I think you're the one who's got issues with masculinity not me, I've seen more films with Cavil than I like and IMHO he sucks as an actor. He can be a nice guy off camera like Joss Whedon was an abusive asshole off camera, but at the end of the day I don't care about Cavil's (or any celebrates) personal life. He is not tough guy like John Wayne or James Stewart. The only reason the movies he's been in made any money is because they were based off comics, TV shows, video games, novels, or historical fiction. I can't think of anything he's made where it would be his name to sell it because nobody would watch it.
Sure. Just noticing your general trend towards hating most modern masculine roles Henry Cavill fills while also hating maleShepard despite these characters being loved by many many others. Oh yeah, those same comics, novels and video games with those same masculine and popular roles that Cavill fills? Again, Cavill fills those roles people already love for a reason. Whether Cavill was around or not to fill them, they would still exist and be popular. In many ways I don't see much difference between John Wayne/James Stewart and modern masculine roles other than Wayne/Stewart are vintage and reek of the type of masculinity that is nothing more than sitting on the couch and reading the newspaper while the wife cooks in the kitchen. So tough. Yet I'm the one with masculinity issues? MhmmyeahOK.
Or maybe I like guys like Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Brandon Routh, Micheal Keaton, Tom Cruise, Daniel Craig, Kenau Reaves, and others more. I've seen Henry Cavil in The Count of Monte Cristo, The Tudors, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Man of Steel, Mission: Impossible-Fallout and Elona Holmes and IMHO as an actor he sucks, just like Chris Pine (who is only good in support roles and essemble movies), he is not my cup of tea. He's not charming, tough, or good to be in any those movies and with the exception of latter two where he plays a villain and is a support character that is suits his cold and emotional distance talents well enough (I wouldn't want to watch him as Sherlock Holems because I would like to live).
He lacks any the it factor to make me care about him which is great for playing villains and secondary characters but he is not a leading man.
Why don't you go watch some Jimmy Stewart movies like The Far Country, Bend of the River, The Naked Spur, Vertigo, Rear Window, or The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance because guys like him and Wayne and Henry Fonda would eat guys like Henry Cavil for lunch.

Personally, I think it's a smart choice getting Henry attached to this, esp. with the success of the Witcher. They just need to make sure they have the right actors in the supporting roles around him.
(Assuming this all pans out ofc)

I got to be honest getting some of the well known celebs who were in the games already would be ideal of course.

I think a Mass Effect series would be fantastic. Have been waiting for one since ME1. However, I wouldn't want them to just adapt the Shepard trilogy. I'd want them to tell new stories in the ME Universe. And while I never was a big fan of a prequel game, I think the ideal setting for a series would be the first contact war and the time shortly after. Make a pilot that starts with finding the ruins on Mars and the charon relay (maybe as a teaser/prologue, like the beginning of the first Lord of the Rings movie and then make the first season (or maybe the first half-season) about the first contact war, introduce the main characters, etc. Then, you can move on to humans starting to integrate into galactic society and a group of characters centred around the protagonist hero from the first contact war going out and having adventures. You could show awesome moments like the first time humans visit the Citadel, etc. You could easily introduce new people who are not familiar with the games to the ME universe since the starting point would be fairly grounded scifi and the audience would discover all the ME specific stuff, like prothean tech, the alien races, galactic politics, etc. with the characters of the show. This way, exposition would come naturally and gradually, you wouldn't have to dump it just to get started. Meanwhile, the First Contact War would be an exciting conflict to get the show started on a bang. And in this case, Mass Effect's ridiculously fast timeline actually works in your favor since you can move the plot at a quick pace and keep things interesting. For fans of the games, you could have cool cameo moments of Saren, TIM, young Lt. David Anderson, Alex Ryder, Aria, etc. Most importantly, you could tell lot's of varied stories this way and wouldn't bind youself to the Shepard plot arc and invite constant comparisons to the game. I really would absolutely love to see something like that. Fingers crossed.

For example the human lady is raised by the Covenant, despite the Covenant exterminating all of humanity because of their religious beliefs (the Prophet’s lying to save face).

Huh. Where you see "dull" others see immaculate confidence, charisma, masculinity, and yes, humor. He nailed Geralt's "Hmm" and "Fuck" moments. Honestly, I think your distaste for him in especially masculine roles says more about your own personal issues surrounding masculinity than anything else related to Cavill. He's a very charming and witty guy off camera. However, he's brought on to play the tough, robust roles he does for a reason. And people like him for it. Not everyone has to be far out wild and flashy in order to be a character on screen.
I think you're the one who's got issues with masculinity not me, I've seen more films with Cavil than I like and IMHO he sucks as an actor. You don't have to like him as an actor or anything but you are going so over the top its to the he stole your girlfriend level of hate.

This from the reddit gave me a good chuckle. Wanted to share for anyone who doesn't snoop around there: "Henry Cavill when the interviewers start asking him questions about Mass Effect on his next press tour"If he were to actually answer "I should go" it would seriously be the best confirmation in existence and immediately set him off on good footing with fans.

Ouff. No denying Henry Cavill is going to be an amazing Shepard. Poise, looks to boot. Not concerned about him. But, a movie was the worst possible outcome from all this. Mass Effect has too rich a setting and story for just a movie. With all those characters and scenes it's gonna be so rushed- how're they gonna fit everything in?? Witcher got a series and even then they had to leave a lot of things out.
Who is this movie for anyway? Obviously not the fans because it's going to be completely lackluster in our eyes regardless from all the cut content.
Series or bust.

Given the choice of movie/series a series would be better given the depth of content in these stories. But, shit I don't want either, voice work in a game I'd support 100%, map him for people who want to look at him. But a series or movie it just feels like they'd be canonizing things a bit too much, the only reason I'd kind of support it as it would likely make him more renegade because being edgy sells, they nix the racist stuff I'm sure but the baller shove a merc through a window stuff they'd want to roll with. And that would be kind of fucking hilarious, still crap but funny crap. One of those shit movies you love to watch due to how funny it is.
