Episode 3 was pretty good! Holden is such a moral guy. He should have killed Inaros but of course he couldn't kill Naomi's brat. Ugh. Dumbass. Was a really cool sequence though. I'm not usually much excited about space battles but this one was done very well.
I hope Filip kills his father soon. I want him to have redemption. He knows his father is a ruthless psycho. And it seems to bother him. Time to end his reign of terror.
Not sure what happened on Ceres there with the explosions...
Hey Pax, never thought he'd be back! I liked the guy. I miss the goodness of the season he was in!
Right now the most intriguing thing for me is what's going on with the little girl and that alien dog who can bring the dead back to life!!!! That's some mind boggling stuff! So the brother will be brought back too?? I can't watch the extra x-ray scenes either on my TV. I can't be bothered to download the Prime app on my friggin phone for this. What a shit feature. I keep forgetting to watch the X-Ray things, apparently they are a small focus on a particular character that fits in with the episode they feature in. Not particularly worried about watching them anyway. Re your spoiler re the dogs and it is a major spoilerit's a bit of an unknown as all this stuff happens in books 7, 8 and 9 so in a slightly different context, so hard to tell (for me anyway) where they are going with it in the series but the dogs (repair drones) do "repair" Xan (the boy) and he and the sister are a key part of the last three books.

So just watched the three X-Ray mini-episodes. They are all between 5 and 6 minutes and were surprisingly good and lend some depth and a bit of context to the character they focus on in regards to the episode they relate to. Drummer is the first one, Avasarala is the second and Bobbie/Amos is the third. Not sure why they could not have included it in the relevant episodes TBH. I liked the Drummer, Avasarala ones best they were just neat little pieces that show personal sides to the two characters. The third one seemed to be a scene from the books but a different take on it where Bobbie and Amos have a fight to prove who is toughest. I can't remember the specific context of it in the books but the result in the X-Ray is very different and I seem to remember it being more personal and something Amos needed to happen. This felt trivial in some way and even though there was a loser it was more a draw and the outcome seemed to make no difference as there seemed to me a lack of context that mattered. I seem to remember the brutality of Bobbie's beat down on Amos and the beating she took was significant but I cannot remember the exact context.

Wouldn't it be funny if Holden acted more like Renegade Cmdr Shepard? I can see the scene playing out now: Holden, Bobbie and Amos board Ceres Station on a mission to find Innaros and they shoot up the station leaving one last Belter to talk to. "I'm looking for your leader. Marco Innaros. You're going to tell me where he is." "I ain't tellin' you shit, Beltaswala" "Damn it, tell me! Marco Innaros. WHERE. IS. HE?" "I've got nothing more to say to you--" *Holden [chooses the Renegade Interrupt] abruptly cuts off the Belter in mid-sentence, pushing him out the air-lock before he can finish speaking* "How about 'good-bye' ?" Holden watches for a brief moment, then turns to leave. Amos and Bobbie following. [END SCENE] That sounds more like Amos Oh, definitely....as the characters are written, I can totally see Amos doing/being the Renegade Shepard role. He takes risks, does things that others won't or are afraid to do. Yeah.

I really hope the currently amazon (and somewhat platform specific) exclusive X-Ray "Bonus scenes" will be fully available on all platforms, digital and physical releases going forward. Haven't found them yet elsewhere. @kappa Neko I have the same thoughts regarding the whole "strange dogs" and where that seems to be going.

I can't remember the specific context of it in the books basically, Amos was depressed and he wanted to LOSE a fight and get his ass kicked, and so Bobbie was the only option as the only person who actually could beat Amos in a fight.. afterwards Bobbie makes a comment to the effect of "next time you want to pick a fight, there are other people you could have one with" and Amos replies something like, "no, if I want to LOSE a fight, its down to just you"

6.03: And there it was. the adaptation of the best description of a space battle I have ever read. If I have one complaint, it's that it was over almost too quickly. In the book, it was all dragged out a little longer, they needed multiple tries to figure out the dodge pattern of the Pella and of course, it was Alex and Bobbie who did most of it together. But of course, they needed to streamline that a little for the show and I really have to applaud them for getting the general idea across perfectly. Well done. Also, I don't quite remember how exactly it was in the book. I don't recall them having a chance to kill the Pella at all, though they just retreated immediately (not sure though). But here, I am very glad it was Holden who disarmed the torpedo and not Naomi. That would have been too much. Banter between Bobbie and Amos remains priceless. Also nice to see how they slowly figure out how the "going Dutchman" works. It's good how they weave that into the early episodes. Curious ending. I don't remember the Free Navy receiving anything from Laconia in the books. Is that a new addition? Same with those explosions on Ceres. Don't remember that either. Hm, either they did put quite a few additions in or my memory of a book I read less than 2 years ago is really bad. While I thought Anna was by far the weakest character in season 3, it was a nice callback to see her again in Monica's report. Also ... Prax! Another great episode all in all. 3 down, 3 to go.

Yeah that space battle was great in the book. They definitely had the chance to take out the Pella and Holden only does it because Marcos opens a comm and lets him see Fillip on the Pella and that's why he disarms the missile. EDIT: AnDromedary I was thinking about this later and I think Amos calls Holden out on it or someone does as they go through the logs and see it was manually disarmed by Holden. Wonder if they'll show that. Yeah that part of receiving something through the gate confused me too but it seemed vaguely familiar. Like you I am struggling memory wise with the books and I only read it about the same time ago as you. Is it possible it was in a Novella? Speculation I have seen is that it is the last rail gun fitting for the sphere in side the slow zone which maybe makes sense if the Belters/Free Navy are in control of Medina. Doesn't Bobby have to do a mission later on with the belters to disable the rail guns on the Sphere or is that earlier on I can't remember. I read the writers had a much bigger role for Prax but they needed to curtail the size of the books. I thought Anna started out great but her story arc got tiresome and was hampered in the show by the changes re Tilly etc. in series 3.

"It's made from Mars, Honeybuns," Bobbie replies. (love that line). But I don't remember the two of them getting into a fight......

And it was totally just Amos being a dick and getting in her face until Bobbie got mad enough to fight him, because Amos wanted to get his ass kicked since violence is the only way he knows how to work through his mental/emotional demons. And then afterwards they're just fine, as if nothing happened, because that's just Bobbie and Amos I guess.

But the last series I bought multiple books (and was horribly disappointed in and totally bored with) was The Sword of Truth series, which was utterly horrible. So I'm a bit apprehensive about buying numerous books from an author I know little of. I'll keep that in mind though!

In the show it is accessible as a separate "X-Ray" 5 minute episode if you have the Amazon App. When watching the show in the menu's "X-Ray" comes up as an option and for every episode there is a single one that gives some insight into a particular character (or two) relative to that episode. You can also watch them via the app on your phone. The first one was about Drummer and two of her crew, the second one was about Avasarala and the thrid was about Amos and Bobbie.

Just finished Season 3.
Liked:
- writing Drummer into Bull's role (made the story more compact) - the Ring Gate, the Slow Zone, and the alien station all looked visually amazing - Thomas Jane as Miller is still awesome - not as much fluff/extraneous personal drama/etc as seasons 1 and 2 - Ashford was a much more interesting character than in the books - show continues to be well-cast in general
Disliked:
- I really liked the Ashford mutiny storyline in the book so I wasn't crazy about how much they trimmed it down for the show - thought it was kind of dumb that Clarissa's adrenal enhancements (or whatever they are) allowed her to fly/do Matrix moves (this doesn't make any sense) - Diego stealing Bobbie's power armor: Martian marines have to train to be able to use it, and yet he has no trouble using it with no prior knowledge, training, or experience (just completely unnecessary)... I also don't like how they've made him into this generic OPA/Belter goon in all these subplots ever since his and Miller's friendship in seasons 1 and 2, sort of degrades/undermines his friendship with Miller since he's ended up being such a shithead ever since then - show version of Tilly Fagan was uninteresting and poorly written imo
excited to go to Ilus for Season 4, and hopefully much more Holden + Miller shenanigans

Bull was a great character and I hated that they merged him, Drummer and Michio Pa into just Drummer. I hated further how they brought him back into the series to replace Alex and made him a white racist when Bull was an African American IIRC and was wholly supportive of Fred's push to help the belters and would never have referred as them as "Skinnies". Tilly was good in the books and provided a nice foil for Anna and I hated how they just killed her off in the show as she is important later on as to how The Rocinante outright becomes the property of the crew among other things. That said season 3 is probably the best season. MAJOR SPOILERS re Season 4's Adaptation of the book Book 4 was one of my favourites however season 4 was terribly adapted IMO opinion and changes + cutting of story arc's, removal of a good character and the change to Naomi's story in book 4 just really stuffed it up for me. Easily the worst of the TV series as far as I am concerned.

Easily the worst of the TV series as far as I am concerned. Yeah I did like Bull in the books (as well as Pa), and the whole Pa/Bull/Ashford triangle with the mutiny storyline was really good, but condensing multiple characters is exactly the sort of change they often have to make in TV/film adaptations so I was OK with them merging those into an existing character so the only new character they had to introduce was Ashford. I thought the end result captured the gist of the story pretty well. But Tilly was a good and colorful character and I feel like they really did her dirty in the show. And that's too bad about bringing Bull in later as a white racist (though iirc he was Mexican in the books, his full name was Carlos de Baca and I think he was from either Mexico or New Mexico), since his main role is in the Slow Zone drama in Abaddon's Gate so it seems sort of pointless to include him in the show after they wrote him out of his actual plotline... but I guess I better reserve judgment until I get to that part myself.

Naomi/Dominique Tipper changed her hair in season 4 Personally, I like it shorter, though it does make her look less "Belter"

I noticed the change in her hairstyle too; I wasn't sure I liked it....But over the seasons it grew on me though I wouldn't know anything from the books about 'looking like a Belter" aside from most (like Marco) having long hair.

I don't remember if that was actually a thing, but I just liked the way her hair looked in seasons 1-3.. Idk what to even call it, but that little poofy bun or whatever on top, I liked that.

Finished Season 4
Liked:
- the Ilus story was really well done imo - more Thomas Jane always good - Burn Gorman as Murty was a great casting choice - the alien ruins looked awesome
Disliked:
- the whole Bobbie and Avasarala side plots; neither character had anything going on during this part of the books, but evidently the showrunners felt like they had to invent wholecloth some new side-plots for these two rather than just having them sit this season out... and the result wasn't great, imo
