Did you find the Blacksmith and the book shop in Flotsam? Yes, I found the blacksmith and had him craft the Superb Witcher Sword. As for the bookseller I found him the same day I first got to Flotsam, but now I can't find him. I did buy three books from him the first time. One book was on Nekkers, the other was on Endregas, and the other on Rotfiends.
You actually don't need to buy books in 2 to learn about beasties. Killing them enough times will grant you the same info.

I just used a great MOD for TW1: Book of All Knowledge (it's actually 3 books) it gives you every potion recipe, every beast entry and every plant entry.

So reinstalled the game with the Genie MOD installed and made lots of wishes and got me some armour, some swords, some potions, some talent points and 10,000 Orrens. Then saved the game closed it and deleted The Genie Mod. Have now just been installing other MODS including one that gives you three books to get all the Monster, plant and potion recipes. Probably another half hour of installing MODS then can progress doing the Outskirts of Vizima.

So got all the way to having met Odo, Mikul and whatever the other guys name is that sells to the Scoiatel and did all there quests. Waiting for Abigail to perform her magic on Alvin then I can head to the Reverend again.
Also gave Kalkstein his Ghoul Blood visited the Mill with Vesna and shared some wine, killed Nadir the Lake Monster for the Royal Hunstman and killed lots of Drowners for The Reverend and Barghests for Abigail.
Harvested hundreds of plants as well.
Probably other stuff but it's all a bit of a blur.
Who gives you the quest to go to the cave under the wall with The Echinops in them, I went there and killed them and picked up a skull.

Today I killed the Kayran. Wasn't that difficult, took the mongoose potion and used the Rook oil before the fight, and used AXII went it raised up on of it's tentacles, used the sign and dodge before it slammed it trapping the tentacle, then proceeded to cut it off. Did this four times until the nearby structure collapsed unto the beast. Took me awhile to figure this part out, I ran up a ramp and Geralt tossed a bomb into the creatures mount blowing it up. The sorceress Sile thanked Geralt and told him to go collect his money.

So found out some things last night. I don't remember much but I do remember the following: Geralt recovered more of his memories last night. He remembered being on an island with the mysterious sorceress named Yennefer, apparently they were teleported there by someone called Ciri. Spoke to Iorveth. Iorveth led me to the Kingslayer known as Letho. Roche and Iorveth got into a duel, while Geralt and Letho dueled at the bottom of the elven ruins, where earlier Geralt and Triss had some sexy time. Cedric died. Triss is gone, taken by Letho. Geralt sided with the Scoia'tael again. OH!!! Killed Loredo then set sail with the Scoia'tael.

Do you know what save you have before you made the decision to go with the Scoiatel rather than Roche? Make a note somewhere of it in case you want to do Roche's TW2 story after you finish this PT, I recommend it. Then you don't have to go to through whole start of TW2 again to experience it.

Started Chapter II I think it did not say anything. Met some new characters like Prince Stennis, Saskia the Dragonslayer, and King Henselt. A fight started between Prince Stennis and King Henselt. King Henselt killed a priest who's blood caused the battlefield to be overtaken by wraiths. King Henselt fled leaving Prince Stennis and Saskia behind. Geralt and Iorveth arrived in time. Another new character showed up a sorceress called Phillipa Einhart in the form of a white owl. She led the survivors to Vergen a mainly Dwarven town. Saskia said for everyone to meet up at the War Council room at the Palace. After Geralt was shown to his room at the tavern. Geralt went to the meeting, everyone spoke and did not like when Iorveth showed up at the meeting. Saskia defended him and gave a speech. A moment later Saskia collapsed after drinking some poison which she was not aware of. Phillipa said to save her Geralt needed to find some items. One of them was the Flower of Remembrance which Triss was going to use to help Geralt recover his memories. So much for that. After that spent the rest of the time exploring Vergen, getting used to the layout.
Edit: What happened to Alvin? He has not been mentioned in the Witcher 2 at all. Was I right before was the Grand Master of the Flaming Order Alvin from the future?

Read about that here.

AngryFrozenWater That's okay, I won't click on the link in the spoiler to avoid spoilers. I was just curious that both Geralt and Triss don't mention Alvin.

Just finished playing here are the highlights. Spent some more time getting to know the layout of Vergen. Completed the Succubus quest. I did not know who to believe, the elf sounded too convincing so I killed the Succubus. In the Journal when we read Dandelions summary I think I made the wrong choice. Also what was the point of the metal fragment in the victims arm? I thought for sure Geralt was going to talk about it, but no there was no option to bring it up. Tried doing the quest for Triss. I found the Troll and was astounded at his mastery of the english language. Apparently troll wives are just like human wives. His wife got jealous of Triss and left with her scarf. Triss also escaped when she got better. I tried getting to the troll wife, but I couldn't find a path. I found three doors that were locked. Went into the mines with Zoltan and his crew. It was nice having backup. The mines were infected with Rotfiends. Eventually made it to were the flowers were. Had to fight some new creature and killed it and it's allies. Collected the flowers and made myself back to the surface. That's were I stopped for the night.

Aaargh the memory of the twisted paths through the hills to find the Troll wife and those mines is enough to make me give up before even playing. I hate Vergen worst map in the whole of my gaming experience. Except maybe for the mines in BG1 I think it was.

Because they all look the same, with here and there an entrance blocked, it felt like a déjà vu, each time I entered one. Why am I here again?

In the Journal when we read Dandelions summary I think I made the wrong choice.
Speaking of journal entries, I learned the hard way in 3 to NOT read the journal after completing a quest because it often contained spoilers for things I hadn't done yet. Very poor design, imo.
