Being a big fan of Gigabyte/Aorus for their motherboards, and sadly now that EVGA is out of the GPU business....My next GPU brand of choice would be Gigabyte/Aorus.
This video I found about the 4090 models from Gigabyte/Aorus seem to me as a good argument to make the switch and choose Gigabyte/Aorus over MSI.
I am leery of being loyal to any company now days. I look at the performance, the build quality and the companies history before making such a decision. Usually ASUS ROG seems good but back a year ago I thought they would mop the floor of performance for the 3070 Ti... I was surprised when the YT guy that analyzes the PCB of GPU's said ZOTAC's AMP Extreme Holo was the best 3070 TI. My attention diverted.
I think you misunderstand me I am not laughing at Nvidia I am laughing at the blunders of the Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. With his pandemic ego still in full steam he should have his leather jacket given to a more competent individual say Malcolm Gutenburg. Jensen deserves a broom -Let him sweep up the mess he has made for Nvidia. Though he would be more likely to just sweep it under the rug.
With all that Jensen has done this year -especially his market manipulation I don't care if its ethically right he deserves to be laughed at. His business blunders make him someone who shouldn't be allowed to make business decisions -he needs a demotion. Till he humbles himself and concedes he has been WRONG about ALOT -which I doubt his ego will get out the way for... He deserves no less when it bites him in the butt.
TLDR: Nvidia CEO since 1993 -Jensen Huang. Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Hahah. I think you're very confused. You know the reason why there was a controversy over the 12GB RTX 4080, right? You also know why they're renaming/rebranding it? I mean I hope you actually watched that Gamers Nexus video that you posted, because it explains everything.
If you watch it, you'll know why I'm saying Nvidia is doing the right thing.

In a few days I'll be able to let the thread know if the 4090 is all that it is meant to be.
I am nothing if not a rampant consumerist.

Nice, make sure you post pictures of it.
As far as I'm concerned, the RTX 4090 is the only GPU that can actually handle Cyberpunk's ray-tracing.
Will do.
I am getting it built for me, rather than doing it myself. Too old for this shit etc etc.
They did a very good job with the last one, so happy to let them do so again. For the sake of $100 build fee, I'd rather have other things to do.
I'll have my Spider-Man run to finish, but will be testing it out with that, plus CP2077 and RDR2 (obviously), plus probably AC Valhalla. Anything else that might impress visually/technically on that level? Forspoken has my interest, and looks like it could be a GPU buster, but that is still some months away.

Honestly, I haven't encountered any games that my 3090 can't handle other than CP 2077 and Flight Sim 2020. It runs Control and Metro Exodus perfectly fine with ray-tracing. RDR2 isn't demanding at all.
$100 is awfully cheap for a build fee though. You know which RTX 4090 you'll be getting? Is it a Founders Edition?

RDR2 still makes my 2080Ti stutter from time to time on 4K, high - let alone ultra. But I haven't had a 3xxx card to test with, so I'll take your word on that.
As for the build fee, yeah - but most other places in New Zealand don't actually charge one at all. And you get what you pay for. I learned that the hard way. Never again.
As mentioned, these guys built my current gaming PC late last year and did a fine job. A few too many lights for this old dog, but beyond that - everything is extremely tidy and running well within temp guidelines and performance bands - so, I'm happy.

Yes I watched it though... One correction does not equal the righting of a sinking ship.
I will concede that I did see "RTX 4080 10 GB" in your post but it does now read RTX 3080 10 GB. So whoops on my part there I will grant you.
Whoever came up with that naming scheme initially should be demoted. AND due to Jensen previous statements -in his own words and own voice -I believe its him. I surely don't want to think every one at Nvidia is such a shill.
For your clarification since you ask: 2 4080's -one is clearly a 4070 tier card but named 4080. My issues are many but the remedy methods they are taking: Possible LHR Driver to fix it to be 4070, BIOS flash and stickers. Its just all bad. I know someone who hates messing with the BIOS of ANYTHING so they avoid using things with a tweaked BIOS. If they want to put weight behind it get Jensen to speak up and admit the goof up -I would be content with that.
Also Steve is right this could lead to increased scams. When a product line has a reversal -scams usually are more common. Steve even said it and I will paraphrase: "Consumers may get scammed if not careful." With such a MASSIVE upscale of performance and the launch of such a beefy card line. This is in reality a massive faux pas -especially with another card line already on the market.
A market which according to Jensen Huang he is planning on manipulating:
I laugh at the CEO who wants to be King of the mountain and can't event get to the base camp.

You got a good tag line for signature there.
Yeah, but my signature is already a little wordy. I had to trim it by a couple of lines just a few days ago. And I’m kind of attached to what is left.

It's just a simple name change. That's it. Even if they do it on the VBIOS level, it should not affect how the video card operates. Everything else stays the same. It is still a very time-consuming and expensive process to fix this issue, but it's very necessary.
Also no, Gamers Nexus are not saying that Nvidia will use LHR drivers for those 12GB RTX 4080 cards. They are saying the name can either be corrected through VBIOS or on the driver level like what they did to the LHR cards. All these changes will be done before the launch by the AIB partners like Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, and Zotac.

That is why the rebranding to RTX 4070 or 4070 Ti. They are doing this to avoid confusion, and also prevent scammers taking advantage of such confusing naming scheme.
Nvidia is owning up to their mistake and fixing it. This is a good thing.

It's not about whether or not we should be skeptical about it. Everyone is skeptical about something. I'm just simply acknowledging Nvidia for fixing their mistake and that is always a good thing. Nvidia usually have too much pride to do a 180 like this. This time it is different because EVERYONE called them out on it.
All corporations exist to make a profit. Nvidia decided to name it the "RTX 4080 12GB" because they didn't want to show the dramatic price increase from the original RTX 3080 to the RTX 4080. They thought they could simply compare the $899 RTX 4080 12GB to the $799 RTX 3080 and convince everyone that the price hike was minimal. (That's why I brought up the 10GB RTX 3080 in my previous post.)
It was all a marketing poly trying to validate a higher price and it failed spectacularly. We shouldn't praise Nvidia for fixing it but we shouldn't give them shit for it either.

Why not the upper left above or below the dragon?
Oh, you mean where Dragonracer has ‘Drunk Turian Sentinel’ and regack has ‘Casual Veteran’?
I used to have something there, but I think my username is too long and everything looked a bit screwy.

I'm currently trying out the new Nvidia driver (522.25) and it seems like certain games actually run a bit smoother. I also see a small jump in performance in CP2077. Maybe I can hold on to my 3090 for a bit longer after all.
Before:
After:
Just keep in mind the new driver breaks CP2077's in-game map and you get some weird bright artifacts.

Nothing new. Older card + newer card driver -not designed for older card = Always get better performance.. It worked all the way back when using a driver designed for the GTX 1050Ti on the GTX 970. As far as I know its been this way for a long time.
HOWEVER be careful... Since this method is a dime a dozen. Not all drivers are created equal. This method has been known to bork older titles or extremely new ones.
Not breaking them and or not running them but causing Graphic glitching, artifacts, weird card performance and lock up if too much overclock applied. If you get the diamond in the ruff and it works beautifully on all games you run -good going.

media.tenor.com/aeDTWUuNZhsAAAAM/kevinmcgarry-mcgarries.gif My bad missed it in the last post. That said since its a 3000 series and a new driver this makes sense. Probably wouldn't have those issues with a 4000 series. On the bright side you don't need to update your driver if you do get a 4000 series.

Still good you finally found out.
Nvidia has done some optimization to improve DirectX 12 performance. 522.25 is actually the first driver to have support for the RTX 4090 and the optimization seems to work for all RTX GPUs, especially the more powerful ones. Unfortunately, Nvidia didn't mention GTX.
I've been testing it out on various games like Control, Far Cry 6, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Red Dead Redemption 2. So far it has been working pretty well. I'm seeing about a 5% performance uplift on average. The in-game map glitches in Cyberpunk 2077 was the first obvious bug, but so far I haven't noticed others in other games.

RTX 4090 owners are reporting the same issue. They have to use the 522.25 Game Ready Driver because it is the only driver available for the RTX 4090.
