I think they're saving up Bobbie to once again tear shit up with Avasarala. As for the Rocinante, I guess I would be ok with Bull piloting the ship as well (is he an earther or a martian though?) but with him and Peaches now it feels like the Roci is a bit too crowded for me ! I used to love how the entire gig was just the four of them: a little skeleton crew with a war machine on their hands ! Then again every character has been great so far, so no worries there. Can anyone, however, explain to me what the hell happened at the end of this season ? I have my own interpretation but I could do with some thoughts. The Roci certainly seems a bit "weird" with all those "foreign" crew members on board but this was also the case at that point in the books and that was an intended effect for sure. In the books, it's a whole thing as to how Holden - despite the fact that the new crew is perfectly ok and does their job well - is constantly a little annoyed that it's not just Amos, Naomi, ALex and him. As for Peaches, if they manage to do it half as well as the books did, she's gonna be awesome.
As for the ending, well, at this point, all we know is that something weird happened as that last ship from the martian renegade faction went through the Lakonia ring. Apparently the ship disappeared and something that looked very similar to what Elvi Okoya experienced when she went through the alien "bullet" happened. Without spoiling anything, why it happened or what exactly it was that happened, we don't know but the fact that it did happen will be very important in the next season.
As for who these people were and why they went through that gate and what's going on with them, I guess this was all a little rushed in the show. In the book, the martian side of things is a little more fleshed out (in fact, Alex and Bobby have the Martian Prime Minister on board the Razorback for quite some time)/ But that would all be basically unimportant until they do seasons/books 7-9. That's why both dazk and me think they must plan something there after all. Otherwise, it would have been much more convenient to just not tease that entire setup in the Lakonia system at all.

One of my favorite scenes from the last episode happened when Amos took Peaches by the hand and Holden had the greatest confused look since "Naomi's my sister but I would fuck her" I do remember those martians. One was deffinitely the guy Bobbie suspected as the ringleader and his cronie was trying to mine info from Alex back at the bar. On a more open ended, philosophical note, I am fascinated by the possible plans and motivations of the renegade martian crew. At this point, what do those guys believe in ? What do they want ? Are they even martians anymore if they make plans to settle somewhere else ? Assuming that's what they're trying to do; some people are not as obvious as Marco Inaros !

IMO, you do have a good sense of direction with your Martian questions. If I'd be you, I'd rewatch the scene after the party/ring battle and just before the credits roll once more

If reddit is to be believed, one of the reasons it was weekly drops vs all at once were the final episode edits of removing Alex from the party at the end, changing Avasaralas "condolences" talk with Bobbie (her movements don't match her voice) and possibly the Crew back together at the Roci reshots. There were pictures (now removed) of him welcoming back Amos/Naomi and at the party on the Amazon bonus content page/app or whatever. I'm ok with Bull becoming the new Pilot, would have liked it to be Bobbie though. Hope she's much more involved next season. IMO, going by the comics and a brief summary of her book stuff, a lot of Martian storylines were unfortunately cut/reduced this season. Would be neat to get more of the reporters view or snippets of her videos/texts as well from a viewing perspective. I am kind of NOT OK with Bull joining the crew or being the pilot. They wrote his character out of Series 3 when IMO there was no need and gave his role in pieces to Drummer who herself took the role of Michio Pa and Bull was one of my favourite non Roci characters in that book. They seem to have changed his personality too IIRC. I would much rather have Bobbie be the pilot. They cut so much stuff from all the crews story arcs and I just do not know why they did not make more episodes to flesh it out more except that it was cost cutting. Started re-watching the series again last night and finished three episodes, it is good watching it again there are already parts I had forgotten.

Damn all this talk about the strange events at the end of the last episode and the Martian Navy ships going through the ring gate and I have to stay silent. That is just so not in my nature!!!!!

Started re-watching the series again last night and finished three episodes, it is good watching it again there are already parts I had forgotten. Well, I'd have a problem with Bobby being the pilot tbh. It's been established that she's a marine, not a pilot. Maybe she can technically fly the ship from A to B in a pinch but she shouldn't be able to pull off combat maneuvers like Alex does (especially with what's coming int he next season). It would IMO completely negate Alex's skills and the fact that flying the Roci isn't just something anyone can do.
Bull's character may be completely different from the books but at least that would give them some freedom to write him in with the background of a trained pilot if needed. It's not great but IMO it would be better than Bobby magically becoming a super pilot all of a sudden. Ideally, I'd get someone new into the pilot's chair now anyway but I doubt they'll do it.
I am actually a bit afraid they might even think about using Clarissa. Apparently she can fly at least that suborbital transport that got them to the moon but again, flying a combat frigate like the Roci should be a different affair and I like how she doesn't have a big role on the ship in the books and remains Amos' assistant for most of the time there (further justifying the prolonged tension with Holden who must be wondering constantly why he even allows her to stay on the ship anyway). So I hope they don't shove her into the pilot seat but on a very superficial glance, it might make sense.
Then again, apart from the issue with Alex (which really wasn't their fault), I think the writers of the show mostly did an excellent job, so I'll trust that they'll come up with something decent at least. It will have to be a compromise when compared to the books but, well, we'll have to get over it.

Yeah I see your point and I was thinking whilst eating lunch that it'd be a big jump to put her in the pilot's chair. I think she operated the guns at one stage but that to pilot is a big leap but I also always felt she was under used in the books. The fact they reinstated Bull into the story I think that's who will get it and he will be given a background that makes it realistic. I would be very disappointed if they tamper with Clarissa's story, I really like it. It's a shame we didn't get more time with her and Amos as they traveled to Baltimore.

AnDromedary so I watched more of The Expanse season 5 last night and in the episode where The Rocinante goes after the ship that was involved in the theft of the protomolecule (the Yemez?) Holden asks "which one is the pilot" to Bull. He says you are looking at him and tells Holden he has experience as a Drop Ship Pilot or something like that to which Holden makes an incredulous response of something like "well there is a hell of a difference between flying a drop ship to a Naval Frigate". Bull makes a comment like I have got this. So maybe he is only a little ahead of Bobbie but he at least has piloting skills.

So spoilers ahead if you haven't read book 5 or watched Series 5 Article about crew changes on the Rocinante Plus an article about a a character Drummer subsumed in the TV show and her minor appearance in Drummer's crew. I didn't pick up that the character was her but it was a nice touch now I know of it but not how I had imagined her in the book.

Ugh just read an article on some blog site called Lawyers Guns & Money which apparently is also a Warren Zevon song (enough said) about the The Expanse. The writer says they kind of enjoy the show but find it easy to put down so am I surprised they make incorrect assertions and completely lis-interpret whole parts of the show????? The reason for the article wa to say they enjoyed season 5 more than any of the others and are glad that the Proto Molecule has been destroyed (someone isn't paying attention) and that now that that is done the show has a chance for being better in subsequent seasons. The author also didn't understand why Mars would stop being terra formed because like you know Illus is illustrative of every other planet beyond the ring gate. They also didn't understand why a Martian Splinter group gave helped Marco and left Mars. To top it off they said they couldn't understand the point of Holden's character at all. I would have commented on the site but it wanted me to register and I really couldn't be bothered putting in the effort. What was surprising was some people who commented had read the books and didn't correct the authors mistakes etc. or provide her with answers to her obvious misinterpretations etc.

That's why I am so glad that Ty Franck still seems to be heavily involved in the show. I think ti's very likely that the involvement of one of the original book authors is the main reason this show has been staying on track this long. I don't think I know another book adaptation that stayed so colse to the source material and maintained this level of quality for this long and I am sure Ty Franck is the major factor three. Hope he'll stay on till the end.

Frack. Alex died. nooo...
The end is nigh for Marco. For everyone but I hope Marco and his followers die a horrible death, knowing they're getting eaten by alien entities.
That said, I'm wondering how the alien entities that ended the Ring Builders would be handled.
I was going; s***, when the crew and the Barkeith disappeared. That's the same exact feeling I got when I watched Babylon 5 and the Shadows were revealed; bloody h***, how are they going to stop them?
Well there'll be a S6 and it won't be a conclusion, according to the authors. I hope at least Marco and Co get their dues and the series sort of pause on the fight against the aliens.

Obsidian Gryphon as AnDromedary said don't want to spoiler anything but you will definitely enjoy it, the authors handle the closure of that story arc really well. It's intense, painful for a certain character and I don't mean physically and I found it hugely pleasing.

I am always amazed how many thoughts have to go into every aspect of this show (and probably a lot of tv shows and film in general). Case in point: Lighting a set:

Case in point: Lighting a set: Thanks for sharing I got half way through the video but didn't have time to watch it all but man they needed a sound guy to do the audio for the clip. My son wants to do this stuff and works for an AV company so thanks again for sharing as he'll be keen to see this as he watches the expanse with me.

Started the 5th and final (aired) Season..... Was shocked to read an article about Cas Anvar's firing from the show and how/why his character was written out, though I totally understand why it had to happen.... and I am unsure how I feel about the final scene involving Naomi.....Though I know there is going to be a Sixth and Final season airing soon on Amazon Prime and that it appears as though Noami has survived being 'spaced'...and that "Bad Ass" Bobbie Draper (my favourite Martian, pun intended) came to her rescue....so I am excited to see what Season Six has in store.
Would be very interested in read the series of novels that this show is based on. Though I'm not sure I'd be able to stick with a series of novels that is 9 or 10 books long....each of them probably close to 1000 pages each. We'll see....

I just checked a few of the books and they are all about 500 to 600 pages long depending on the font size. Honestly you'll breeze through them and they are better than the TV series IMO.
