The Dread Wolf RisesDragon Age Day 2023 Happy DA Day to our friends across Thedas! [Mark] Dragon Age has always been a franchise about characters. Characters to fall in love with or to learn to loath. Those characters need a place in which to live, to fight, and to love—a place that shapes them and the events they find themselves swept up in. Today we explore the place they call home that forms the stage for everything that you do: Thedas. Corinne and the Dragon Age: Dreadwolf team have created a game that celebrates the rich and varied past of the franchise while crafting new experiences and stories. It has been incredible to come back to BioWare and see all of the progress they’ve made, and I’m excited for some of that world to be shared with all of you today. [Corinne] Thank you, Mark! I fondly remember playing each entry in the Dragon Age franchise, being completely immersed and enamored in the world you all had built. It amazes me to be here now, working alongside you and the team, to bring new stories and characters (not to mention a few returning characters) to all of the fans of the franchise. Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is the product of hard work and love. We know how much this world means to all of you, how these experiences stay with you. We want to get it right, so we’ve taken our time. We're so excited to join in this celebration of all things Dragon Age and the incredible fandom that surrounds it. Within the dev team, we’ve been eagerly awaiting Dragon Age Day as the enthusiasm, stories, charity, and artwork you share motivates us to be our best and create new experiences for all of you. To celebrate DA Day, we’re sharing a look at a few of the in-game locations you’ll explore on this new adventure (and perhaps a little more for those who listen closely). The stage is set. The Dread Wolf is ready to make his move. Oh, and one last thing before I go… In summer 2024, we’ll be fully revealing Dragon Age: Dreadwolf to you! We honestly can’t wait. See you all in Thedas, — Corinne Busche, Game Director & Mark Darrah, Sr Production Advisor You’ve visited the lands of Thedas thrice before in our games and many more times in comics, books, art, and short stories. This time, you’ll be venturing to places unseen and returning to places from long ago. To celebrate Dragon Age Day, we wanted to show you some of those sights. We stand on the precipice of change. This is a world brimming with stories and characters waiting to meet you. The fate of this world teeters on the edge of a knife. In past games, you only got to see a slice of the world. In Origins, it was Ferelden—a land ravaged by war and Dark Spawn. In II, it was Kirkwall and its locales—festering with corruption and a dark underworld. And in Inquisition, you ventured across much of Orlais—facing down political intrigue as often as combat. This time, however, much more of Thedas is yours to see. The desolate, beautiful badlands of the Anderfels with curtains of distant mountainous spires. The twisting canals and gleaming towers of Antiva, where Crows may lurk in any shadow. The turquoise seas of Rivain with its rushes of greenery and hardy sea-faring people. And of course, there’s more. We felt this was best for the tale we wanted to tell this time and we hope you enjoy it as much as we have! It’s allowed us to create many more locations than past games, including both some you’ve longed to go to…and some you’ve never heard of before! To help capture the wonders of Thedas, we partnered with three wonderful artists from our exceptionally talented community and gave them an early look at what you’ve now seen. We’ve always been so fortunate to have such an incredibly skilled community of artists, and getting to work with these three was a true joy! We asked each of them to create a vista of one of the three regions in the video based on their interpretation of it in their own unique styles. Please enjoy their wonderful work, and be sure to send them some love when you check out their personal channels for more of their art! Rivain by Gabriela Isache — Twitter | Instagram | Tumblr Upon eastern shores and sunkissed sands, the Lords of Fortune no longer hold dominion over the coasts of Rivain—not when dragons are growing bolder and laying waste to their ships. Antiva by Nipuni — Twitter | Instagram Ever the pinnacle of mystery and intrigue, the Crows watch from the deep shadows of beautiful Antiva. Something, however, is amiss, and they are set on uncovering the source. Anderfels by Solelle — Twitter | Instagram | Tumblr To the far west, three Grey Wardens patrol the Anderfels. Tremors have been creating disturbances of late. Their cause is unknown. Upon the distant horizon, a storm of ominous intent brews and darkens the skies. May the Dread Wolf take you. An insult that he took as a badge of pride. An insult to inspire hope in his friends and fear in his enemies. That is what Fen’Harel, the Dread Wolf, truly is. Not a man who sees himself as evil, but someone who believes he’s fighting for a good cause and is willing to get his hands dirty. This long-awaited chapter of Dragon Age is fast approaching—the time is close at hand. We’ll see you next summer with answers to your questions, including ones you have yet to ask. With that will come our full reveal including new trailers, gameplay, and—of course—the long-awaited release date. The Dread Wolf will rise once more and we’ll have much more to share with you as we approach Summer 2024. Please keep an eye on our social channels for all the latest information on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s reveal and beyond. Know this, though: The Dread Wolf has not been idle these past years. His reach is far, and soon his plans will come to fruition—a cataclysmic rejoining of magic and realms hundreds of years in the making. Will you be able to stop him? We hope so. Always believing in you, —The Dragon Age Team

Inquisitor? Pleaseeee and just like that I'm back on the hype train Only if as a playable protagonist please. If a NPC we can’t control, keep them out of this completely(other than a note that they rescued Josephine and her family and they’re safe in the south please).

I'm a sucker for any cameo. Though having the chance to control my Inq is vastly preferable!

Inquisitor? Pleaseeee and just like that I'm back on the hype train No they can´t get an Inquisitior NPC right and in DAD we would play as one else "who has no magic hand" Antiva: Absolute must Josephine and if alive Zevran. It´s about the crows so Zevran has to show up. Rivain: Isabela of course Anderfels / Weisshaupt: Nathaniel would be nice. I don´t need Blackwall or Oghren. Tevinter: Dorian and Calpernia (yes even all this years i hope that she more than a NPC. She like Harding could a companion and romance)

Technically, Inq also does not have a magic arm nowadays You are aware that this isn´t the full quote. "It´s time for a new hero. no magic hand. no ancient prophecy. the kind of person they´ll never see coming.
The Inquistior is not longer a nobody in Thedas. He or she is the in Top 10 of the most important people in Thedas. So yeah not playable. By the way can´t not just give up after all this years? Every DA game has a new hero. This isn´t Mass Effect with Shepard as returning protagonist.

Sorry but we are going to Antiva and its only fair to assume that we met her in Antiva. Also unlike Zevran who could be writen out (some adventures somewhere else) Josephine is no quantum character and works for all possible world states. Yeah Bioware will bring her back.

Varric He is atleast in the top 3 on their killing of list.
By the way i really hope that they won´t do this with Cullen. Yes Greg Ellis is crazy and will never work for Bioware and EA again but the english!!! voice actor is not everything what makes Cullen Cullen.

Ou joy. Cannot wait to see how they absolutely bastardize my favorite video game character. Welcome to how fans of Anders in Origins felt when they played DA:2 You mean Awakening and DA 2 Anders is no just DAA Anders. It´s DAA Anders plus Justice / Vengeance the latter became more and more dominant of the two.
Arl Teagan sucks way more than DA 2 Anders & Justice. Complete different character and of course he will be back in Dreadwolf because Bioware hates me and the other DAO Teagan fans.

I'd be almost surprised if we don't meet the Inquisitor, at this rate. Sorry Hanako, I guess. But I wouldn't predict anything like they're a companion, and I'm not even sure if I think they'll be an 'Advisor' or similar. Might be bigger than Hawke in DAI though. And I even think they might bring back Hawke in some form or else do it in a DA5. The Warden is a whole other matter - but Inquisitor feels almost inevitable to me. They could tone them based on your choices/patterns in DAI, and you can partially operate in significant connection to what remains of the Inquisition, their status influencing at least one major quest/line, and part of the ultimate fate of Solas. That's my default until more info comes .

I actually don't think the Inquisitor will make an appearance in the game. Firstly, Hawke cameo in Inquisition was easy to do because there was only two voices to choose from. No way they'll pay four different voice actors to voice a character who most likely isn't that relevant (heh) in the story the game is telling.
Secondly, it would be a first for BioWare to use the same protagonist in two DA games.
Thirdly, it is my personal hope the Inquisitor will not be in the new game. Give them a break already. I'd much prefer to play as Hawke if we must have a returning protag.

Four VAs is far from impossible, and yes I'd say DREAD WOLF is relevant to the Inquisitor on some level lol But I do not expect to play as them, yeah. Predictions shouldn't be based on our wishes.

I think it was Mark Darrah who mentioned that Kate Mulgrew got nixed as the voice of Flemeth as she became too expensive to hire. Alix Wilton-Regan has been working a lot after DA:I, not sure what her tariff might be, but I think she's going to be more expensive than she used to be. But yes, I think money will dictate some choices. Especially after the layoffs and the restructuring at EA and whatnot.

Ou joy. Cannot wait to see how they absolutely bastardize my favorite video game character. Huh. I've always thought of Josephine as a neutral character no one feels strongly about. What do you like about her? Many things. Simply put: Love her personality and how she’s just a genuinely good person. Love her being a pacifist and always wanting to solve problems without violence even in a world as violent as Thedas. Plus parts of her character and story helped me in real life with personal things.

Love her personality and how she’s just a genuinely good person. I know I have occasionally criticised her, like when she complained about how hard her family had to work to someone other than a human Inquisitor (who is also from a noble background) but, to be honest, that is more a fault of the writers in not thinking how it would come across to the listener (particularly if they had just lost their entire clan). I did find Josephine refreshing in her outlook, particularly as it had come from bitter experience of how violence is glorified in Thedas but the reality is so different. Also loved her romance and agreed with you that it was ridiculous that she of all people didn't have a wedding in Trespasser. Trust me I know. While he wasn’t my favorite I liked Awakening Anders and hate what they did with him. Same here. This is why I don't really like returning characters, whether the protagonist or companion, because they end up either changed almost beyond recognition or, like Varric, become just boring repetition. Then they make him Viscount of Kirkwall for no really valid reason but totally irresponsible towards his role. Why? Just leave him the wheeler dealer he always was. Anyway, whether they bring Josephine back is going to depend on many factors, including whether or not the Inquisitor is going to play any sort of part, particularly if you romanced her. It is inconceivable that the Inquisitor would not be with her and even more so if Antiva is under threat and Josephine is resident there. If they came up with the same lame reason they had to separate Hawke from Fenris, I think I would scream. However, whilst her parents still lived in Antiva, the rest of her family seemed based in Orlais or at sea. After all, she was under threat because of a feud in the past with a noble family from Orlais, not Antiva. So, whilst she is Antivan by birth, it doesn't automatic follow we have to see her in Antiva, particularly if our Hero is engaged in more clandestine, covert, underbelly of society activity. It would make sense that we are more likely to be assisting a member of the Crows rather than someone from noble, diplomatic circles and they have featured a lot in short stories and concept art, plus the latest teaser. I can't see Josephine wanting anything to do with the Crows, so unless they introduce her to provide an alternative path to working with them, I think she may only be referenced in passing, either in conversation or a codex.

Incidentally, it now seems confirmed that the majority of city concept art was related to Antiva, not Tevinter, with the exception of the floating building/neon lit night view. This increases my misgivings about the depiction of Minrathous in the game. Perhaps they are keeping it under wraps for a big reveal in the official trailer but the lack of images is worrying.
