Ahh yes, sorry forgot about that I am starting to wonder if it's also possibly our graphics cards not behaving accordingly. I noticed that Nvidia has not provided optimum settings for MELE yet as they have for ME3 OT and DAI. I hadn't even thought about that I wonder if that has something to do with it. The gamersettings.ini file has these lines: [AppCompat] CompatLevelComposite=6 CompatLevelCPU=6 CompatLevelGPU=6 I don't know what the highest possible value is for those settings. However, I remember having to change something that looked similar to that to get Sims 3 to recognize a modern GPU. Maybe there is a compatibility issue? What values do you have? What is colfoley playing on, since he isn't having those problems? PS4

I don't think I did either on PS4, and I've not noticed it on PS5. That being said, I haven't been smashing photo mode as much recently as I've just finished a 3rd PT of ME. About to start on ME2 again, so I'll be letting loose again soon™

I have a Nvidia 1650 GTX it also has its own settings, which you can customise for a specific programs. I hope they release a special profile for MELE as they have for some other games to take the guess work out of how to optimise our graphics.
In the meantime, I took combat pictures of my Shep during the Mars section. I found two things help to take a slightly less cartoony image:
* maneuver the camera mode in orbit/free mode to until you are happy with the look of your Shep - believe it or not, if you get it right, the maniacal look disappears and you can take a somewhat decent screenshot
* make sure your Shep is facing some source of light within the game - like a window or a bright light - that really helps bring a bit of realism to the textures - zoom in and out until you are happy with the results.
This is what I got when I fooled around with photo mode today, she still doesn't look my original Shepard but she's a little less cartoony:
Notice that in all shots she is sort of getting light from some source, which means that the darker locations in ME3 are going to be tricky but I think experimentation is about all we can do for now.

After Mars, straight to the Citadel to visit Kaidan and the Council. Practicing light screenshots as well
Kaidan's eyes were open for the doctors but not for me!
I found Shepard a little too demanding of Liara, straight after Mars, expecting her to prepare a presentation to the council. But she did a good job!

Finally made Julia Shepard ready for LE3. Yeah she kind of looks maniacal there, not just "angry" but it's just who she is

Finally made Julia Shepard ready for LE3. Yeah she kind of looks maniacal there, not just "angry" but it's just who she is It's mainly the eyebrows that are problematic - they are not the shaped eyebrows we select in the CC screen. They arch in combat mode and this is what really creates the maniacal, angry look to our Shepards.

Maybe it's too sophisticated for this game.
I found this guide to help optimize settings for MELE for Nvidia:
To change your NVIDIA graphic settings, you need to first open up the NVIDIA Control Panel. From there, go to the ‘Manage 3D settings’ tab on the left.
If you only want these settings to apply to Mass Effect Legendary Edition, scroll through the program list and select Mass Effect Legendary Edition specifically.
Now, change the following settings:
Disable Image Sharpening. Disable Low-Latency Mode. Change the Power Management Mode to ‘Performance Mode’. Set the value of Max Pre-Rendered Frames to 1. Set the Texture Filtering Quality to ‘Performance Mode’. Enable Threaded Optimization. If your monitor supports it, enable G-Sync. Set the Display Mode to ‘Single Display Performance Mode’.
Anyway I hope you can find a solution to the problem, it sounds completely solvable.

sugarless thanks for that guide, I was going to change the settings it has for my Nvidia GPU (1070 Ti) but specifically for ME1/MELE but it doesn't come up on my GPU in the drop down list of applications. Any idea why that would be as MELE doesn't show up when I scan for it either with GeForce Experience. MEA shows up.

Could it be hidden, can't remember how to "show hidden files" EDIT: Got it to show up in Nvidea Control Panel but GeForce Experience just cannot find it even though doing a repair of the game made the .exe visible in File Explorer.

Ya, unfortunately GeForce Experience does not have an official profile for it yet. Lame.
But it's good you got it to show up in Nvidia Control Panel. I made a screenshot in case anyone else needs to see how it looks - you need to select the box show only programs found on this computer for the list of games/apps to show up.
This is the path for finding your MELE folder:
(this is from my newer pc, I haven't installed ME1 or DAI on it yet lol)

2070 Super sounds very fancy! Maybe it's too sophisticated for this game. It's a little overkill for MELE, yeah I may try to mess with GeForce's in-game overlays to see if I can get better lighting on Shepard, at least. I've never really used them before. I found this guide to help optimize settings for MELE for Nvidia: Thanks I may be mistaken, but I think this is a guide for getting higher FPS, though.

You're correct about that guide - yikes - better stick to taking pictures and kicking husk ass instead of dishing out the wrong info LOL sorry about that
This is an older guide from 2018 but it definitely explains what alot of those Nvidia settngs do for us laymen
I am playing on Palaven moon atm and I noticed that facing a light source doesn't always help with photo mode and Shepard. Hoping that EA and or Nvidia can help with the inconsistency.

Overlays sound interesting. Give it a try and show us your results. Well, I fiddled with some overlay settings and got one that I like outside of combat, started Citadel DLC so I could try it in combat, and...tab no longer hides the UI in photo mode. Instead, it brings up something that looks like the chat box for Nvidia Geforce Experience, except I checked all of Geforce's keyboard shortcuts, and tab isn't listed at all So now I can't use photo mode because I can't hide the UI. If I can't figure out why that's happening, I'm going to uninstall and reinstall Geforce Experience, then try the overlay again. This is an older guide from 2018 but it definitely explains what alot of those Nvidia settngs do for us laymen Yay! I'll check out that link.

I only have filters but I hardly use them.
Not sure if this is any help but I first get rid of the in-game photo mode ui by pressing tab, then I press Alt Z, to get to a GeForce menu, then go to photo mode (Alt F2) on that - when you use that to take your picture, the Nvidia UI disappears for the actual screenshot. You can also apply filters (probably overlays) as well.

Well, it wasn't the fault of Geforce Experience at all. After wasting over an hour googling, uninstalling, reinstalling, playing with settings, searching for more keybindings, etc., I finally tried photo mode with GFE completely uninstalled, and...the weird green textbox STILL pops up when I press tab. I'm baffled. It looks exactly like the chatbox for GFE (I guess for use with streaming or broadcasting, I dunno), but on the bottom of the screen. I uninstalled the only MELE mod that I installed today, and that didn't change anything either. It was a DLC mod, so I didn't think it would. The only other thing I did today was update my graphics drivers. I wonder if some of the other crap that usually installs with it could be to blame? Luckily, I just found out that left shift will hide the photo mode UI just like tab is supposed to, so I'm going to reinstall GFE because I do want to keep playing with those filters. Tomorrow I'll continue trying to solve this green text box mystery. You posted while I was typing Not sure if this is any help but I first get rid of the in-game photo mode ui by pressing tab, then I press Alt Z, to get to a GeForce menu, then go to photo mode (Alt F2) on that - when you use that to take your picture, the Nvidia UI disappears for the actual screenshot. You can also apply filters (probably overlays) as well. It's the in-game photo UI that wouldn't go away, because tab just brings up that text box instead. But as said above, left shift works too Glad you solved that. Sorry, I have been a bit daft headed today - neither here nor there mentally LOL I think my first Pfizer shot has gone to my brain
Not sure about what other crap installs with Nvidia driver updates tbh. However, those filters will be fun! I am going to try a few too, shame they can't get rid of the maniacal eyebrows

A few shots from Menae.
This is a ME3 SMG in action, looks like it's imploding Nine eyes - why not ten?
The best thing about Menae is reuniting with Garrus ofc

sugarless I ended up enabling anisotropy at 16x in Nvidia Control Panel, as well as DSR, then setting my in-game resolution to 4K (which then scales down to 1440p for my monitor). I think that might have helped a little bit, but it's difficult to tell. What does make a difference at least outside of combat are the Nvidia filters I applied for exposure/contrast and detail. In-combat, well, I'm still getting angry sim face. Maybe it's a teensy bit better since at least the lighting is improved. If you apply filters, you do have to save your photo mode images with your normal screenshot key, NOT with the spacebar. In-game photo mode does not save Nvidia's filter effects. Here are some before (no Nvidia filters) and after (with Nvidia filters) examples. Combat photos from the arena: Photo mode: Cutscenes: I don't know why the option is gone to click the images to view them full size. Maybe because of the spoiler tags? Some of the differences are easier to see at full resolution, but ah well. Right-clicking to open the image in a new tab does open the full size version. Good job Flickr for behaving.
