and Jubilost is an alchemist, which is a weird sort of not-quite caster who deals in magical potions and grenades. From the gameplay footage it looks something vaguely like the Artificier class from DA:I, basically shooting and throwing the occasional exploding bottle. [/p] Edit: Also, I know how PoE2 is going to handle multi-classing, do we know how this will be handled here?
[/quote]Looking at the PnP rules for them, that's a pretty good approximation. Fewer backflips though Correct. But like I said, there appears to be one or two more companions to be revealed as well. They mentioned the possibility of additional classes via stretch goals. The magus was one. I doubt we'll see more though. But archetypes made it in, so we will likely see several variations for the classes we do have. In addition, there will almost certainly be prestige classes, which are like specializations you can take starting in the mid-level range if you qualify for them. The Arcane Trickster I mentioned Octavia possibly being is one such. Re: multiclassing. They have not mentioned anything. But based on my experiences with Pathfinder and 3E/3.5E gaming, you can make incredibly weak or incredibly strong combos via multiclassing. And some prestige classes actually require multiclassing to qualify for them

Unlike D&D 3.5, prestige classes in Pathfinder are not mandatory (thankfully).
Also, Octavia is going to be a bard unless they really want to gimp her with the Rogue/Wizard levels to qualify for Arcane Trickster. I'll be a like on it.

I'd honestly rather they focus on specializations more. That's something Deadfire is more or less doing to ado build variety, and while dual class in pathfinder is much less of a pain compared to 3.5 and AD&D, it is still a bit irksome because of the progression system being what it is. I wouldn't mind seeing more dual classed companions though, but specializing them might be better suited for gameplay reasons.

At nine companions, they will probably better stop adding, or they will run a risk of the barely there on some of them. The class-race distribution looks nice. Don't see "my" romance there, but was not really hoping for much.

Do you talk "in general" as if "do not see NPC my protagonist would like to romance" or is there a list of known romances that I missed?

If there is one setting where more can work it's this one because of the use oof alignment as a necessary mechanic.

Options are good so long they have personalities and not caricatures like in Baldurs Gate. With limited budgets, they will not be able to give you much with a lot of characters, and it might end up like Jaheira vs Cernd, one has a wagon-load, and another - barely anything. So, if you like someone who has zip, it will be really irritating.

BG2 was not fully voiced with the first line mostly being voiced by the companion and a soundest, sometimes banter lines. Tyranny was barely voiced. With too many joinable NPCs, BG2 had very uneven distribution of content between the companions, and with only 6 companions *and* barely voiced, Tyranny still had uneven content distribution between the companions and did not approach the level of dialogue saturation of, say, Andromeda, let alone romantic content *and* had to split out companion quests into a DLC. I also understand it that PoE had barely any companion dialogues on most of the companions, but it is a hearsay.

A look at the Alpha:
Looks like Arcane Trickster and Stalwart Defender are definitely prestige classes that are available.
Also, a halfling bard named Linzi as a companion?

Thx for the update, iakus 😊
Getting a lot of nostalgic feels and it looks like Linzi's going to be my next best friend there, when at first I thought it's going to be Valerie (thanks to Cassandra 😛)
.. Anyone knows Amiri's alignment though?
Edit: brackets 😑

Love the UI. Looks a lot like Tyranny and this is a compliment (seriously, normally UI is not the main strength of Obsidian games - to put it very mildly - but in Tyranny they did it just right, and no shame in taking good elements for your game if they fit). Dialogs feel kind of "light" - as if not the main focus of the game, but I am not going to judge by one small encounter. All and all - very exciting!

Im more curious as to the rest of the party. Thus far i'm seeing a lack of "evil" in the roster, or at least confirmed "evil". We got two neutrals and a good, and the Good we know little about.

Sorry for asking newb question. I'm just a new kid on the block in this side of town 😉
Pathfinder is really new to me.
What I meant by nostalgic is that it brings back memories on those BG-Neverwinter games I used to play a loooooong time ago.
Not sure I should stick my head deeper into it's lore/world setting/whatev's yet, prior playing the game. Since I'd like my mind to 'get a little lost' in wonderment on journeying in new lands.

I take it the game will have character creation? being able to customize class, race and appearance and whatnot? Take it the limited selection in the alpha is because it is an alpha and character creation has not been fully implemented?

There are, I believe seven races and over a dozen classes to choose from. I don't know how much range we will have on appearance, but we will be able to select character portraits for ourselves.

I'd say that potentially you might even enjoy such a game more if you get into it without pre-conceived notions on how things "should" work assuming you would be familiar with the tabletop. It would be a poor game if it only catered to people who are deeply familiar with pathfinder.
Yeah when I played Pathfinder, we used custom worlds. So I really know nothing of the setting for this game.

I am sure it will be fine. Most of the time folks use the Pathfinder system like they use the DnD system, the world setting and lore is pretty simple to get into. In all honesty, some aspects of Pathfinders world are pretty familiar. That barbarian character for example if from the Mammoth Lords Realm, think Avvar's from Dragon Age, tribal cultures with their own customs and traditions, no centralized government, far northern expanse, all of that jazz we see in a typical sort of "barbarian tribal setting." Standard stuff, but simple to recognize. I am sure it will fit like a glove like any setting.

Looks pretty by the numbers, but I like what I see here. Gives that Icewind Dale cozy "adventure" feel ( PoE, didn't really fit into it).

Companion update: Linzi, the halfling bard. It's time to meet a very special member of your party: Linzi the halfling bard. Linzi used to be a student at the Pitax Academy of Grand Arts, but was expelled for "impudence towards persons of the highest esteem" — that is, for writing a raunchy limerick about Castruccio Irovetti, ruler of Pitax . Unabashed, she moved on with a bold plan: to find the next great hero in the making, join their party, and document their road to victory in the greatest book Golarion has ever seen. She has chosen you as her main character, and she's not leaving your side before she sees the end of your great adventure! Sure, she never got her degree, so her turn of phrase might be a bit awkward sometimes, and she might use her artistic license to exaggerate things a bit... But only to deliver the best account possible of your noble (or ignoble) deeds! What she lacks in bardic education, she makes up for in devotion to her vocation.
Don’t let Linzi’s cheerful personality fool you – when it matters, she has a fierce spirit, loyal to her friends, and determined to follow them to glory, no matter what stands in their way. There is history to be made, a story to be told, and she is adamant to be there from the prologue to the last page. However, don't expect her to flatter you: Linzi is a free spirit who holds little reverence towards the noble titles. She truthfully records your deeds, good or evil, and leaves it to the future generations to judge what kind of person you were.
Like all bards, Linzi can handle regular blades and bows, and protect herself with light armor and a shield. She is also quite competent with magic, but her true power lies in her music — she can compose enchanting songs that inspire heroism in her allies, and makes her enemies tremble.
Linzi is also eager to help you rule your realm. Charismatic and well-meaning, she makes for a great diplomat who always tries to find a mutually-beneficial solution for all parties. She is also willing to lend a hand to support your young kingdom's cultural life, and let the artistic talents of the people flourish. So there should be one more companion we don't know about.
