Is Davrin voiced by Javik voice actor? I remember liking Javik quite a bit, but he had a deep no bullshit voice.

I hope his voice for Darvin is differnt from Jarvik. That style is suit Jarvik but not Darvin (at least for my personal taste).

I hope his voice for Darvin is differnt from Jarvik. Listen to his extract on the Behind the Scenes video from 2020. He will probably always have a fairly deep tone but I didn't recognise him as Javik from that clip (although it had been some years since I played ME3).

The voice acting for Javik was stellar and he was an S-class character. Davrin also has a baby griffin, is not 80, or some manic pixie, so hopefully the writing is good and he'll probably be one of the better characters imo.

I know some sci-fi writers talk about having some difficulty making the switch to fantasy and vise-versa(even if it's all technically fantasy in the same way). I wonder if the switch between genres was smooth for him or not.

I wonder if the switch between genres was smooth for him or not. All I know is that he won me over with that short exert from the Behind the Scenes video in 2020 and I was looking forward to meeting Davrin. I didn't even realise he was the same VA as Javik then. A good VA shouldn't have too much trouble with the transition if they are really invested in their character and take the trouble to research the setting. I think he should be fine.

Oh no… I had a good idea of which romance I’d go for, but I’m not sure anymore. I adore Garrus, probably my favorite romance of all games I’ve played. This is going to be a tough choice.

I find it funny how traumatized people were from how Wyll in BG3 was treated and they're already being super defensive about Davrin.

He doesn't get a lot of love from the fanbase, and a lot of people ignore him or call him boring. He was rewritten at the last second and you can tell. I imagine they did this to make him more likable even though I thought he was pretty interesting as he was in EA. His story is underdeveloped and he's buggy as hell. I think he's receiving a lot of updates in Patch 7 so that should help. More egregiously, he's been a target of modders who make him white and such. Anyway I'm not as worried about Davrin. BioWare doesn't go out of their way to mellow their characters and play them super safe like Larian does, and there's no indication that he's going to be underdeveloped, especially with how much they have emphasized companions in DAVG.

Wynne was one of the best companions in Origins, even if everyone in that game is a lying liar and she's only 49. They still wrote her as the older, wiser companion with more life experience than everyone else.

Nothing is wrong with being old and I didn't say there was, but I'm not attracted to people in 70s or 80s age ranges. Age also has nothing to do with good or bad writing though, nor did I say as such either, what I said was "hopefully the writing is good and he'll probably be one of the better characters (in my opinion)". I'll hard disagree with you on Wynne too, she was nosy and self righteous for me. Different opinions and all that jazz.

I find it funny how traumatized people were from how Wyll in BG3 was treated and they're already being super defensive about Davrin. How was Wyll treated? Genuine question. Oh man, this is a sore topic for me. So I've been playing BG3 since early access, and was privy to Wyll's personality before they turned him into a pod person. In his original conception, he was much more grounded in his writing, his backstory bound initially to the goblins, and also much more theatrical and humorous in how he was played. (I know, Wyll, funny, can you imagine? I certainly couldn't have if I'd never played early access.) He was also more obviously a hypocrite, his relationship to Mizora more fleshed out before that was dumpstered for a connection with Karlach in which they don't interact for 80% of the game before deciding to run off into the hells together. Fast forward to the rewrite, now he's this tragic hero who fought Tiamat and is the son of a Grand Duke, his personality replaced with epic cool connections to random bits of lore in the Forgotten Realms. And, because it's a re-write, he has far fewer lines than anyone else in the game by a significant margin. I had been planning on romancing him in my main run and was so disappointed by the changes that I shifted to Shadowheart and never looked back.
But the most frustrating part of all of this is that they cited the reason for the re-write was because people weren't using Wyll. Wyll, in early access, was very easy to miss, and could even die in one of the opening fights without you ever realizing he could be a companion. He also isn't conventionally attractive in the same way as the other characters, given he's heavily scarred and missing an eye. A lot of his issues could have easily been fixed if he just walked up and introduced himself to Tav like Shadowheart does if you haven't found her until the Grove.
And yes, there are also mods that turn Wyll white and other gross things like that.

Given your first sentence was about age and being a manic pixie (although I don't think that term means what you think it means), followed by the comment about good writing, I was under the impression they were connected. Apologies.
Self righteousness is one of Wynne's flaws though, surely she would be a worse character without it. And you can talk to her later about her nosiness and she apologizes, in fact in most instances where she disagrees you can convince her otherwise. But sure, agree to disagree.
