The cable is supposed to be able to handle 600 watts/55 amps of sustained load. In the picture, there's that one thicker cable, probably the one that's melting. the melting cables is still a very serious finding. Well this. rant Is this what's trying to pass as a standard these days? That's not a prototype, that's a proof of concept. Any rookie could tell you that's not going to work, which is why I suspect it was desinged by a student. And by a student who has never set foot in a lab, and tested stuff in real life. That connector is a joke! I did the math, and for 12V/60A you are going to need to use copper cable that is 10mm/400thou in diameter. Any connector has to be at least that strong, stronger, if you are using aluminium. WTAF! /rant I'm not just little concerned. Can you tell? Yep. Jay and Steve agree... Linus is oddly silent on it though... Or I just haven't found his video yet.

The 4090s are already at Canada Computers and they're already sold right out! ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte are the only brands now....and Gigabyte is the least expensive coming in at 2150.00 CAD. ASUS is the most outrageous coming in at just below 2800.00 But Nvidia said "high priced GPUs are here to stay". Looks like they were right.
Also....the 1300 series of Intel CPUs are also seen at Canada Computers but not ready for sale for another three weeks. It is also likely that a new Z700 series chipset will be featured on new motherboards to be released in the coming months.
I kinda feel sorry for everyone who just bought a 1200 series compatible system.....when very soon the 1300/Z790 hardware will be out for the same prices! And let's not forget the 40 series of GPUs. Man, the PC Tech market is flooding! If all this NEW-new stuff hits the market when they haven't even sold the 30 series and enough of the 1200 CPUs and Z690s to make back their money and plus a little profit.....soon enough, they will have to drop prices BIG TIME, because they won't be able to sell enough of anything when 1) the prices are so studpidly high....and 2) the prices for the 1200 series and 1300 series are so close. Why buy a 1200 series compatible system that is already approaching 2 years old when the absolute newest 1300 series CPU is the same price?
Somethin's gotta give....

Thanks for the videos, btw. I wouldn't have found this stuff otherwise. No problem. Also now we DO know that AMD pulled an Intel for sure. They made the IHS thicker for one reason: AM4 coolers. Irony is that a quirk of AM5 motherboards takes that compatibility and borks it:

They will give their money to Nvidia if they don't educate themselves first. Jay pretty much sums up Jensens' plan: It sounds like Jensen liked the Pandemic prices among other things. IF no one buys -or not enough do-then they may drop but I doubt so otherwise. I find his statement: "High prices here to stay" not only laughable but down right comical. Jensen is still in Pandemic mode and is to egotistical and arrogant to admit his company's hubris and bring prices down. Linus also sheds light that the whole graphics card should not be that expensive... Unless the PCB is made of gold in my opinion:

Not to mention 3000 series are going back up... I saw a 3070Ti for $630 on Newegg now sits back up over $800 Some further evidence that 4000 series is dangerous for small form builds: Seriously though all Techies should know: YOU DON'T HOLD A MOTHERBOARD LIKE THAT! After this build that will have the 3070TI... I am done with Nvidia.

Does it have a HEMI in it? I am glad that I no longer see PC building as a hobby and only as something I do when I really need to.
I cannot see purchasing a new GPU for at least 5 years, and when I do then I suppose if I have to upgrade my PSU then I will... but realistically, I don't see why I would need to upgrade anytime soon... for anything.
The performance of these new things is incremental. The leaps just aren't there anymore, and haven't been for a long time. People talk about what a leap forward the 10 series was for Nvidia, but to me even that hype was overblown.
I use computers, every day, for like almost 40 years now. I used to be amazed by the improvements, but it was because we could actually see them. Lara Croft's face is a good simple example of that - we aren't going to get a whole lot more verisimilitude than where we are currently, beyond how we capture and animate. The raw fidelity is already photorealistic.
So, when I think about power guzzling GPUs in a never ending arms race to be an uberchad, I immediately think about undervolting and am happy with my 1440p. I am not saying you should be satisfied with your PC, but I am satisfied with mine and don't believe the hype things just aren't improving that much anymore to be worth the e-waste and money pit chasing this dream will cost. This is a seismic shift for me, and I don't expect it to be popular here but it is what I feel.

Aside the fact for some people -its their job with computers... Also Nvidia seems to have a Holodeck bent -ever notice he was standing on a holodeck but green lines instead of yellow... We should know when we get Team "Yellow":

This is a seismic shift for me, and I don't expect it to be popular here but it is what I feel. I went from an i7 4790K and GTX 1080 to a Ryzen 5950X and RTX 3090. Gaming performance wise, it definitely more than doubled for newer titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Flight Sim 2020. I also play games mainly on a 1440p 144hz monitor with the framerate capped at 142 FPS, so most of the older games feel more or less the same. The main difference is that I can pretty much max out all graphics settings (as silly as it is) without experiencing much performance drop. So it all depends on what games you play and what you use your PC for. If you use games that heavily utilize ray-tracing as the performance yardstick, you'll end up spending thousands of dollars on a system with an RTX 4090. If you don't care about ray-tracing or being able to play the latest titles with high graphics settings, you'll be perfectly happy with a much reasonable priced PC or even your current PC. In the end, there are always people like me who are excited for new tech and buying new toys. As powerful as the RTX 3090 is, I still wish for more ray-tracing performance because that's what I built my PC for. My principle is very simple, if it's twice as fast given the same price, I'll buy it. Let's see how the RTX 4090 fares and whether or not it deserves my hard-earned money.

I find his statement: "High prices here to stay" not only laughable but down right comical. Well this. It was ridiculous, and with the current energy crisis in Europe, High End cards are going to be rare over here. DON'T HOLD A MOTHERBOARD LIKE THAT! Indeed, don't.

It's a G-Sync trick to reduce stutter. Ideally with G-Sync, I should set the cap to 140 FPS with my 144hz monitor but I really can't tell the difference between 140 and 142. Generally speaking as long as the FPS is capped by 2-4 FPS lower than your monitor's refresh rate, most games will run a lot smoother with G-Sync. The framerate cap feature is also great for older games like GTA IV where 30 or 60 FPS is ideal. Since those games were designed to run at 30 FPS on consoles.

I was overdue for a new machine. i7 3820/970 was no longer a strong swimmer even on my old 1050p monitor. 5600/3070 is a good balance for me, can be undervolted and not suffer massive performance loss, run cooler etc.
I am still very enthusiastic about new technology. Just haven't seen any in a long time, and the "gains" we are seeing now is more marketing balderdash than it is real. I am waiting for Nvidia to pull a BMW and only sell one GPU, and then you can unlock as much of it as you can afford to pay on subscription.
Heated Seat subscription, this is where they would like to take the gaming industry. That is crazy.
What I am specifically talking about is RAM speed. It isn't faster, having more doesn't matter, unless you are using software tailored to juice it. So much of the computing experience is no longer based solely on what your machine can do, that unless you need a supercomputer because you do supercomputer things.... I just don't feel the improvement in my new PC except that it can play CP2077 decently well at 1440p and the old one could barely chug along at 1050.
My post was in no way trying to piss on this thread or on the hobby, more pissing on the manufacturers and their broken model. We cannot sustain this level of silicon waste, and we haven't got a great replacement for it.

We cannot sustain this level of silicon waste, and we haven't got a great replacement for it. At least now we're actually seeing some major leap in performance and to an extend, power efficiency over the previous generation. Remember when Intel was stuck on quad-core for more than ten years and we only got to see 5-10% performance increase in each generation of desktop CPU? It is great that now Nvidia and Intel have proper competition coming from AMD. However, on both high-end and mainstream, this all seems to come at a cost of an increase in power consumption and heat. I can no longer use my gaming PC during summer relying solely on my house's central AC unit. I need to install an ugly window AC unit in my room to keep the PC cool. Even during winter, I have to turn down the heater and keep my window open just to play games. Ten years ago, I could never imagine that desktop PCs would become bigger, hotter, and even more power hungry. It's a good thing that I use Noctua's 1200 RPM fans on my build. The damn thing draws nearly 700 watts while gaming but at least it's quiet.

Noctua NF-S12B redux as radiator fans or case fans or both? Just case. For radiator, I use the EK-Vardar S 120ER that came with the AIO.

5600/3070 is a good balance Good choice! I'm liking my 5600/3060 quite a lot. And custom loop is the way forward, for me at least. subscription, this is where they would like to take the gaming industry. That is crazy. Subs are a big no-no for me, definitely not buying what they are selling. more pissing on the manufacturers and their broken model We should find a horse or two to do the pissing. Would make me feel better at least.

Ten years ago, I could never imagine that desktop PCs would become bigger, hotter, and even more power hungry. Well, the writing was on the wall: in the past 20 years, coolers have been getting bigger and bigger. And since we are now water cooling, I bet the next step will be adding better and bigger radiators. The power consumption will probably reach 1kW soon. Talk about space heaters.
