Makes sense that Lucanis lives in the pantry...since he's a snack! Eyyyyy! 😎 I've been pondering about his extra passenger. I think I lack imagination but I can't think of an emotion or virtue that corresponds to you-know-what (I can't put in spoilers on my phone, sorry)
Maybe a spirit of benevolence ? kindness ?

I wonder if Hawke's comment about Justice being and unwilling participant will ring true in this case. How would that even work? Spite is witnessing everything Lucanis sees and has mean comments about everything too. And it seems that he is able to speak through Lucanis when he gets really agitated? I hope Spite can be exorcised/turned into a benevolent spirit or worst case merge with Lucanis somehow so they are not two separate entities anymore.
It seems every possession is different. Wynne and Cassandra were possessed by a Faith spirit but they were your average person (or at least acted away) with some crazy additional powers. Anders and Justice warped each other over time. Justice would also come out and speak through Anders when he would get upset or if they disagreed on something. I suppose Spite and Lucanis will interact in a similar manner except for the fact that Spite is much more malicious.

Re Lucanis' unique thing... (may as well put it in a spoiler box just in case) Is Zach Mendez doing Spite's voice too? Must have been fun doing 2 different characters/accents that are meant to be the same person.

Grace or forgiveness is another one. I really like forgiveness ! One thing I like about Lucanis/Spite is that they managed to give us both a new possession story but one that plays out differently. And the bonus is that it's not a mage again.

Oh, shite! More "The Exorcist" than "Casper The Friendly Ghost". Definitely scarier than Justice. But I'm into it, ngl. Wowza! I got the chance to watch this video.
One of the Rook options definitely come across as ruthless and utilitarian, so that should be reassuring for the crowd worried Rook can only be heroic. And it's also interesting that they're breaking psychic distance and letting us see Spite as Lucanis sees him, instead of what happened with Anders where we never see Justice outside the Fade. The only other DA game that does something like that is Origins, with the cuts to see what Loghain is doing early on.
And I really like how we have multiple companions involved in the scene, problem solving. It's a nice touch.

Mendez seems to be doing a lot in Veilguard so it seems likely, I think it was mentioned he voiced Warden Antoine but it wasn't certain if they'd keep his voice for that.

So, are we thinking that Magister Zara Renata is responsible for Lucanis' unique condition? His Excess Baggage™️ seems to be more hindrance than helpful and she did allude to his nickname The Demon in The Wigmaker Job when she was having ideas on dealing with Lucanis.

I'm gonna speculate that Lucanis condition is a side effect/punishment gone wrong. I think Zara wanted to just make him a full abomination to control, not different than what the Coripheus's agent did to the gray wardens in Inquisition. Either something went wrong with the ritual, or Lucanis was able to fight back (at least in part) the binding. Maybe a mix of being aware of the ritual done on him, and his magic sensitivity? I hope we don't get the Anders treatment anyway.

Couple of notes from the content event which I have seen and thus have now been made aware of...and really starting to like what I have seen of the character. During the Siege of Weishaupt and the Eluvian crashing down into the dirt Lucanis was like 'you call that being quiet'. Fairly typical line but Zach's line delivery was just terrific there and hilarious as hell.
I did actually see a clip of that one screen capture with Spite so I am picking up what Ice Quinn was putting down...Spite is actually manifesting inside his head. Nice.
Also seems gervaise was right we are recruting him inside Treviso after all. Also though our contact there is Teia.

Well… I bring thee some spoilers mixed with a healthy dose of speculation: Remember earlier in this thread, there was a bit of speculation linking Lucanis to an underwater location, because of some earlier concept art + some other stuff that I can’t really remember… I think I even talked about it a little myself, but whatever - well: in that scene in which I’m assuming is part of his personal quest, Lucanis talks about returning to a location called “the Ossuary” - because of something to do with Spite, clearly (he mentions walls and chains also, I have to rewatch).
In a different video, the reviewer talked about a beautiful underwater location called the Ossuary, though she didn’t want to spoil what we’re going there for.
I’m thinking we rescue-recruit Lucanis in this Ossuary place! 😱
Snippet of an interview with Matt Rhodes and Francois Chaput (Art Director and Level Design Director):
”That’s a little harder sometimes, but one example of that that you’ve seen in this demo is the Ossuary level. ‘What have we not done? We’ve not gone underwater.’ and ‘What else have we not done? We’ve not stopped ourselves from building the level’ So we just went for it and it was awesome, I’m really happy with how it turned out.”

Spoiler about Lucanis recruiting mission beware I believe the overall plot is Neve says she knows about a good assassin in Treviso. So you go there and learn that assassin been kidnapped a year ago. People thought he was dead. But grandma Crows knows better. He's held in the underwater prison where some mage is experimenting on demons and such. I think it was an ancient elven temple that sank. Either way you free Lucanis.

This is a real spoiler but I'll put in here anyway, so don't open if you really don't want to know but The OutsideXbox video I mentioned elsewhere does confirm we rescue Lucanis and that's a quest in the game.

Now that you mention, I remember the sunken elven temple in-game screenshot and a concept art of the Veilguard diving underwater, and both contained like a faint silhouette of a halla figure (IIRC?) in the background, and this being the Internet of course, people caught on that instantly! Oh, nice! Lucanis’ missions sound like they’re gonna be fun!

Big Spoiler beware It sounds like Lucanis might have been betrayed. If memory serves there was some shenanigans about who's going to be the next Crows Queen. And Lucanis was the next heir ? Probably someone sold him out. Reddit is betting on the cousin.

Also re reading Eight Little Talons right now so getting familiarized with how awesome that pair was.

It's really convenient, I agree, not having to dig through 150 different videos.
I think I'm right to choose Lucanis as my first romance even if I'm going to end up with a heart attack before the end Well, look at it this way, it can't possibly be worst than how Solas turned out could it? I'm torn personally. The sort of antics that Spite is pulling were exactly the reason I pulled back from Anders after his threat against Ella in DA2. I want to give Lucanis some love but that demon is definitely giving me some pause for thought. However, I suppose it depends on what aspects of the relationship Spite feeds on. It could end up a reprise of Fenris and him walking out on you straight after sex, because Spite is messing with his head. Thankfully, given the high stakes in Veilguard I don't think we will have to wait 2 years for a reconciliation. There is also just an outside chance that a supportive friend/lover Rook could actually turn the demon back into something more benign, like pity or empathy. After all Anders claimed it was his negative emotions that twisted Justice into Vengeance, so it would cool if by bringing out positive emotions in Lucanis this would change Spite back into a benign spirit.
