I've been having some more thoughts about Lucanis being socially awkward. I was re-reading the end of Eight Little Talons, where Viago says to Teia that Caterina will likely call back Lucanis to destroy Emil's House/family for her personally. Then then both shiver, so that is apparently the affect Lucanis has on a couple of high ranking Talons. It makes me think that this is all he is known for, dealing vengeance on behalf of Caterina. So apart from his cousin, when other Crows see Lucanis enter a room they are likely thinking "has he come for me?" Viago was uptight enough with Teia but she doesn't have that sort of reputation. So other Crows are likely to be wary, cold and distant with him as a result, which would only add to his feelings of social isolation. No wonder he says: "Death is my calling." He has been molded into a killing machine and doesn't see himself as anything else. It is probably why Caterina favoured him over Illario because she saw him as her perfect creation. I imagine that it will be quite a novel experience for him if he doesn't automatically get that reaction from the team. Even so, looking at some of the screen shots with him out in the field he does seem to hang back slightly, glancing backwards, on the alert in the one with qunari Rook, as though he is still in the mindset that he has to look out for himself rather than he is part of a team. The other one I've seen with the giant hands in Arlathan Forest, Rook and Harding are close together, probably even discussing the hands, but Lucanis is some way behind them. This could partly be to keep a watch but may also reflect that he is more comfortable that way, walking slightly removed and alone.

I wonder if we will be forced to always take 2 companions with us or if we can go solo or only have 1 for some trips. I really liked being able to just take Dorian for his personal quest. Nobody else needed to be there for it.

Nobody else needed to be there for it. I can't remember now if I deliberately took just Dorian or some else too but they didn't appear in the cut scene. I'm pretty sure it was only Dorian and me in the tavern with his father. I suppose a lot will depend on whether we can go somewhere familiar without the possibility of too much trouble or we always have to be on the alert for danger. If the fights are balanced for a party of three, I wouldn't want to risk failure by going out one short even if they did allow it.

He's starting to sound a little like Fenris tbh. A cross between Zevran and Fenris but without the latter's prejudice against mages I hope, just blood mages and that won't be a problem because we can't be one. I'm also hoping generally that the companions get along okay. Zevran was pretty okay with everyone and was actually quite comical in some of his exchanges with them but Fenris did get on my nerves occasionally and was downright cruel at times with Merrill, which meant I generally tried to keep them apart. Still, when Fenris finally admitted to loving my mage Hawke I found that deeply satisfying. I intend romancing Lucanis with a mage just for comparison and because I usually play a mage first run.

I think there was also the possibility of the quest bugging out if you took others so eventually I just went with 2. I also liked going off by myself to get all the collectibles for Cassandra's romance. I didn't particularly care for the romance after doing it, but other companions certainly didn't need to see the Inquisitor chasing after a lost poetry book.

I also liked going off by myself to get all the collectibles for Cassandra's romance. I did the same. I didn't need the others with me and they can be a gabby lot, particularly Cole, and Varric for that matter. Didn't want them spoiling my surprise. Also, I remember now about the bug in the Dorian quest. After a couple of failed attempts I came to the boards and was told to just take Dorian and it would run okay, which turned out to be correct, so every run after that I just went with the two of us.

Also, why does he have a very Tevinter sounding name if he is Antivan?
Lucanis Lycan Lycanthropy = werewolf. Which would be interesting

Also, why does he have a very Tevinter sounding name if he is Antivan? Lucanis Lycan Lycanthropy = werewolf. Which would be interesting Well, since we're bringing up things that sound somewhat similar to his name ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucaniaen.wikipedia.org/wiki/LucaniansAlso, the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the name "Lucanis" is... Luke. Or, rather, the Italian version of it. Which is "Luca" - and it means "light-bearer" ('la luce' is light in Italian, which derives from Roman lux/lucis) And if anyone asks "why would they call a Crow - someone who is heavily associated with shadows - a name related to "light?" I'd say: A. I could think of a few symbolic meanings... but also it would be kinda funny B. He'd hardly be the first dark character/entity that has a name that is opposite to something in their nature. After all... Lucifer means "light-bringer"

It's more Italian rooted with perhaps some Latin for flair. ex. "Lucanus" = a resident of Lucania (ancient), which is now southern Italy. Works for me.

And if anyone asks "why would they call a Crow - someone who is heavily associated with shadows - a name related to "light?" I'd say: There is certainly some irony there considering in the trailer Varric says about bringing some darkness into the light, so the opposite of what his name would suggest. However, now you have pointed it out, perhaps his naming was deliberate and the true irony is that we expect him to be dark because of his Crow connection and the whole assassin thing but ultimately he lives up to his name. Incidentally, it isn't just in Italian that Luke or Luca is associated with the light. In Irish mythology Lugh (their equivalent of Luke) was a solar deity associated with storms and lightning (shades of Elgar'nan the god of vengeance there). He was a member of the Tuatha de Danann (the people of the goddess Dana) and he was said to the grandson of the goddess. He is traditionally known as Lugh Samildanach (Skilled in all the arts, including magic but also poetry - please let that be true), had a magical sword (one of the four treasures of the Tuatha) and he was also known as the Lightbringer, which presumably is connected with the meaning of his first name, probably indicating a common linguistic root with Luke, Luca and Lucifer. Also just realised the whole Lucifer thing might be reflected in his purple wings, so he is a fallen angel (or if he does have some sort of demon associated with him perhaps it refers to them)

Ah, so I wasn't considering the Luca part of his name. Very interesting! So the dichotomy between light and dark could be a theme with him. Maybe that's why he has been described as a "disaster" by his writer. Perhaps there is a maelstrom of conflict and angst swirling beneath the surface of this handsome quiet man, ready to explode at any moment.

Crow or no crow. Doubtful though since he'll probably have a similar accent to Zevran. So far my Fenris bad romance PTSD is keeping me super wary and everything in my head is screaming STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY.

Perhaps there is a maelstrom of conflict and angst swirling beneath the surface of this handsome quiet man, ready to explode at any moment. Also, there may be this nature versus nurture thing going on. May be as a young child he was really sweet and kind but his grandmother trained it out of him with her brutal methods. Hence the fallen angel. There is also the fact that we know Caterina is his grandmother (or claims to be) but what about his parents? Why was she raising him? Did her child rebel against her and was executed as a result, so that is how he came into her care? Or was it the result of one of the other houses challenging her rule and the parents of Lucanis paid the price through being assassinated by them? Did Lucanis witness their death as a young child? I can understand that perhaps exposure to the world outside of Antiva may have caused him to want to escape the destiny Caterina had planned for him but why does he feel that "Death is my Calling"? Everything I've read about him just raises so many questions in my mind and makes me want to discover more. I will be happy just befriending him if that seems the better path to understanding and supporting him, so long as he ultimately reciprocates. Then if romance blossoms from that, all well and good. Just please don't let him be a betrayer.

He's an elf and I am a sucker normally for elves, which as you can imagine has landed me with plenty of problems in the past but Lucanis looks set to break the habit so it will be really ironic if the elf does turn out to be the good guy this time round and I am left in emotional shreds once more.

My coworker from Montreal says he sounds like a muppet tho so maybe I’m just a silly accent loving American I suppose it depends on which muppet they were talking about. Is there an Italian/Spanish sounding muppet? Surely they don't mean the Count? He's not Mediterranean. Do we have a muppet expert in the house?

Or do they mean a Muppet (Jim Henson's fancy puppets) or a muppet, which Oxford Dictionary describes as: an incompetent or foolish person. Well given they were talking about the sound of his voice, I assume it was the accent and thus the puppets. Unless they overheard a conversation where he was exhibiting his lack of social skills, which to my mind reflects more on the work colleague than it does on Lucanis. May be it is my years of experience working with socially awkward students but I am happy not to judge him negatively because he isn't perhaps as articulate as might be expected in social situations. Some of the puppets do have over exaggerated accents that are caricatures of natives of the countries they are meant to be from, so perhaps his VA isn't a native of Italy or Spain but is just trying to sound like they are. Or perhaps the work colleague is just a d**k.

Mary Kirby promised us a sexy Lucanis, who is also short-ish and has a mullet I feel it would have have to been the content of the conversation, otherwise the comparison doesn't make sense to me. On the other hand, maybe we will get it once we hear his VA.

I randomly hope that Rahul Kohli voices one of our companions. Dunno if he can do an Italian accent, he’s English, but I like that dude and he’s super, super talented. He can do anything. Certainly can pull off “muppet”-“dumpster fire”! lol
A couple/few years ago I saw that Rahul followed BioWare or Gamble or they followed each other (can’t remember), so I was like “Huh… interesting. Wonder is he’s involved in the next Mass Effect or Dragon Age…”. Now he’s not even on TT/X anymore, if I’m not mistaken. So, yeah. It’s kinda random but I think he’d make a great Lucanis! ^^
