I'm assuming DAD is currently at the point that DAI was when the Crestwood demos were released?
They could release some stuff but they probably learned that there were downsides to going too early.

A place to talk about DAD, no not those kind of dads, neither those and not these either. I mean Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Sorry, it will take a while before I accept the acronym and I'll probably be making jokes for a long time about it.
That new "image" is very purple and I agree with others, it's the color of Pride.
The stony logo is very interesting and I feel like I've seen it before? Although, maybe it wasn't Dragon Age that was spelled with similar "fonts".
I get a dwarven thaig vibes form the rest of the background, which is also interesting, because you think the Deadwolf would focus on elven stuff considering who he is.

I think the purple will have meaning in-game (Pride/Spirit/etc.) as well as just a punchy colour choice to stand out. It also has some Minrathous vibes (esp. the neon-esque "Dreadwolf"). That said, I did quite like the logo in gold. Hopefully, they can work that back into their marketing as well. Looks like Solas has access to a stargate.

Fandom. Fandom never changes. I know the collected fandom is starved for information and this really doesn't fill it, but the level of misguided divination over a single, marketing board is truly something staggering to behold. I'd like some of you prognosticators to shoot me your surefire new company stock picks based on company name and one slide. I have kids going to college so surely you can pick the winners only from that. Sometimes, the color purple is just a set of wavelengths, or what the CEO liked, or a Whoopi Goldberg movie. As the Bard said, "A rose by any name would smell as sweet." A good game with an underwhelming title is still going to be a good game. If the game were named Dragon Age: Asshole (which for some, it already is) and was a very good game, I would still play it and I get the feeling you would to. Why don't we give them a chance to actually show us a game before we start with the pitchforks, torches, and Star wars memes? Just some thoughts from behind the plate. As always, thanks for your time.

I like how we are all in consensus about how bad this 'reveal' is, but I think the point (by I think Hanako) that they literally got 'Dread Wolf' wrong in the title by making it one word is the most telling one.
What are they thinking, with all this?

What are they thinking, with all this? They wanted DAD as acronym and not DADW. The game title reveal is quite similar to DAI's title reveal too. The only difference is that there was no leak that prompted the blog post this time.

As always, thanks for your time. Agreed. Sometimes the discussions here seems like parodies. But I can at least understand the impulse, given how long its been since DAI, how few details we've been given, and the whole fiasco with Morrison or whatever the previous scrapped iteration of DA4 was called. If you're a big DA fan and are starved for information, its hard not to read too much into what little information we do have. But we should probably try to resist that impulse, since its unlikely to lead us to any reliable conclusions about the game itself. It sucks, but all we can really do is wait and see.

As long as more of this music is somewhere in the game, I don't care what they call it. Right there with ya mate! This little snippet of music completely sums up everything I’m hoping DAD(lol!) will be - mysterious and grand. With a slight hint of ancient sins creeping in to shake everything we know to its core... ...Obviously I’m colouring this epic tune with my own bias’. But man am I hoping that the whole soundtrack is like this. We’ve just had two games worth of southern politics and mage/Templar conflict. It’s time for the REAL meat (ie. the blight and ancient “god” spats) to take the stage!

As an aside. The shade of purple on the middle top right, is absolutely my favourite colour and I one hundred percent support the pallet change. In fact, I believe that everybody should be wearing that shade in some form or another In game - I’ll die alone on this hill if I have to! Name wise however. Yeah... Dreadwolf is a bit sucky. Based on what we know from inquisition and bearing in mind the need to not give the story away, whilst naming the game however. I’m not sure what else it could be called? Maybe DA: Restitution based on Solas’ goal in bring Thedas back to its former glory??! Really tricksy this one!

Remember the name Dragon Age literally came out of a name generator then they had to put dragons in the game later bc they realized ummm our game is called Dragon Age and thats why Archdemons are dragons; Thedas was an acronym for The Dragon Age Setting that stuck. Dragon Age II is the only one randomly with a number in the whole series. DAD and Dreadwolf seems onpoint 😄

Well I'm happy we've got a title. Dreadwolf sounds more like a name for a DLC than a full game but nonetheless I'm happy we finally have it. Now it actually feels like a game is coming and we've not just been talking about some collective figment of our imaginations all these years.

Dragon Age II is the only one randomly with a number in the whole series And only because an EA exec insisted. My understanding is that 'Exodus' was the preferred title in-house.

Maybe DA: Restitution based on Solas’ goal in bring Thedas back to its former glory??! Really tricksy this one! The DA games titles have always been related to the player character in some ways. The exceptions are some of the DLCs. Origins: the player's origin II was originally planned to be called Exodus: Hawke's exodus to Kirkwall Inquisition: the player is part and later leader of the Inquisition Dreadwolf would follow Jaws of Hakkon as being named after the main enemies of the game. But I theorized a long time ago that the 4th game would have the player character be hired by Solas (under a covert identity) as a mercenary/thief/treasure hunter at the start of the game. That was back when it was said the game was a heist simulator. In that case, Dreadwolf isn't exactly the bad guy, he's your boss...at least until you find out what he is up to.

Some thoughts after letting the title sit for a couple days.
1. I hope there is some significance to Dreadwolf being one word and not just that they wanted the DAD acronym. The blog posts asks us what Dreadwolf could mean so maybe it isn't as straightforward as it appears.
2. I love how the blog post is like we did hint at his return in 2018. I mean they hinted in 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2020 before now. Not so much a hint as beating us over the heads with his return.
3. I'm glad they didn't go with DA4 or just Dragon Age.
4. When I told my husband the name, he thought it sounded cool. He doesn't play the games but maybe this name will appeal to new fans.
5. However my husband did say the purple background and neon logo seemed out of place. I'm thinking the neon may be for magic with how we've seen Minrathous represented in the 2020 trailer but still unsure how I feel about it. It kind of gives off cheap mobile game vibes to me.
6. The DA website hasn't been updated at all that I can tell. Wondered if they might update the blurb or header.
7. They said they will talk more about the game this year. Will it be at a big event or another random drop? DA Day we will probably get something and I think The Game Awards has a strong chance. Otherwise highly doubt Summer Game Fest next week since they could've dropped the title there. Gamescom maybe?

Whilst both the epilogue to DAI and Trespasser seemed to suggest we were going to see him at some point in the future, it wasn't necessarily guaranteed to be in the next game, whereas the 2018 trailer did seem to confirm that would be the focus of the next game. What I keep saying is that whilst they wouldn't necessarily mention the earlier game references when there was a more recent trailer, it does seem strange they didn't use the 2020 trailer as their point of reference but instead referred back to 2018. I've been asking over on the Schmooples thread: Can anyone remember if the 2020 trailer used to be on the official Bioware site and where it was located because I can't seem to find it anywhere. If I am right about this, then it would seem they don't want us referencing the 2020 trailer because the majority of its content is no longer relevant. Mind you I can't find the 2018 trailer anywhere on the site either.

See my comments further up the thread. Purple has been strongly associated with spirit magic from the first game. The Arch-demon's breath attack was purple flames that do spirit damage (which is also the case in Last Flight only far more deadly). Purple is associated with the Necromancer class in DAI, which also involves spirits and death magic, so that would seem fitting with the Dreadwolf persona which seems lethal to anyone who encounters it in the Fade. I think this could be an aspect that features more strongly in Dreadwolf.

Thought they would feature the new name/logo and maybe update the text. I have also wondered if some of that may be outdated.

Nope, don't like DAD. Since I'm a dad, I prefer the meaning stays the same.
DA:W or DA4 or DA:Dred for me.

Fan excitement aside, Bio writers may have Baldy as a side dish. Sure he can try to destroy the Veil but main events can be the Qunary Tevinter war and more Blight in the Deep Roads. Why else are the Wardens back?
Who is the "unexpected hero"? It can't be any of the suspected powerful mages or is it that dwarf mage? Nah... we will get a gender choice in the CC. I suspect some form of Origin story perhaps for this hero?
Could out Warden be back?
Now anyone imagine what DA4 would be like if it was a MP Live Service game? Crappy for sure, imo.
