However, all the people saying that ARPG's are the future and BioWare needs to change or update their combat system every game by taking out more and more skill trees and making it more and more action-y I will simply point out that Baldur's Gate 3, a turn-based top-down(ish) CRPG is STILL in the Top 20 most played and concurrent players on Steam almost a year after its release. There IS a market for that. One that BioWare abandoned and studios like Larian and OwlCat have taken up the banner of. You know that there are a fair number of people who hate the combat system in BG3. Personally, I found the combat to be the least enjoyable part of a pretty great game. When dealing with small number of enemies and even some of the boss fights it's challenging and fun, but when gets to large number of enemies 20+ it's just tedious and boring at best and at worst extremely stupid to the point where I want to throw my controller through the nearest window (especially in major battles like the siege of Moonrise Towers and The House of Grief). The camera during some battles especially where it flies so far out, that I can barely see anybody on the battlefield just flat sucks donkey dicks. Then I left wondering and thinking that I would've more fun and beaten these fights in DAI. The combat in BG3 was IMHO nowhere near as good as any of DA games (and I have issues with them) or even Final Fantasy VII Remake it's my least my favorite thing about it. I think that the D&D style combat does have its advantages, but it does have disadvantages as well.

For BG I'd be interested in the companions and RP, both look amazing, the combat does not.

I think Baldur's Gate III is overall a pretty great game, if at times an extremely frustrating game that is not for everybody even fans of RPGs.

Definitely a different strokes thing as I much prefer BG3 to any DA and I especially appreciate lots of enemies being involved, the more the merrier for me. Having said that I use m/kb and may find it more frustrating if I used a controller. That is above and beyond the extreme frustrations I have with controllers anyway.

People are saying there's an in-game pause. I might be back on the bandwagon!

I hated how every encounter in DA 2 felt like the Battle of the Bulge.

Only thing at this point I will be judging is the combat and party involvement/control. I don't want it to be Mass Effect with swords. ME's combat is fine for that series but it's not what I want in DA's combat, I like these 2 series feeling different in mechanic and gameplay presentation. I also prefer DA to ME in a lot more ways, so ME having an influence on and removing DA's uniqueness is not to my preference. I like controlling my party, I like telling them what ability to use and when from a large selection instead of 2 to 4 abilities, I like having a bird's eye view of the map and telling my party where to go even if my character can't see where I want the party members to go, and I also like not getting a Game Over screen if my character goes to 0 HP because the party members aren't controllable or having a window of a few seconds in which I pray that the party AI figures out I'm down and comes to help before the Game Over screen shows up. I hope none of this happens or, if some of it happens, I hope the gameplay they show will mediate with other stuff that I do prefer.
That said, I get the desire to homogenize. Since Bioware was downsized significantly over the past years (no more Montreal, Austin devs being reassigned to Edmonton, then Edmonton losing more devs due to layoffs), it makes sense to have the gameplay loop be consistent across multiple projects because it makes knowledge transfer and future improvements easier. I don't like it, but I get it.
