Fun Fact

Fun fact: Chainsaws make a very distinctive wound, there's nothing quite like it.

Backstory: When I was just lad, I was felling a small tree, when I slipped at an unfortunate moment. Just as the blade had cut through the tree, my right foot slipped, and I took a proper tumble. The saw was still revving, and the blade touched my left leg slightly. There was no kickback, so the chain brake didn't trigger.

I was pants-off scared: I was alone in the forest, mobile phones had not been invented yet, and the nearest phone was on the mainland. I could see my jeans were torn above my left knee and turning red quickly. I rolled up the leg, and sure enough, there was a nice cut right above the knee. But I was relieved to see it didn't look too serious, so I stood up. I could move just fine, so I thought screw the saw, I'll try get to the cottage as fast as I can.

Back at the cottage I cleaned the wound, and realised it was riddled with cotton fibers from my jeans. I could also see the wound properly for the first time: it was like a trench, the width of the chainsaw blade, and about 1cm/0.4inches deep and 10cm/4inches long. It was the nastiest wound I'd ever seen, the flesh was all torn and kind of zigzagged. Using tweezers, I pulled out the cotton fibers and closed the wound the best I could. After I realized the bleeding had stopped, the aftershock hit me, and I just laughed.

Aftermath: The wound healed just fine and didn't get infected. Better still, I now had a very cool scar to impress the ladies with.
