and 16gb DDR3. I could donate them, but I don't know who wants that stuff. No real value in selling it.

What I meant was when it starts to take a dump -go to menu -disable RTX -go back to game -go back to menu and re-enable. The VRAM usage for me usually hovers just below 8GB. It's the same for everyone. The memory leak issues that you're talking about have already been fixed. I can play the game for hours and still get the same performance. I've tried that turning off and on ray-tracing settings as well. It's just the way it is. This game can still use some optimization.

Like a dedicated Windows XP machine for older games and other software, but you only need 4GB of RAM for the 32-bit XP.

It seems like the GPU VRAM is actually being horded with RT on. The GPU may not be dumping texture files no longer in use and its clogging GPU memory. What I meant was when it starts to take a dump -go to menu -disable RTX -go back to game -go back to menu and re-enable. I am almost tempted to get it just to push the limit to stop that phrase... That phrase just seems so self-defeating... Again I am ALMOST tempted.

This will be a nice refresh on this build. What should I do with the old guts? Fully functional P55 motherboard, i7 860 and 16gb DDR3. I could donate them, but I don't know who wants that stuff. No real value in selling it. If I were you, I'd use them for something interesting. Like a dedicated Windows XP machine for older games and other software, but you only need 4GB of RAM for the 32-bit XP. Not a terrible idea, but I have a better machine for that. This is my oldest PC, and the guts are no longer worth repurposing for me. I have a couple other Windows machines, as well as a RPi and the ShieldATV. This is a case where I would do better giving the stuff to someone who actually needs it. Maybe I should buy a cheap case and PSU and donate it to a charity as a built linux box. I'll do some research. It would still be a powerful computer in some use cases, and toss a good GPU in there and it can handle 1080p gaming decently (860 is a tight bottleneck now)

Cheap case? Any Rosewill case should do. Maybe this: Rosewill CHALLENGER ATX Mid Tower Gaming Computer Case $74.99 www.amazon.com/ROSEWILL-Computer-Desktop-Pre-Installed-CHALLENGER/dp/B003YVJJ5Y/PSU: Seasonic FOCUS Plus 850 Gold SSR-850FX 850W 80+ Gold $159.99 www.amazon.com/Seasonic-SSR-850FX-Modular-Warranty-Compact/dp/B073H3ZZQZ/As to GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600 Gaming Graphics Card with 8GB $309.00 www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Technology-11310-01-20G-Radeon-Graphics/dp/B09JHRQY4Y/OR: If you must have a Nvidia card -the closest card to the RX 6600 would be: PNY GeForce RTX™ 3060 Ti 8GB XLR8 Gaming Revel Epic-X RGB™ $499.99 www.amazon.com/PNY-GeForce-Gaming-Epic-X-Graphics/dp/B0971XRQR4/Either way you come in under $750

Man, those Quadro cards are expensive....I'll bet that P2000 set you back a few G's. Way back....about a decade ago, the computer guy my family dealt with leant my Dad and I a Quadro 2000 to try it out, back when that card was the top shelf and cost about 3,500 CAD. You see, my dad was really into hi-res Photography and using Lightroom and CS6 and he wanted to see the difference between a GTX Card like the GTX 580 (usually designed and used primarily for Gaming) and the Quadro cards (designed for things like CAD etc). So our guy leant us this brand new Quadro 2000 from PNY for a week so we could see the difference. As powerful as the new RTX 30 series and even the 20 series is.....I still think that if you're doing anything like CAD, 4K Photography, Animation etc.... a Quadro card would be the way to go. If I was going to build a PC strictly used for CAD, Animation etc.... I would buy a Quadro GPU. I"ve tried the AMD/ATI FirePro cards.....and I don't like them. Even back as far as the mid 1990s when ATI was truly ATI..... the issue was never the build quality nor even the performance of their cards. What held them back (and in my experience as far as the 1950 PRO XT which was the last true ATI card I owned......then in 2006 I had several cards from Diamond, Sapphire, XTX, ASUS and they were all garbage. None lasted more than four months. They all crapped out....But what made them even worse was the Drivers and the Catalyst Control Centre.

I bought it mainly to run 4K transcodes. It was a small card that didn't require any external power connection, so you could use it for any small form factor Plex server/home theater PC. Its gaming performance was decent as well. I believe it's about as fast as a 1050 Ti. I still use it to play Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
