Outside of Human, What Alien Species do you want to see for Player Character

Okay, I guess I'll be the first to suggest Volus. 

It would bring a unique experience especially the intense breathing between sentences. Any well known catchphrase could sound more dramatic through Volus speech (e.g. Dirty Harry, "well do you feel lucky earth-clan *deep breath*, well do you punk"), so going through a story with a Volus protagonist would be a goldmine of memorable quotes.

In single player campaign? Human only. Unless, of course, BioWare goes with a silent protagonist which is the only way to free up enough of the word budget enough to allow for reactivity based on the players' species choice. Anything else and you are going to get a human cosplaying as an alien. And, considering how forgettable the rubber-foreheaded human-aliens are (looking at you Angara) I would much prefer that the writers avoid that amount of cringe and stick with humans.



Now for multiplayer? The sky's the limit I say. Branch out and let players run around as the non-humanoid aliens. Elcor, Hanar, Rachni; even Geth Armatures if they want to include open-world MP maps with vehicles etc. There is no reason to not have as diverse of a playable roster as possible in the multiplayer mode. And please, for the love of God, don't have the playable choices in the online mode be bloated with human kits. ME:A was atrocious in how it inflated the unlock pool with male/female human kits that had the exact same power sets.

Or, better yet, players create their own characters for the multiplayer (i.e. species, gender, class, powers, etc.) That way we could make each multiplayer avatar our own.

Volus would work. One of the talents is the bowling ball. Hit the button, the Volus rolls into the enemies knocking them over, then gets upright to shoot them. excellent. But the best talent a Volus has is delivering pizza. Double pepperoni

You don't have to worry. The next ME game will be a ME1 remake with the Volus, Hanar, Elcor and Vorcha being the council.
